Assistant City Manager/Finance Director Corey Schmidt has accepted the position of City Manager in Marlette Michigan. Councilwoman Angie Settlel was asked if she would like to comment on Schmidt’s career change.

Corey Schmidt is one of the brightest young men I have ever worked with and known over the years. He has made a major impact on Loveland’s City Administration with his ability to quickly grasp issues and take initiative to solve them. His organizational and communication skills along with his congenial customer service personality served the City well. He came to Loveland as a Management Fellow and wore many “hats” over the years with his latest position being Assistant City Manager/Finance Director.
As a member of the Finance Committee we worked closely and Corey understood the importance of his role. He understood that Economic Development and Financial Stability go hand in hand. He developed a compliance strategy to make sure everyone knew their tax obligation and filed and paid their “fair share” toward city services. He identified cost savings and renegotiated contracts that would save the city money.

The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The City of Loveland, in addition, received the “Distinguished Budget Presentation Award” from the Government Finance Officers Association. This award reflects the commitment to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive this award, the City had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines. Only 13 municipalities received this award in the State of Ohio.
I cannot say enough about Corey. We are all sad that he is leaving the City. We wish him well and like to think that we had a small part in recognizing this talents and bringing out the best in Corey so that he could go on to bigger and better things!
