If you watched the Olympic swimmers this year, you probably could not help but notice the rings on Michael Phelp’s arms that were not the Olympic kind. Those rings were “kisses” from the cups used in cupping therapy.

Cupping has been used in Chinese and other foreign cultures for over 3000 years to treat many ailments. Its popularity in the United States did not start to grow until well know celebrities and athletes started to use it to help all kinds of conditions.

Cupping is done by placing cups over a specific area or pattern and using a vacuum to pull toxins and inflammation out of deep tissues.

[pull_quote_right]The circular patterns left by the cups are not bruises as commonly thought, instead, they are areas of toxins coming to the surface.[/pull_quote_right]Some of the conditions that are treated are low back pain, neck pain, joint pain, plantar fascitis, headaches, tendonitis, bursitis, fibromyalgia, muscle soreness,  and help in reducing scar tissue.

The circular patterns left by the cups are not bruises as commonly thought, instead, they are areas of toxins coming to the surface. The circles can remain a few hours or a few days. The cups are usually applied for up to 15 minutes and or used in a massaging fashion to help move blood flow and inflammation to and from an area. This therapy is considered safe and is often beneficial with the addition of other treatments such as Chiropractic care,Physical therapy, and Acupuncture.

It is important to find a certified person to use the treatment.  Our office now offers cupping therapy to help with the above conditions. If you would like more information or would like to set up an appointment to see if cupping therapy can help your condition, please call our office at (513) 677-6787.
