Ellen Mershon – Friends of Loveland Farmers Market

Frankly this almost seems like bullying

Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,

by Ellen Mershon

Interesting article (Councilwoman Pam Gross has questions for Loveland Farmers’ Market).

First let me say I appreciate Councilwoman Gross’s contribution to our community and I respect her opinion.

It is not surprising that Councilwoman Gross would comment in support of the initial decision concerning the Loveland Farmers’ Market. Nor is it surprising that she would deflect any innuendo concerning a political agenda; after all she is a member of council and part of the majority who presently appears to be voting with the mayor.

[quote_right]What is the point of Councilwoman Gross’s questions, could they possibly be to cast dispersions on the owners of the market because people are speaking up?[/quote_right]As far as misinformation, the Friends of Loveland Farmers Market (FoLFM) at no time has said there would not be a market; but rather FoLFM have advocated for a return to the market to where it was planned to be and where it thrived, at Jackson Street.

What I find of great interest is Councilwoman Gross’s list of questions concerning the market. Is this because she is an accountant (which it appears she assures us of)… Or is it because she and others within the city are being challenged?

[quote_right]Is it because she and others within the city are being challenged?[/quote_right] I cannot imagine there are financial improprieties concerning the market. After all the business model is not that complicated. Of course Councilwomen Gross would know that because she is after all, an accountant.

So the question becomes what is the point of Councilwoman Gross’s questions, could they possibly be to cast dispersions on the owners of the market because people are speaking up? Frankly (and I hate to use such strong words) this almost seems like bullying.

Interestingly in a recent poll conducted by Loveland Magazine, over 61% responded that they wanted the market to stay at Jackson St.

I’m wondering if there was any comment from Councilwoman Gross in that regard?

Thanks again Loveland Magazine for covering news within our community in an unbiased and impartial manner.

  1. The farmers market has a right to operate in downtown Loveland and NOT have to move their location elsewhere. Why not move Paxtons? Or the fire department? Sounds silly, doesn’t it…so does moving the farmers market. And I sure there are probably no tax issues with them or Loveland would be all over that! This is a wholesome hometown business FOR ALL OF THE PEOPLE! Leave them alone, for crying out loud! What does the city want to do with that small space if they move? Build an apartment?
