weisgerber-tall_1The Southern Tier Xpress, members of the NA3HL, have announced that team captain Tim Weisgerber, from Loveland has committed to play hockey in the ACHA Division I for the Mercyhurst Lakers.
“We feel Tim has made an outstanding choice to not only continue playing hockey for such a first-rate program, but the education he will receive from Mercyhurst is second to none”, states Xpress GM Brian Cersosimo. “The way Coach McKinnon develops the student-athlete at the college level makes this an even better choice for Tim,” Cersosimo added.
Weisgerber, 21, is a veteran of four NA3HL season, most recently with the Xpress. This past season, he had 21 points in 44 regular season games and appeared in both Xpress playoff games. In his NA3HL career he played 156 career games and recorded 36 career points.
“We are very excited to add Tim to our program,” says Mercyhurst Head Coach Tom McKinnon. “Tim has all three intangibles that we look for in recruiting student-athletes: great character, a solid work ethic and being a coachable young man. Tim will add depth on D, and in our opinion can come in and contribute immediately at the collegiate level”.
“With our programs being so close (approx. 40 minutes apart), we are looking to build a solid relationship between Mercyhurst and the Xpress in order to provide Xpress players a chance to continue their playing careers and education”, McKinnon states.
