    Ohio House Passes Bill to Raise Deduction Limits for State 529 Plan, ABLE Savings Account Contributions

    Columbus, Ohio – The Ohio House of Representatives on Wednesday unanimously passed legislation to update tax deductions for contributions to state 529 plans and ABLE savings accounts, announced bill sponsors, State Representatives Adam Mathews (R-Lebanon) and Nick Santucci (R-Niles).

    House Bill 48 will raise the annual deduction limit for married, joint filers for contributions to state 529 plans and ABLE savings accounts to $8,000 as well as index the annual deduction limits to inflation beginning in 2026.

    Under current law, a ‘marriage penalty’ exists where married couples filing separately can deduct $4,000 each while married couples filing jointly can only deduct $4,000 total. House Bill 48 will remedy this issue by redefining the annual contribution limit in statute to allow for joint filers to claim an $8,000 deduction.

    “I am grateful to simplify the Ohio tax code and empower families to better provide for the future of their children, whether that is for college students or those with developmental disabilities,” said Mathews.

    “House Bill 48 reflects our commitment to empowering Ohio families with the tools they need to plan for their future,” said Santucci. “With this commonsense change, we’re making it easier for Ohioans to invest in education and build financial independence.”

    House Bill 48 now awaits consideration from the Ohio Senate.

    In 2024 Ricky was in New York City to receive a Signal Award for best money and finance podcast.

    Ricky is currently a host and senior producer for Motley Fool Money, a daily podcast for stock investors. Weekday episodes offer a long-term perspective on business news with The Motley Fool’s investment analysts. Weekend shows are a mix of investing classes and longer-form interviews. The show is hosted by Dylan Lewis, Ricky, and Mary Long. In 2024, Ricky shared the “Listener’s Choice” 2024 Signal Award for best money and finance podcast.

    Loveland, Ohio – Congratulations to Grant from FTC Team 10464 The Bionic Tigers. Grant won the antweight (1lb) division laast weekend at HORD in Sandusky Ohio. This was the 20th anniversary of HORD, and in the combat robotics world, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious tournaments attracting top builders from across the country and hundreds of spectators.

    Grant went undefeated on the day (6-0), beating many of the top builders in the country including some famous Battlebots builders.

    Congratulations to the attendees of our annual swift water class. Both the students from our own Loveland Symmes and Terrace Park have completed a week long intense swift water class.

    Special thanks to all instructors, Loveland Canoe and Kayak, Milford Community Fire and Evans Landscaping in allowing us to use special spots in their area to achieve the best training possible.

    Important message from Fire Chief Billy Goldfeder about summer pool safety

    With pool season and 90 degree weather upon us in the Loveland Area we are resharing this story we first published in June of 2021. This story is still relevant and perhaps if your children watch it they to will become as Billy says, “Who’s watching the kids?” kind of kid – like six-year-old Holden Patrick Smith was.

     

    Loveland, Ohio – Billy Goldfeder of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department said on June 3, 2021, “As the water fun season is upon us, we are taking this opportunity to recognize Holden for his actions, but to also aggressively take advantage of this incident to remind our Loveland-Symmes community, along with the greater Cincinnati area of the critical importance of water safety awareness and kids”.

    Goldfeder delivered this message immediately after Six-year-old Holden Patrick Smith was honored and became the youngest Loveland-Symmes firefighter for saving the life of his cousin. Read that story HERE.

    On Thursday, June 3, 2021 at 7 PM, the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department along with the Symmes Township Trustees recognized six-year-old Township resident Holden Patrick Smith. Holden just graduated from kindergarten at the Loveland Primary School a few days before.

    Holden’s quick actions and awareness in June of 2020 when he was five-years-old led to saving the life of his much younger cousin Magnolia Jane Smith-Camp.

    • The Loveland-Symmes Fire Department honored Holden with the “Citizen’s Life Saving Award”. 
    • Holden was also made an honorary Loveland-Symmes firefighter.
    • The ceremony was delayed due to the pandemic, but it was held on June 3rd, 2021. 

    Here are two videos of the ceremony that took place at the Loveland-Symmes Fire Station 61. One is the full ceremony and brief interviews with Holden, his grandmother, and his teacher. Watch as Goldfeder explains what Holden did.

    How to protect children when they are around water

    The first video is much shorter, but it best explains the message Goldfeder wanted embedded in parent’s and caregiver’s minds – how to protect children when they are around water. And, this is as you will see is a very important message for your child as well so that they will know what to do when someone is in trouble at the pool.

    Goldfeder asks, “Who is your designated watcher?” Goldfeder wants to know, “Who’s watching the kids?”

    Goshen Grub Bus Meal Program provided a free lunch and breakfast for anyone under 18

    Goshen Township, Ohio – The Goshen Local School’s “Grub Bus” was so successful last summer, they’re bringing it back. The bus is a way to provide meals to hungry students during the summer, bringing them right to their neighborhoods.

    Any child 18 and under can walk up to the bus and walk away with a lunch for that day and breakfast for the next.

     

    Tentative Schedule for Summer 2025

    The Goshen Grub Bus will operate Monday-Thursday beginning June 2 and ending July 31 (no service July 4).

    Lunches will also be available at Marr/Cook Elementary June 2-June 26.

    The tentative daily Grub Bus schedule (subject to change) is below:

    10:45 a.m.: Arrive at Woodville Garden
    11:10 a.m.: Leave Woodville Garden
    11:15 a.m. : Arrive Green Acres
    11:40 a.m.: Leave Green Acres
    11:45 a.m.: Arrive at Fay Gardens
    12:10 p.m. : Leave Fay Gardens
    12:15 p.m.: Arrive at Lakeshore Estates
    12:40 p.m.: Leave Lakeshore Estates
    12:45 p.m.: Arrive at Meadowview
    1:10 p.m.: Leave Meadowview
    1:15 p.m.: Arrive back at Marr/Cook Elementary

    Other important info:

    • Lunch recipients must eat on site.
    • Free lunch for anyone 18 and under (recipients do not need to be a Goshen student to receive lunch)
    The Grub Bus will follow a similar menu as the regular school year, with familiar entrees and servings of fruits and vegetables in each meal.
