Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,
We are doing a Brain Cancer fundraiser for Loveland resident and Power Ryde instructor, Mary DiGiandomenico, and her son, Mark, on Thursday, September 22, at 6 pm at Power Ryde (471 Wards Corner Road). A $20 donation gets you an hour spinning class taught by Power Ryde founder, Casey Hilmer.
Carmen DiGiandomenico, Mary’s husband and Mark’s father, was diagnosed with brain cancer on September 22, 2015, and passed away 4 months later. The ryde is on the one year anniversary of Carmen’s diagnosis. Carmen was 52 years old.
Mark DiGiandomenico is running in the NY City Marathon as a team member of the Brain Tumor Foundation in November in honor of his father and uncle (who died of the same brain cancer). All proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Brain Tumor Foundation.

My son Mark is running the New York City Marathon this fall. He’s doing it in memory of his Dad, Carmen DiGiandomenico, and to raise money for the Brain Tumor Foundation. Please read Mark’s story and support his cause. ALL cancers are bad, but brain cancer is the worst. Carmen could not function normally after having several seizures that were caused by an unknown tumor in his brain. Currently there are NO tests to diagnosis brain cancer therefore when brain cancer presents itself, it’s too late. Fortunately brain cancer is not hereditary. I don’t need to worry my kids will get this cancer yet this is this reason that makes it hard to diagnosis and to CURE. Currently there are NO cures, NO tests to diagnosis, NO answers. This is the WORST cancer. Please help!!!

As many of you know my family and I suffered a tragic loss on January 18, 2016 when our fearless leader, Carmen DiGiandomenico died. Dad was dignosed with a complex form of brain cancer in September of the previous year and unfortunetly left us much sooner than expected. With that being said, I am proud to say I will be running the New York City Marathon on November 6, 2016 in my father’s honor and for my uncle, Jim Hegarty who lost his life six years before my father’s passing to the same type of brain cancer.
Additionally I will be running as a teammember of the Brain Tumor Foundation. In doing so, I have been given the task to raise $3,000. Personally, I think WE can DESTROY that amount therefore I have set a personal goal of $10,000.
I cannot reach this goal alone. That is why I am not only going to challenge myself, I challange you too! PLEASE help me achieve my goal BUT more importantly lets bring this terrible disease to the forefront. “Cancer changes lives and so can we.” My father taught me to live life with passion and bring this fire to my fundraising. “Light the fire, fuel the courage” Carmen would tell me as headed out the door for school in the mornings. Any amount is more than appreciated. Thank you all so much and I’ll see you at the finish line!
All proceeds go to the Brain Tumor Foundation.
