Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Sesquicentennial Committee is preparing for Loveland’s 150 year anniversary and is contemplating a public art contest to update the Loveland Flag.

Below is a draft proposal to conduct the contest

Loveland Artists that live or work in Loveland are encouraged to submit up to three sample flags each for the City of Loveland. No age limit. All imagery must be of original design and not a copy or variation of another artist’s design in any medium.

A $1,000 honorarium will be awarded for the use of the completed, camera-ready design.

Deadline: February 28, 2025 (Note: if your submission is entered by February 1, it will be displayed at the Loveland Hearts of Fire Weekend)

Contest Rules & Templates Selection Criteria:

Artists should bear in mind that the audiences will be broad-based and of all ages. Artwork should be appropriate for display in a public place. The art should enhance its setting and help create a sense of place. Submissions that include advertising or logos will not be considered. The jury will select public art that would not, when displayed, create a threat to public safety or create a hostile work environment for public employees.

Artworks featuring local history or Loveland locations are encouraged. Artists must include a brief statement that will help the jury better understand the artwork. If the artwork includes a historical reference, the artist must cite the reference materials.

Jury:

The submitted artworks will be selected by the Loveland Sesquicentennial Committee who is not made aware of the artists’ name, location, or any otherwise identifying information.

Duration: The new Loveland Flag will be used for a minimum of 10 years.

Honorarium:

Each selected artist will be paid a $1,000 honorarium for the use of the completed, camera-ready design as provided by artist. Submission Image Guidelines: Submissions must be turned in with the online submission form. Name each JPEG file with the correlating number on the entry form, your last name, title, medium, year. FINAL Image Guidelines:

Once selected, artists must provide higher resolution images. Submissions should be, at a minimum, 300 PPI. The art chosen for the project may be subject to additional production requirements.

Finalists will be announced Tuesday, April 1, 2025.

Artists may be asked to work with the flag supplier in finalizing design for installations.

By submitting works, artists agree to grant permission to alter/crop work as needed to fit a specific signal box.

Warranty:

Artists verify that the submitted designs are their own original work and do not violate another’s copyright. The City of Loveland will retain limited rights to use selected images as they see fit to promote the project, but artists will maintain copyright. Artists understand that if their artwork includes photography of partially or entirely recognizable people, they must provide the City of Loveland with release statements from all parties. Artists agree that the City of Loveland may photograph works in the display and use photo for promotional purposes. Artist agrees to sign a contract with the City regarding the use of each design.
