LPS second-grade students designed parachutes as part of a STEM lesson based on the fairy tale Jack and the Beanstalk.

Loveland, Ohio – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) lessons were a bit magical in Jennifer Hilton’s second grade class at Loveland Primary School (LPS). The class used Jack and the Beanstalk to design parachutes to help “Jack” get safely back down to the ground.

“This was an excellent incorporation of language arts with our STEM studies,” said Hilton. “Our students were tasked with designing parachutes using household supplies, and then they wrote a story about the experience.”

A-plus for creative thinking?
