Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is partnering with Honor Flight Tri-State to honor veterans during the 8th annual Hero2Hero Blood Drive, Thursday, Nov. 10 through Saturday, Nov. 12.
For this year’s Hero2Hero drive, Hoxworth will sponsor 15 veterans to fly with Honor Flight Tri-State, an organization that transports veterans to Washington, DC to visit their war memorials. Hoxworth asks eligible blood donors to give at a Neighborhood Donor Center or mobile location during the drive to make a blood donation and write a thank you note to a veteran.
Hoxworth hopes to collect 600 thank you notes during this year’s drive that will be presented to hundreds of Honor Flight veterans during the coming year.
“Hoxworth’s Hero2Hero Drive is a chance for blood donors to make an even bigger impact this Veterans Day—they can save a life and also thank veterans for their service and sacrifice,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “We think it’s fitting to give the gift of life in honor of those servicemen who put their lives on the line for our country.”
Anyone who donates on Nov. 10, 11 or 12 will be entered into a drawing to win a copy of the book “Legacy of Courage II: New Stories of Honor Flight Veterans,” written by Honor Flight Tri-State director Cheryl Popp. A total of eight winners will be selected.
Appointments for blood donation are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Donors can schedule appointments by calling (513) 451-0910 or by scheduling online at: www.hoxworth.org/hero2hero.
