Bronze Star Medal with “V” Device

For heroism in connection with military operations against a hostile force: Specialist Four Farquer distinguished himself by heroic actions on 6 June 1967, while on a search and destroy mission in the Republic of Vietnam.

As a reinforced squad moved in to investigate a native hut, the Viet Cong opened fire wounding Specialist Farquer, the machine gunner, in the left leg. The other members of the gun crew attempted to reach his position but were hit by automatic and semi-automatic fire.

As the volume of fire increased, Specialist Farquer brought intense machine gun fire on the enemy even though he was wounded. His cover fire gave the platoon leader covering fire and allowed him to maneuver the remainder of the platoon to bring effective fire upon the Viet Cong positions, causing the enemy to withdraw.

Specialist Farquer’s personal bravery and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
