Loveland, Ohio –Ā The Sanilac County News from Michigan has reported that theĀ Marlette, Michigan city council, “…has selected its top candidate for city manager, and he could be on the job in January. Corey Schmidt, assistant city manager and finance director for Loveland, Ohio for the past three years, won councilās nod of approval following interviews with three candidates on Nov. 3.”
Schmidt told Loveland Magazine Tuesday morning, “I have accepted the City Manager position in Marlette.”
Marlette is home to 1,875 residents within one square mile.Ā It isĀ known as “The Heart of the Michigan’sThumb”. The total annual operating budget in 2015 is $3,602,957.
Loveland’s population is a little more than 12,000 residents and has an operating budget of around $18,000,000.
Schmidt said heĀ will continue working in Loveland through early January. He was appointed to be Loveland’sĀ Assistant City Manager and Director of Finance this past January. Before that, he was the assistant to the City Manager and a Management Analyst for Loveland. His career started in Loveland in May of 2012 as a Management Fellow following two yearsĀ as a teaching assistant at Indiana University. He said, “It is an opportunity for my wife and I to move back to the state we are from and be closer to our families. I will certainly miss living and working in the City of Loveland, which has been a wonderful experience.”
