Loveland, Ohio – At the March 15 Board of Education Business Meeting, following a presentation by a team of K-12 science teachers and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Dr. Amy Crouse, the Loveland Board of Education unanimously approved the adoption and purchase of new science textbooks and instructional materials, as well as four new courses to be offered in science at the Loveland High School.
“Loveland has an amazing team of teachers in the district,” said Dr. Crouse. “When given the support and time to collaborate, I can only imagine what they will do next! Their focus has always been and continues to be on our students, and I believe that was clear in their presentation to the Board of Education. I also want to recognize the building principals who supported the process throughout. It was a privilege to work alongside this team.”
The adoption and purchase is part of the newly implemented Instructional Cycle. The cycle supports teacher collaboration to improve instruction and student achievement. Social studies will be the content area of focus for 2016-2017.
Science teachers will participate in training this spring and be prepared to implement the new materials and units of instruction next fall.
The high school science department assessed their course offerings and textbooks resulting in the recommendation of four new courses: AP Environmental Science, AP Computer Science Principles, Sustainability, and Fundamentals of Microbiology. Updated textbooks that include access to electronic textbooks were approved.
In grades K-2, teachers have selected the National Geographic science kits with a wide selection of readers to support the content during reading instruction. An overview is available on the website at: http://ngl.cengage.com/assets/html/states/oh/
In grade 3 and 4, teachers will continue to use the readers with students during reading instruction. Additionally, they have selected Discovery Education’s Science Techbook.
