the American Heart Association. “Every student participates through physical education class and we do it in a format called Hot Shot Blitz,” stated Loveland Intermediate Physical Education teacher, Barbara Orsinelli.  She continued to explain that kids benefit by learning about heart disease prevention and how each of us FullSizeRender 5are directly or indirectly touched by heart disease through family members that have suffered from strokes, heart attacks or congenital heart disease.

Orsinelli explains that the event is filled with excitement and has multi-layers of competition. It is two different assemblies one for fifth grade and one for sixth grade. The first level, students are trying to score the most points they can in one minute and it’s tricky because the students get to choose where to take the shots. The harder the shot, the more points they can earn. The second level of the competition, takes 10 of the highest scoring boys and girls from each grade to shoot off against each other. The boys play against the boys and the girls play against the girls, leaving one boy winner and one girl winner from each grade. The Hot Shot Blitz Champions are:

  • Fifth Grade Boy Champion, Andrew Waple, 41 points
  • Fifth Grade Girl Champion, Abigail Pawlikowski, 32 points
  • Sixth Grade Boy Champion, Cody Rose, 43 points
  • Six Grade Girl Champion,Tess Broerman, 43 points

The third level of the event requires the remaining boys and girls from each grade to shoot off against previous Loveland Intermediate Hot Shot Players and current Loveland High School, Boy’s Basketball Varsity senior, Jordon Rhomes and Loveland High School Varsity Girl’s player, Devon
