Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland men’s basketball team opened their 2017-18 season Friday night, taking on the Harrison Wildcats at Tiger Court. In front of a large and boisterous student section, the young Tigers rocked new home white uniforms as they took down the Wildcats 61-55 in a closely contested contest.
Starting five underclassmen, this year’s edition of the Tigers is a young group. With three juniors and two sophomores in the starting lineup, Loveland found itself down by a single point, 32-33, in a back and forth first half. Harrison’s slim halftime lead was fueled 7 Wildcat three pointers.
Coach Reis made a defensive adjustment at the half, and the Tigers came out of the locker room much more aggressive. Putting more defensive pressure on the Wildcats, the Tigers scored the first 5 points of the second half, and the Loveland never trailed again during the game. Three-pointers and free throws by Matt Toigo and Alec Soth down the stretch sealed the game for the Tigers. Tripp Willis’ emphatic block into the first row of the bleachers of Harrison’s final shot sent the Wildcats home still searching for their first win of the young season.
Junior and returning starter Jalen Greiser lead the way for the Tigers with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Junior Matt Toigo kicked in 14 for the Tigers, including 3 treys. Alec Soth and Tripp Willis each had 9 points.
Next up, the Tigers host Mason on Tuesday night at Tiger Court.
