The 2016 Loveland Tigers volleyball team continues its record setting year by adding a District Championship to their resume. The tigers defeated Springboro High School in 3 games, 25-18, 25-10, 25-22 . Their dominate serve receive and their overall defensive play was a huge factor in their victory.
The Tigers District championship is the first in program history. Coach Julie Plitt collects her 12th District title overall and her first at Loveland High School.
The tigers were led by great decision making play by setter Megan Kirlin which lead the potent offense with 40 assists. Sophomore Middle hitter Marie Plitt recorded 14 kills and 7 blocks. Senior’s Jacalyn Parsley, Maggie Dowd and Kim Bailey combined for 20 Kills and 3 blocks, along with 6’4″ sophomore Mackenzie Atkinson adding 6 kills and 2 blocks.
Senior’s Rachel Blumberg continued her excellent defensive play with 19 digs along with Senior Megan Mueller who contributed 11 digs. Sophomore Corrine Wilson added 12 digs in the back row. The serving aggressiveness and consistency of Junior Anna Cooper and the rest of the Tigers has been a big factor to keeping the opposing teams back on their heals and not allowing them to get in rhythm offensively.
With the District title the Tigers improve to 20-6 overall, and will face Mt. Notre Dame at Lakota West High School this Thursday November 3rd at 6 PM. We encourage and hope that all Loveland students and fans continue their strong support for the volleyball program by showing up in great numbers as they play in their first ever Regional semi-finals.
