Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School boys lacrosse standout Howard Jacob Lawrence recently committed to attend and play college lacrosse at Walsh University (DII).

“I really liked football when I was young, but I began to play lacrosse and knew I loved it,” said Howard. “I’m jarvis-verticalvery excited to continue my education at Walsh. I’ve worked hard with my coaches to improve so I can be ready to move on and play at the next level.”

The 6’2 185 lb. close defenseman for the Tigers attracted the attention of a number of top regional college programs, including Ohio Northern, University of Dayton and University of Cincinnati.

“I chose Walsh because of the size of the school, academic options, coaching staff and a structure that I really felt made a great fit for me, ” he said.

A two-sport athlete, Lawrence earned varsity letters in both lacrosse and football. As a starter in 2015, he scooped up 47 groundballs, bouncing between close defense and the long stick middie position. Off the field, Howard excels in the classroom, carrying a 3.7 GPA and has been recognized for his academics with High Honors recognition throughout his high school career. He also mentors fellow students in his German class, and is an active volunteer in his church.

“Howard started every game for us in 2015, and has really become an anchor for our defense,’ said Mike Pritz, Loveland’s head coach since 2014. “He’s got a great combination of size and ability, but most of all, coachability.” Pritz went on to note Lawrence had big shoes to fill to replace the departing Tanner Griffin, now playing Division I lacrosse at Hofstra. Griffin was a 2014 All-American selection, as well as that year’s Southern Ohio Overall Player of the Year. “We’re looking forward to watching him play at the next level, but for this spring the coaches are more than excited to have Howard around for another season,” said Pritz.

Lawrence was asked about the team’s outlook this spring, and his thoughts on his final season of Tiger lacrosse. He said, “I feel we’re going to have a strong season. We play with a lot of teamwork and speed  “I’ve enjoyed playing lacrosse for the past 7 years, I basically grew up with many of my teammates.”

Howard will now prepare himself for his final season with the Tigers and his future with the Walsh University Cavaliers.
