In this LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video, Vice Mayor Fitzgerald presented the 2015 Louis G. Rockwood Community Volunteer Service Award to Martin Schickel on March 24. Fitzgerald noted that Martin was nearly a life-longresident of Loveland, a Navy veteran, a small business owner, a member and former President of the LovelandAreaChamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the Loveland ArtsCouncil. Martin is a volunteer caretaker for the Loveland Bike Trail and assists in maintaining areas around the trail and Little Miami Scenic River. Martin has served on the City’s Recreation Board, Citizens Zoning Advisory Committee and the Parks and Recreation Master Plan Advisory Committee. Martin resurrected Christmas in Loveland, helped create Loveland’s Amazing Race and has volunteered of rcountless events in the City.
Fitzgerald said that Schickel shines a positive spotlight on the City of Loveland and thanked him for his many contributions and for the special events he has brought to Loveland’s residents and visitors.
Schickel thanked City Council and all those in the community that said, “Yes” when he asked for help over the years, and said that he was grateful to receive the award. He also made special mention of his wife, Kathy Schickel for doing so much of the work he was getting for doing.
