Press Release from City Hall (56/20 3:37 PM)

The City of Loveland is aware of a planned “protest-rally” by the group Free Ohio Now in Loveland on Saturday, May 9th, 2020. The City is committed to supporting everyone’s right to their first amendment protected speech and has reached out to the group organizer. It is our intention to ensure that the event is safe for everyone.

Loveland, Ohio – Warren County resident Deb Giehl notified Loveland Magazine last night that she is organizing a “Free Ohio Now” rally in Historic Downtown on Saturday to protest “grievances with the continued and repressive dictates of Governor Mike DeWine and appointed Health Director Amy Acton, MD, MPH.”

She sent Loveland Magazine a press release from Free Ohio Now announcing rallies in each county in Ohio. They have decided the Warren County rally should be in Loveland. Historic Downtown Loveland is in Clermont County.

The tag line on the press release reads:

“Rebellion to Tyrants is Obedience to God” –Benjamin Franklin, August 1776

In hoping Loveland Magazine would help her promote the rally, Giehl said, “I’m hoping the protest will take place in downtown Loveland next to the bike trail (I’ll be chatting with the Loveland Police Dept in the morning.) With a sunny, 60 degree day forcasted for Saturday, the place should be packed.”

Loveland Magazine has reached out to the Loveland Police Chief and City Manager to get their reaction to the lawfulness of gatherings of 10 or more persons, if persons would be required to wear facemasks, and if “open carry” of firearms would be allowed. We will update this story when we hear from them.
