    Heating Assistance Available

Clermont County, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Development and Clermont Senior Services want to remind senior citizens in Ohio that assistance is available to help with their home energy bills. The Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) helps Ohioans at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines pay their heating bills.

Applied directly to the customer’s utility or bulk fuel bill, the benefit can help manage heating costs. Senior citizens may go to their local Area Agency on Aging office for help with assembling the required documents and completing their HEAP application.

Senior citizens may also visit www.energyhelp.ohio.gov to apply online or to download a copy of the application.

When applying, individuals need to have copies of the following documents:
    • Most recent utility bills
    • A list of all household members (including birth dates and Social Security numbers)
    • Proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members (12 months for certain income types)
    • Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal residency for all household members
    • Proof of disability (if applicable)

HEAP benefits are applied to an individual’s energy bill after January 1st. Applications for the HEAP program must be received by May 31, 2023.

For more information or assistance with applying for a HEAP benefit, contact Clermont Senior Services at 513-724-1255

Troop 44326 from Loveland donated boxes of cookies for Meals on Wheels

A good news story from Clermont Senior Services

Troop 44326, from Loveland, stopped by the Meals on Wheels Kitchen, to deliver donated boxes of cookies for Meals on Wheels customers.

The troop sold nearly 2,000 boxes of cookies and their customers donated 100 to the Meals on Wheels program. Each troop is able to choose their own charity to whom they will donate the cookies. Troop 44326 chose Clermont Senior Services, because they wanted to make a difference in the lives of older adults. Each cookie treat delivered to a Meals on Wheels customer, will arrive with a handmade card to wish them well.

The troop will use the money they raised from cookie sales to fund their trip to camp, an experience they all expressed great excitement toward.

During their visit to the Meals on Wheels kitchen, the girls learned all about the Meals on Wheels program, its customers and other ways they can lend a hand helping older adults in our community.

  • Guardian Program in need of volunteers

Guardian Program in need of volunteers

Clermont Senior Services is looking for caring people that would be willing to donate 2-3 hours of their time each month, advocating for a senior in need through their Volunteer Guardian Program.

It is often assumed we will have someone to take care of our needs if we become unable to manage them for ourselves. The truth is, there are seniors around us with mental incapacities that have no one willing or able to assist them in their daily affairs. They are alone, and they need your help.

Individuals served by the Volunteer Guardian Program are 60 years of age or older, reside in a nursing facility, or other group care setting, and have some type of mental incapacity.

Here are a few ways you will benefit from this position:  giving of yourself to a senior in need, learning new information through initial and ongoing trainings, becoming familiar with nursing facilities, hospitals, and interacting with the staff of those facilities.

This Volunteer Guardian position is for “Guardian of Person” only – that means you would have no financial responsibility for the senior.

Contact Kathy Angel, Volunteer Coordinator, to become a Volunteer Guardian or to learn more about the process.
