Loveland, Ohio – It’s that time of year again for the Annual “Stuff the Cruiser” Food Drive sponsored by the Loveland Police Division and the Loveland Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association!

The food drive is scheduled for Saturday, July 18th at the Loveland Kroger store from 9 AM until 1 PM. There will be many smiling volunteers set up outside Kroger to accept all donations. The donations that are collected will be taken to LIFE Food Pantry where they will be both sorted and dated.

LIFE Food Pantry volunteer, Connie Rotterman is more than excited for this particular food drive because there have been so few since February in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This food drive will really help fill our pantry shelves and feed the over 300 families in Loveland that depend on LIFE Food Pantry each month for food,” Rotterman said.

If you would like to provide over 300 families with the food they need please take a few minutes out of your day to stop by Loveland Kroger on July 18th between 9 AM and 1 PM to donate food items!

  • The project is called Therapy Swings for Deaf Children

The project is called Therapy Swings for Deaf Children

    Dear Loveland Magazine Readers,

My name is Vincent Proctor and I’m working on my Boy Scout Eagle Project. The project benefits Ohio Valley Voices school for deaf children, located Miami Township just outside of Loveland.

GoFundMe donations will be sent directly to the school and be designated for this project. All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt digitally.

Funds are only being collected through October 8, 2018, so please donate today!

You could also help by sharing this campaign on Facebook and Twitter.

The project is called Therapy Swings for Deaf Children. The swings will benefit the children by helping in the therapy treatment for a condition called Sensory Integration Disorder, which is common in deaf children.

The cost of an institutional grade swing set, installation supplies and equipment plus a large area of playground mulch bring the budget for this project much higher than is typical for Eagle projects. I really want to make this project happen for the kids but need the generous support of the community in order to achieve it.

I have opened a GoFundMe account to facilitate the funding. Could you please help get the word out? Here is the URL:

    gofundme.com/therapy-swings-fund

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Sincerely,

    Vincent Proctor

  • Charitable giving: Where head and heart meet

Charitable giving: Where head and heart meet

    libby-greiwe-small

How can a person support organizations that help people in need? Some may choose to give their time and abilities through volunteer service while others may provide financial support. Charitable giving provides an opportunity to engage both your head and your heart in making a difference. The following tips from Thrivent Financial can help donors make the most of their charitable gifts:

    • Choose a reputable organization. Never give to an organization without first knowing its purpose and effectiveness. The BBB Wise Giving Alliance can help you evaluate your options.
    • Budget for donations. Systematic gifts spread throughout the year may help donors give more than if they give a one-time gift based on their financial leftovers.
    • Keep good records. To deduct donations for tax purposes, people must keep an appropriate record of their contributions. The type and value of one’s gift may require specific forms of acknowledgement from the recipient organization. For details, see Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Publication 526.
    • Take advantage of tax benefits. In order for a charitable donation to be tax-deductible, the charity must be recognized by the IRS as a qualified organization. Most organizations can confirm their status or you can verify independently at IRS.gov.
    • Give generously and wisely.  From wills, living trusts, charitable gift annuities, endowments, and mini-foundations, to gifts of appreciated stock, retirement funds or real estate, there are many vehicles through which individuals can make charitable gifts.

Special care should be given when determining the option that meets one’s financial circumstances. Gifting some assets to IRS-recognized charities may potentially reduce capital gains tax. Life insurance may also be an excellent option to magnify a gift.

    • Consult with experts. Always consult with a financial, legal and/or tax professional before putting a gifting plan into action.

When moved to make a difference, donors should remember there are many options for making a financial gift. Just be sure to explore the options and enlist appropriate support along the way. By fully planning a charitable gift, a person can ensure their head and their heart are satisfied.

  • It’s Adopt-A-Senior Time!

    It’s Adopt-A-Senior Time!

There are only 13 weeks separating us from the beauty of fall and the gift-giving season! It’s not too early to begin thinking about the difference you will make in the life on an older adult this Christmas season.

Once again, Clermont Senior Services will facilitate the Adopt-A-Senior, gift giving program, in which, over 600 needy older adults in Clermont County will receive necessary items from the generous donors in our community.

Donors who wish to participate are asked to contact Kathy Angel, Volunteer Coordinator at Clermont Senior Services, by calling, 536-4021. Donors will receive the first name of a gift recipient along with a wish list. The list is comprised of mostly basic, needed items along with a few “fun” gifts that may include books, games or favorite snacks.

Donors return their wrapped gifts to Clermont Senior Services where staff and volunteers then deliver the packages to the recipients beginning in December.

Other opportunities to give during this season include:

    • Gift pantry donations – these donations include things like personal care items, cleaning supplies, new bedding, pet food, paper supplies, flashlights and new clothing. These items are distributed by Case Managers on an as-needed basis to Clermont Senior Services customers.
    • Gift Bags – Donors have the opportunity to fill gift bags with personal care items for a man or woman. Be sure to mark the bag with the appropriate gender.
    • Cash donations – Occasionally, customers are in need of larger items such as mattresses, chairs, etc. These donations are used for that purpose.
    • Gift cards – Grocery store gift cards are a quick, easy way to make an impact. Case managers recognize the needs of our customers and will distribute the cards as needed.

Corporate donors and individuals alike, are encouraged to participate in the 2017 Adopt-A-Senior program. Please call Kathy Angel for more information: 536-4021

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland Magazine asked readers to send us information about ways our community can support relief efforts for Hurricane Harvey. Here are the responses.

    From Susan Grosse:

Red Cross plays a huge role in rescue and relief for disasters. The Cincinnati/Ohio Valley Chapter has many staff and volunteers with a high level of expertise. 19 from our region have already been deployed.

Monetary donations on the Red Cross website are preferred, are invaluable and go directly toward the relief effort budget.  Red Cross does not take in miscellaneous items from the public.  They use the power of the monetary donations to buy the absolute right items needed for the current disaster.  The monetary donations go a lot further because Red Cross can take advantage of reduced cost as they will buy in bulk.

for questions, call the local office (513) 579-3000

Bethel Murdoch Presbyterian Church wants to help bring hope and healing to the Texas families who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. The way in which we will help is that we will contribute funds to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) who will deploy their National Response Team members to the Texas area as soon as is humanly possible. PDA is known for their rapid response in tragic situations and is a part of the Mission Agency of the Presbyterian Church (USA). If anyone would like to support PDA’s emergency response and recovery efforts they may donate by check, gifts can be designated to DR000169-Harvey. You may send it to: Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), PO Box 643700, Pittsburgh, PA, 15264-3700. Let us be generous as we share our love and support with those struggling in Texas.
