LIFE Food Pantry Holds New Location Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!

Loveland, Ohio – The time has finally come for Loveland’s finest food pantry to open their new location!

The LIFE (Loveland InterFaith Effort) Food Pantry announced Tuesday that they will be holding a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their new location, 541 Loveland-Madeira Road, on Thursday, September 10th at 4 PM.

LIFE moved locations from Prince of Peace to Shopper’s Haven in Loveland because of the growing demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the press release sent out by LIFE it stated:

“LIFE is increasing capacity in a new space that will allow us to serve even more residents in need. This move is critical for the ever-growing demand during COVID-19. The new location will provide:
• capacity to store and serve an increased amount of food and supplies
• a more dignified experience for our clients
• the capability to extend hours of operation
• space for our volunteers to stay safe by following social distancing regulations
• closer proximity to many of our clients
• an adjacent outdoor area to host food drives”

Although LIFE’s amazing staff would love everyone in the community to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony, invites are limited due to the COVID-19 restrictions. If you would like to attend the ceremony contact Linda

LIFE is a Freestore Foodbank partner and the primary food assistance provider in the Greater Loveland area. If you or someone you know is in need of assistance visit LIFE Food Pantry on Thursdays from 4:00–6:30 PM and Saturdays from 10: AM until 12:30 PM. Hours after October 1st will be the following: Tuesdays from 10 AM until noon, and 4 until 6:30 PM, Wednesdays from 10 AM until noon., Thursdays from 10 AM until noon, and 4 PM until 6:30 PM, Fridays from 10 AM until noon., and Saturdays from 10 AM until noon.

Ohio cannabis industry virtual food drive provides nearly 15 thousand meals

Cincinnati/Cleveland/Columbus, Ohio – When the cannabis industry was deemed essential business by the State of Ohio, civic organization Cannabis Can! immediately felt a responsibility to help fellow Ohioans. Its mission that Cannabis Can! Strengthen Communities! and Fight Hunger! called organizers into action in March as COVID-19 shutdowns began to increase food insecurity nationwide.

Cannabis Can! worked with Freestore Foodbank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and Mid-Ohio Foodbank for its 2019 Holiday Canned Food Drive, which collected half a ton of nonperishable goods. In conjunction with its food bank partners in Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus, they established branded landing pages for the 2020 Virtual Food Drive. Through these web pages, a text-to-give campaign and Facebook, Cannabis Can! supporters have been making secure, tax-deductible gifts directly to food banks for immediate use.

Forty-one mainstream and cannabis industry businesses, nonprofits, organizations, and influencers became Partners in the Cannabis Can! campaign to raise funds for Ohio food banks. Partners promote the Virtual Food Drive and offer incentives to donors; in turn, they receive promotion benefits from Cannabis Can!. A diverse group of Partners formed that includes businesses and organizations not directly related to the cannabis industry.

The Drive itself started on April 20 and the call went out to “Celebrate 4/20 by showing that the cannabis community cares about fighting hunger.” Organizers set a fundraising goal of $3,000.00, equivalent to 12,000 meals or $27,000 worth of groceries, by June 30.

They not only met that goal, they surpassed it. Cannabis Can! Director, Lorien Hill-Purcell, announced $3,745.55 has been given directly to the Columbus area Mid-Ohio Foodbank, Greater Cleveland Food Bank, and Freestore Foodbank in Cincinnati collectively. Sixty donations, ranging from $5 to $525, make up the total. “Our Partners and Supporters include individuals and organizations who invested time, energy, and resources to reduce the stigma around cannabis by fighting hunger and strengthening Ohio communities,” says Hill-Purcell.

The $3,745.55 raised will help Ohio food banks acquire and distribute up to $33,709.95 worth of groceries, equivalent to 14,982 meals for our neighbors in need. However, the Drive does not stop because the goal was achieved. Donation pages will be active throughout the remainder of 2020 and links to them are available on the Cannabis Can! website, cannabiscanohio.org. Organizers’ new Virtual Food Drive target is $5,000 by January 1, 2021.

Loveland High School’s senior class spends a day serving local nonprofits

This group of Loveland High School seniors spent Senior Service Day at Valley View, a nonprofit organization in Milford with a mission of conserving land, preserving history and sharing it with the community.

Loveland, Ohio – The entire senior class at Loveland High School (LHS) spent Wednesday, October 16 volunteering at nonprofits throughout the area. Beginning the day assembled at New Hope Baptist Church, the students learned from presenters about the value and impact of community service and then spent the afternoon assisting at a range of

local organizations and agencies, including: Bethany House, Cincinnati Parks, Freestore Foodbank, Grailville, Granny’s Garden, Greenacres, Hands Against Hunger, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Nest, New Life Furniture, Play Library, Stepping Stones, St. Francis Seraph School, St. Vincent De Paul, and Valley View. The students also assisted in various projects at school campuses across the district.

Throughout the day, students shared their efforts and experiences on social media, using the Twitter hashtag #makeyourmark.

“Our eighth annual Senior Service Day was a great success,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “I appreciate all the hard work that went into the planning and organization of the event, which involved nearly 400 students, educators and additional volunteers.”
