    Milford, Ohio – The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS) is hosting a historic home tour of nine properties in the south Milford area on Saturday, April 23, 2022, from 11 AM until 4 PM. Tour tickets will be limited in number and will cost $35 in advance, and $40 the day of the tour.

    Homes on the tour will cover a wide range of sizes, ages, and renovations, and include properties on Cleveland, Center, Garfield, Mound, Forest, and Main streets. The event is a fundraiser for GMAHS and Promont Museum.

    Milford’s Historical Society cancels Annual Art Affaire for 2020

    Milford, Ohio – The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS) has announced the cancellation of its 15th Annual Art Affaire due to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 pandemic. The Art Affaire, an art and fine craft show, is a primary fundraiser for the Society held yearly on the fourth Saturday of September along Main Street (U.S. Route 50) in Milford, Ohio.

    “This was a difficult decision,” says Donna Amann, GMAHS administrator, “however, the health and safety of everyone involved – artists, attendees, event sponsors, food vendors, GMAHS staff and volunteers, and Milford’s Main Street businesses – cannot be overstated. We felt this was the only viable solution for 2020.”

    Art Affaire is a significant source of income for GMAHS, and it is a much-anticipated event for the City of Milford. The committee explored several alternatives before making the cancellation decision, but it could not offer a solution that would ensure its ability to meet state, city and festival COVID-19 guidelines.

    “While we are cancelling the event for this year,” comments Martha Kleinfelter, chair, Art Affaire committee, “we plan to bring Art Affaire back in 2021. We have already set our December planning meeting to get that ball rolling. Additionally, the cancellation will allow our loyal sponsors more time to rebuild, after many suffered financial set-backs due to the pandemic. Under the current circumstances, we felt the decision to cancel would be best for all who participate in Art Affaire.”

    The Greater Milford Area Historical Society, Inc. (a 501c3, non-profit) was founded in 1967 with the purpose of emphasizing the history of Milford.     Premier art and fine crafts show features an outstanding array of art, music, food

    Milford, Ohio – The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS), in association with Lykins Energy Solutions, will present the 13th Annual Art Affaire – Milford’s premier art and fine craft show – on Saturday, September 22, 2018, 11 am to 5 pm. This event is free and open to the public and will be held, rain or shine, on a closed three-block section of Main Street (U.S. Route 50) in historic Milford, Ohio 45150.

    “Art Affaire is a primary fundraiser for GMAHS,” comments Donna Amann, administrator, GMAHS. “We are extremely pleased that the show continues to grow, our sponsors stay committed, and the community embraces this magnificent display of local and regional art. The Main Street venue in historic Milford is also very special, as it allows us to showcase artists as well as feature the quaint shops and cafes on the street.”  

    The 2018 Art Affaire call to artists generated a record-number of applications. “We received our largest-ever number of applications with nearly 40 percent of those from artists new to Art Affaire,” says Mary Ward, artist coordinator, Art Affaire. “We are definitely pleased with the quality and diversity of this year’s participating artists.”

    The 13th Annual Art Affaire will feature:

    • A record-breaking 120 juried local and regional artists exhibiting and selling original works in clay, digital art, drawing, fiber art, glass, jewelry, leather, metalwork, mixed media, painting, paper and print making, photography, sculpture, wearable art and wood.
    • A number of demonstrating artists, including the Ohio Valley Woodturners Guild; Wade McCarren and O’Neal Johnston, wood carving; June Ludwick, pine needle baskets; John Middick, drawing; and more.
    • A variety of strolling musical entertainment including Civil War guitarist, Steve Ball; Bear Foot with Russ and Barb Childers featuring Appalachian music and storytelling; Kevin Moran, Americana music; Lars Noble, country music; Roaring 20’s Barbershop Quartet; and Wild Carrot with American roots music.
    • Food by 20 Brix, Harvest Market, Lehr’s Prime Market, Padrino Italian and Tickled Sweet; and wine and beer from Lehr’s Prime Market. The event will feature two hospitality tents where visitors can relax and enjoy refreshments.
    • A Community Cultural Tent featuring local and regional arts-related organizations including Artsy Fartsy, Cincinnati Art Museum, Clermont Chorale, Clermont County Public Library, Historic Milford Association (HMA), Milford History Library, Milford Theatre Guilde and Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)/UC Clermont.

    “Art Affaire continues to enhance its growing reputation,” says 2017 Art Affaire Best of Show winners and jewelry artists, Aaron Rubinstein and Haguit Rubinstein-Towler. “The 2017 show was our first participation in Art Affaire, and we were extremely pleased with the overall quality of art and the excellent event organization. We are excited to participate again in this year’s Art Affaire and look forward to seeing return customers.”

    The 13th Annual Art Affaire, presented by GMAHS, will be held Saturday, September 22, 2018 – always the 4th Saturday in September.

    Art Affaire is a juried outdoor show that features art and fine craft. The emphasis is on original work, both in concept and execution, by artists working in the following mediums: clay/ceramics; digital art; drawing; fiber art; glass; jewelry; leather; metalwork; mixed media; painting; photography; paper/print making; sculpture; wearable art; wood; other.

    The winner of its third annual Art Affaire poster image competition is June Pfaff Daley of Pleasant Ridge. She received $1,000 for her winning design.

    —Winning Image Will Support 13th Annual Art Affaire Promotion—

    Milford, Ohio—May 24, 2018—The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS) and poster competition sponsor, the City of Milford, are pleased to announce the winner of the 2018 Art Affaire Poster Image competition. June Pfaff Daley of Pleasant Ridge (Cincinnati) created the winning poster and will be awarded $1,000 for her entry.

    Daley’s “The Promont Art Cart” image features a Promont steeple-inspired umbrella that shades a whimsical old-time cart peddling a variety of creative wares and entertainment. The mixed-media work includes vintage catalog and music papers, various trim pieces and embroidery.

    The nine artists that entered this year’s competition included:  Kate Albert (Milford); Chris Clements (Milford); June Pfaff Daley (Cincinnati); Marian Fisher (Liberty Township); Joyce Grothaus (Milford); Scott Hempleman (Cincinnati); Ann Huddleston (Cincinnati); Bobbi Thies (Milford); and Dee Turner (Milford).

    The Historical Society would like to thank this year’s judges:  Michael Doss, city manager, City of Milford; Fred Albrecht, mayor, City of Milford; and Carl Samson – an internationally acclaimed portrait artist, figurative and plein-air landscape painter, based in Cincinnati and residing in historic South Milford.

    “GMAHS is proud of the response to its Art Affaire poster competition,” says Suzette Albrecht, GMAHS board member and poster competition coordinator for Art Affaire. “In its third year, the program has gained momentum and the posters are becoming a collector’s item. It will be exciting to see how the competition evolves, as each year will bring something new for the collector.

    GMAHS will use the winning image to create promotional materials for Art Affaire, including the collectible 20”x30” poster, which will be available in July. Posters will cost $10 and will be available for purchase at Promont, 906 Main Street, Milford, Ohio (open most Sunday’s 1-4 PM); and at Row House Gallery and Custom Framing located at 211 Main Street, historic Milford. Row House is open Tuesday-Friday, 10 AM to 5 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM. Posters will also be available during the 13th Annual Art Affaire, which will be held on Saturday, September 22, 11 AM to 5 PM on Main Street in Historic Milford.

    Art Affaire is presented by the Greater Milford Area Historical Society in association with Lykins Energy Solutions with major sponsorship from Proforma Albrecht & Company, City of Milford; D.E.R.   • Milford Historical Society accepts historical painting into its art collection

    Milford Historical Society accepts historical painting into its art collection

    Milford, Ohio – The Greater Milford Area Historical Society (GMAHS) has accepted a gift/donation of an historical painting into its art collection. An original oil painting by Enno Meyer (1874-1947) titled “War Dogs” was presented to GMAHS on Sunday, December 17, by Bob Siegfried, a local resident and distant relative by marriage to Enno Meyer.

    Enno Meyer was born in Cincinnati; and, along with his wife, Marie (Bricker), lived in Miami Township, Milford, Ohio on an estate known as Pine Lawns – now the site of Clermont Nursing Home. Both Meyer and his wife are buried in Milford’s Greenlawn Cemetery.

    By profession, Meyer was a photographer, painter, sculptor, etcher and illustrator; and he studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with well-known Cincinnati artist, Frank Duveneck. He is recognized for his works depicting American Indians as well as exotic animals that were part of the Cincinnati Zoo in 1895-96. Meyer was also a dog breeder, and his passion and experience in this field led him to serve as a judge for the Westminster Kennel Dog Show, which has been held in New York City annually since 1877. He wrote and illustrated standards on several dog breeds including the German shepherd dogs depicted in the “War Dogs” painting.

    “The Historical Society is honored to receive this significant work of art,” commented Donna Amann, administrator, Greater Milford Area Historical Society. “Many people who visit Promont are particularly interested in the Society’s art collection, and we are pleased to expand the offering with this gift. Plans are to have the painting professionally cleaned and reframed before displaying it among other items in the Society’s Veteran-oriented collection.”
