    A Look At Loveland Spring Sports

    Loveland, Ohio – It is going to be a busy weekend for Loveland Tiger Athletes. Let’s catch up on how the spring sports teams are doing, and highlight some great individual performances!

    Loveland Softball

    Going into their game this evening against West Clermont, the Tigers sit at 1-1. They won their opener 11-9 over Anderson but dropped their next contest to little Miami 8-6.

    Boys Volleyball

    Loveland Boys Volleyball got off to a hot start at 2-1, beating both Fairfield and Turpin. They fell in five sets to Milford on the road in a very tough game. Their next game comes April 2 against Princeton.

    Carter Lucas leads the ECC in Kills with 37 while Freshman Gavin McWaters is fourth in the conference with 30. Clay Bebout and Colton Baker are 1-2 in the league in blocks, so the Tigers are well represented on the leaderboards for the ECC.

    Loveland Boy’s Lacrosse

    Loveland Boy’s Lacrosse lost its first three games out of the gate this year. But they bounced back in a big way against Anderson with a 12-0 victory. Luke Daugherty (So) and Adam King (Jr) paced the Tigers with three goals apiece. They take on Little Miami on April 2nd.

    Other Spring Sports

    Loveland Baseball’s first game is March 29th against Brecksville-Broadview. Girl’s Lacrosse has played one game, a close 10-7 loss to Anderson. Track and Field gets going in earnest in early April, and Boy’s Tennis will open their season against Elder on the 31st.

    [Final-4 Bound] Tiger Women are Regional Lacrosse Champions

    Loveland, Ohio – Thursday, May 27th the Loveland Tigers fought hard for the regional title against Mason High School, a very even match-up. The game could’ve gone either way, but the women fought hard and won 11-10.

    The game started and finished very back and forth. Just a few minutes into the game it was 2-1 Loveland. Then they were tied at 3. Every second of the game counted with Loveland and Mason constantly scoring a goal to tie or one-up the other team.

    This proved true all the way to the final 5 minutes of the game with Carly Wilhoite (senior) scoring Loveland’s 10th goal and Mason scoring their 10th goal shortly after.

    Josey Storm (senior) shot the team’s winning goal after the team ran the clock down to 2 minutes. These final minutes afterward were extremely frantic with Mason pushing for a goal to tie the game and Loveland trying to run the ball until the time would run out.

    With just 12 seconds left, Mason’s goalie launched the ball to her teammates when Elly Steinbrunner (sophomore) jumped in from defense and intercepted the ball. Unfortunately, a time-out was called by Mason’s coach before Elly got the ball, so Mason still had the ball in their possession.

    At this point, there were 7 seconds left in the game, but the time was reset back to the 12 seconds before the goalie threw the ball. Loveland and Mason huddled up to devise their strategies for the final seconds of the game. Mason still had a chance to tie the game up.

    Mason ran straight to the goal, but unfortunately for them, shot the ball way too far. After being passed the ball, Maggie Nance (senior goalie) held it for the final 3 seconds. Thus, the Loveland Women’s Lacrosse Team beat Mason 11-10, winning regionals and moving on to the semi-finals.

    The Tigers will be playing the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks at Mason High School on Wednesday, June 2nd. Dublin beat Upper Arlington 11-9, a major upset for the 10-time state champions.

    Dublin Senior Ashleigh Rothe is on the MaxPreps State leaderboard in Goals in 8th position. She is followed by team mates, Seniors Avery Schwab in 9th and Amanda Bailey, 13th). Avery Swab is #4 in assists. Sophia Schwab is #19 on the leaderboard in assists.

    MaxPreps rates the Loveland Tigers the #7 team in Ohio and the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks #9.

    Loveland Magazine TV Introduces Debbie Murray and Lilly Hummer to the “Sweetheart of Ohio”

    Loveland, Ohio – With the end of January quickly approaching Loveland is preparing for one of the city’s most celebrated holidays, Valentine’s Day! For those who haven’t experienced the magic of Valentine’s Day in Loveland, you may be wondering why it is one of the most celebrated holidays. Well, other than the city itself being called “Love-land” it is also referenced to as the “Sweetheart of Ohio,” and for a VERY good reason! This year two very special “Sweethearts,” Debbie Murray and Lilly Hummer, were selected to join the historic Loveland Valentine’s Program. Of course, Loveland Magazine wanted to pay tribute by providing our readers with some Loveland Valentine history and an exclusive on-camera interview with Debbie and Lilly!

    This year two very special “Sweethearts,” Debbie Murray and Lilly Hummer, were selected to join the historic Loveland Valentine’s Program.

    The Loveland Valentine’s Program began in 1972 and quickly became a nationally-known cachet stamping and postmark program. Once the program was up and running the community of Loveland decided to broaden the program’s horizons adding more fun and exciting ways to spread love throughout the city. This included the addition of two very prestigious competitions, the selection of Loveland’s annual Valentine Lady and Loveland’s Valentine Card Design Contest.

    So what is a Valentine Lady? A Loveland Valentine Lady can be defined as “a woman who has distinguished themselves in the community, at local schools, and/or with family endeavors.” This lovely lady once selected is the ambassador for the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance’s Valentine program meaning she will spread both love and generosity by visiting area businesses, nursing homes, and schools. The Valentine Lady is chosen by the Loveland community and then picked by the LMR Chamber committee. In 1982 Loveland’s first Valentine Lady, Doris Pfiester was selected. Below is the list of Loveland’s past Valentine Ladies!

    Debbie Murray was announced on December 12th at Loveland’s legendary spot, The Works, as the 34th Valentine Lady! Murray has resided in Loveland since 1985 and is a highly decorated woman in all that she does for the community. Loveland’s 2018 Valentine Lady, Kay Bolin, when asked about Debbie Murray being selected as the 2020 Valentine Lady, had nothing but kind words to say about Murray!

    Debbie is indeed one of the nicest, most down to earth individuals you could ever meet.

    “I met Debbie Murray in 2018 when I was at that year’s, Loveland Valentine Lady celebration. As we all know, part of the Valentine Lady’s responsibility is to go around to the local schools, which is when I met Debbie as she was a teacher at Tender Years,” Bolin explained, “I have been fortunate to spend more time with Debbie since she has been selected. CeeCee Collins asked me to read one of the many nomination letters that the chamber received nominating Debbie for the 2020 Valentine Lady at the recent Valentine Lady kickoff event. I was honored and felt so fortunate to share this nomination letter to the community. Debbie is indeed one of the nicest, most down to earth individuals you could ever meet and what she has contributed to the Loveland community is wonderful. Deb is the definition of love and kindness! I am looking forward to personally getting to know Debbie better as well as seeing her continued contribution to our community. Debbie, we welcome you to our Valentine Lady Sisterhood!,” Bolin said.

    Lilly Hummer, a freshman Lacrosse player from Loveland High School, was recognized as Loveland’s Valentine’s Day card design winner.

    I’m sure everyone can agree that Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be what it is without a great Valentine’s Day card! The LMR Chamber realized this during the early stages of the Valentine’s Day Program so they decided to incorporate a Valentine’s Day Card Design Contest! The design contest is open to anyone in the Loveland community and the only stipulations are that the artwork must reflect or incorporate the theme: “Love is…..” and must also include (or provide space for) the phrase, “There is nothing in this world so sweet as love.” Allowing anyone in the Loveland community to participate in the design contest makes the contest itself both creative and diverse! There have been many great design winner’s in the past, one of them being Loveland Magazine’s very own David Miller.

    2020 marks one of the most creatively diverse card designs to date. Lilly Hummer, a freshman Lacrosse player from Loveland High School, was recognized as Loveland’s Valentine’s Day card design winner, on January 11th at the Valentine Kick-off at the Loveland Kroger’s.

    Hummer will receive design credit on the back of the 2020 Valentine’s Day cards, local recognition, media recognition and two complimentary invitations to the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance Annual Valentine Breakfast on February 14, 2020.     Loveland, Ohio – Men’s Varsity Tennis clinched the ECC Conference Title with their win in the ECC Conference tournament, Baseball currently sits in 7th at 3-7 in the ECC, Softball currently sits in 6th at 3-8 in the ECC, Men’s Lacrosse currently sits in 4th at 2-2 in the ECC, and Women’s Lacrosse currently sits at 2nd at 3-1 in the ECC.

    All Sports Trophy

    Men’s Tennis leads the charge in retaining the All Sports Trophy for Loveland. Loveland has won the All Sports Trophy 4 of the 6 years that the ECC has been in existence and looks to make it 5 out of 7 years as they have the lead with just the spring sports to go.

    Loveland Men’s Tennis ends Turpin’s reign on the tennis courts

    Turpin has won the last 5 ECC Championships in Men’s Tennis leading up to this season. They have also won the last 4 ECC Championships on the Women’s side. Loveland has worked their way up the conference charts over the course of the last four years going from 1-5 in 2016 and finishing in 6th to back to back 4-2 seasons in 2017/2018. After being in the top half of the league both seasons and working hard off-season, Loveland looked to make their move this season. The team started off strong beating Anderson and Milford but then played rival and runner up, Kings. In a great match, Loveland won 4-1 over Kings and carried that momentum to their following ECC matches beating Walnut Hills 4-1, West Clermont 5-0, and 5-time defending champions Turpin 4-1.

    Loveland’s Men’s Tennis team currently sit at 13-3 and this years ECC Champions.

    Loveland, Ohio – This school year, the Loveland Middle and Intermediate School PTSA is advocating for social and emotional health. Every month, a newsletter is sent out to ALL parents of the 1500

    students at the buildings on one specific topic that faces our kids today. After an initial message to “Start Talking,” in August, they have addressed internet safety, Juuling and nicotine, anxiety, empowering girls, and suicide/depression.     On February 21st, there will be a FREE seminar open to ALL members of the community given by John O’Sullivan, the author of the Best-Selling book, “Changing the Game.”
     

    The Loveland Youth Sports Council is sponsoring the author’s visit (along, in part, by the M/INT PTSA). Youth organizations in Loveland (baseball, fast pitch, soccer, lacrosse, football, and basketball) have formed a coalition to address some of the problems that are negatively impacting their players. M/INT PTSA President Megan Graff said, “Extracurricular activities should be the source of stress relief, rather than the cause of it. It’s time to change the culture of youth sports.  Be engaged, start talking about how to create a positive environment for our kids, and attend the seminar.”

    Loveland High School standout Tanner Griffin added to professional lacrosse roster

    COLUMBUS, Ohio– The Ohio Machine have announced the addition of Tanner Griffin to their 25-man roster.

    Griffin, a Loveland, Ohio native, played four seasons at Hofstra, starting 47 games during his career. The defenseman tied the team lead with 10 caused turnovers during his senior season and ended his career with the Pride with 98 groundballs and 35 caused turnovers. Griffin was a two-time All-CAA second team selection and CAA Commissioner’s Academic Award recipient.

    Griffin played four years of lacrosse and football at Loveland (OH) High School. Named to the USILA All-America team and voted Southern Ohio Player of the Year as a senior. Also an all-region first team pick in 2014…Picked up 93 ground balls and tallied three goals and two assists in 2014…Earned Under Armour Underclassmen All-America honors as a junior after scooping up 108 ground balls and notching three goals and three assists…Two-time All-ECC selection and all-region pick in 2012 and 2013. Was a three-year varsity starter at safety for the Loveland football team and played on the Ohio Division 2 State Championship team in 2013.

    In 2014 Griffin was recognized as one of the top 20 HS lacrosse players in the Midwest.

    Three Loveland CHCA Seniors Sign with Athletic Scholarships

    Eight Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy seniors recently participated in National Signing Day, signing letters of intent to commit to playing at schools next year. The ceremony took place on Thursday, February 8, at CHCA’s Martha S. Lindner Upper School.

    Mason Bernhardt of Loveland signed with Ohio University, located in Athens, OH, to play football. Bernhardt was named 1st Team All MVC, 1st Team All District, and Honorable Mention All State.

    Peyton Breese of Loveland signed with Valparaiso University, located in Valparaiso, IN to play football. Breese was named 2nd Team All MVC.

    Kyler Mueller of Mason signed with Ashland University, located in Ashland, OH, to play football. Mueller was named 1st Team All MVC and Honorable Mention All District.

    Austin Young of Mason signed with Wilmington College, located in Wilmington, OH, to play football and lacrosse. During his football season, Young was named 1st Team All MVC, as well as All Academic Team. CHCA Lacrosse Coach Mark Lynch shares, “The men’s lacrosse program is excited for Austin. He is the very first NCAA lacrosse commit for CHCA. Austin exemplifies the values we preach in our program: hard work, a team-first mentality, and being a versatile athlete. We know he will be a great representation of CHCA at Wilmington on the gridiron, lacrosse field, and in the classroom.”

    CHCA Football Coach, Mark Mueller, says, “I am excited for Mason, Peyton, Kyler, and Austin to extend their playing careers. They will each be an awesome addition to their new programs. As for us at CHCA, we have our hands full, filling the major roles they played for us. I wish them all the best, and am especially excited to watch my son, Kyler, play for my alma mater.”

    Amanda Donahue of Morrow signed with Baldwin Wallace, located in Berea, OH, to play soccer. Donahue is a four-year varsity letter winner. She received MVC Honorable Mention for one year and 2nd Team All MVC for two years. CHCA Girls’ Soccer Coach Heather Vibberts says, “Baldwin Wallace is not only getting a top quality athlete and student, but a great person. I know she will be successful no matter what the future holds. We are so excited to see her continue her soccer career and develop her skills at the next level.”

    Griffin Hughes of Loveland signed with Queens College, located in Charlotte, NC, to play baseball. He also received the prestigious Presidential Academic Scholarship. Hughes led his team in stolen bases in the 2017 spring season.

    Camryn Olson of Mason signed with Hillsdale College, located in Hillsdale, MI, to play softball. In her 2017 season, Olson hit .712, led the league in total strikeouts with 175, her ERA was 0.64, she set a team record of three homeruns in one game, and was voted MVC Player of the Year. In addition to her time on the field, Olson also played basketball, is a member of National Honor Society, works in the Leaning Eagle Coffee Bar, and was part of the cast of CHCA’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

    Cayse Osborne of Sycamore Township signed with University of Montevallo, located in Montevallo, AL, to play baseball. Osborne was named 2nd Team All MVC for baseball. He was also named 2nd Team All MVC for football, as well as All Academic Team.

    CHCA Director of Athletics Eric Taylor shares, “It was an incredible honor to celebrate excellence and the upcoming opportunities for our CHCA student-athletes. These athletes have left quite a legacy at CHCA and their leadership will impact many future teams. These eight athletes represent five sports and include all collegiate divisions. We are excited to see them enter the next phase of their lives”
