    A Look at Last Week’s LHS Sports and What’s to Come This Week!

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School’s Fall sports seasons have finally taken off! Although COVID-19 has made school vs. school competitions this Fall season somewhat difficult the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC) and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) has implemented safety protocols that have allowed high school student-athletes to have the sports seasons they have been dying to have! 

    Last week in LHS sports proved to be quite the success as several Tiger squads had victories! Here’s the Loveland Sports 411 for the week of September 7th-13th as well as what competitions you should expect for this week in the LHS sports world!

    FOOTBALL

    The LHS Football team was supposed to have the ultimate rivalry game at Milford on Friday, September 11th, but unfortunately, the game had to be canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test involving a Milford Football player. The schools are working on rescheduling the contest.

    Currently, the LHS Football team is sitting at 0-2, with losses against Turpin and West Clermont. The Tigers are looking to grab their first win at home against Little Miami on Friday, September 18th.

    VOLLEYBALL

    The LHS Women’s Volleyball team is sitting right in the middle of the pack in the ECC with a 4-4 overall record (2-3 in the ECC). On Tuesday, September 8th the Tigers traveled to Turpin. While Loveland battled hard, they ended up losing 25-23, 25-12, winning 22-25,  and losing the final game 25-15. 

    On Wednesday, September 9th Loveland played at home against Lebanon. The Tigers played 3 games losing 25-14, 25-8, and 25-17. On Saturday, September 12th the Lady Tigers came back with a vengeance facing one of the best teams in the GMC, Lakota West, at home. The Tigers played 5 games losing the 1st and 2nd games 23-25, and 20-25.  Loveland than collected 2 wins in the 3rd and 4th games, 25-22, and 25-24. Unfortunately, the Tigers lost in a very close 5th game, 15-13. 

    The LHS Women’s Volleyball team will be back in action this week on Monday, September 14th at home against Little Miami at 6:30 p.m, Tuesday, September 15th at Anderson at 6:30 p.m, and at home against Kings at 6:30 p.m.

    MEN’S SOCCER

    The Loveland Men’s Soccer team played at Milford on Thursday, September 10th. The Tigers ended up losing 2-1 in a close battle. The Tigers are sitting at 3 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie (1-1-0 in the ECC) thus far for the 2020 Fall season.

    The Men’s Soccer Team this week will be hosting Little Miami on Tuesday, September 15th at 7 p.m.

    WOMEN’S SOCCER

    The Loveland Women’s Soccer team has kicked off the 2020 season with a bang sitting at 1st place in the ECC with a 5-0-0 record overall (2-0-0 in the ECC). On Tuesday, September 8th they played Milford at home collecting a 3-0 win! Ryann Eversole, Brooke Hatfield, and Shraya Smolenski all had a goal in the big Tiger win.

    On Saturday, September 12th the Lady Tigers faced Sycamore at home, in which they grabbed another win, 2-1. Leiah Goedde and Brooke Hatfield both had a goal for the Tigers. 

    This week the Loveland Women’s Soccer team will play 3 games, 1 on Tuesday, September 15th at Little Miami at 7 p.m, another on Thursday, September 17th at home against Kings at 7 p.m, and on Saturday, September 19th at Mason at 5 p.m.

    MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

    The Loveland Men’s Cross Country team has had quite the successful season thus far clocking times at the top of the ECC! On Saturday, September 12th the Tigers traveled to Corwin Nixon Park for the Mason Invitational. Loveland finished in 4th place as a team with 116 points. Ryan Chevalier took the gold for the entire invitational finishing in 1st place with a time of 16:14.8. Ajay Stutz was next finishing in 16th place with a time of 17:15.5, followed by Sam Neiger in 22nd place with a time of 17:42.5, then Caden Dyer in 38th place with a time of 18:00.4. The next finisher was Colin Beran in 59th place with a time of 18:31.1, followed by Grant Hanson in 66th place with a time of 18:40.1, then Alex Salatin in 71st place with a time of 18:44.7, and Zach Mays in 79th place with a time of 18:52.1. Rounding out the Tigers was Alex Saletta in 86th place with a time of 18:56.4. 

    Junior Ryan Chevalier’s 1st place performance out of 381 runners at the Mason Invitational gained him an ECC Athlete of the Week Nomination! Chevalier is currently sitting in 2nd place in the ECC with a time of 16:06, in which he ran at the Loveland Invitational on Saturday, September 5th.

    The Men’s Cross Country team will compete again Saturday, September 26th at the Saturday Night Lights Meet at Centerville High school.

    WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY

    The Loveland Women’s Cross Country team is running off the ECC competition this 2020 Fall season with their unbelievable 5k times! The Tigers competed in the Mason Invitational on Saturday, September 12th at Corwin Nixon Park finishing in 2nd place out of 15 teams with 87 points.

    The top finisher for Loveland was Sarah Madix clocking a 2nd place finish with a time of 19:32.6. Ellie Carr finished next in 18th place with a time of 20:43.4, followed by Sophia Huff in 20th place with a time of 20.50.1, and next in 25th place was Ally Colegate with a time of 20:58.4. The next finisher for the Tigers was Ansley Richards in 27th place with a time of 21:01.5, followed by Maaike Snider in 29th place with a time of 21:07.9, and Audrey O’Keefe in 34th place with a time of 21:14.5. Other finishers for the Lady Tigers were Lauren Gard with a time of 21:27.3 and Meghan Tibbs with a time of 21:34.3.

    Junior Sarah Madix was the 2nd Loveland Tiger this week to be nominated for the ECC Athlete of the Week for her performance at the Mason Invitational. Madix not only had the 2nd fastest time out of 347 runners she was also 1 out of only 4 girls to break 20 minutes on the new Mason 5k course.

    Currently, in the ECC several Lady Tigers are sitting in the top 10 for their Loveland Invitational 5k times. Emily Sager is in 2nd place with a time of 18:53.5, Sarah Madix is sitting in 4th place with a time of 19:18.2, and Ellie Carr is in 7th place with a time of 20:04.03.

    The Loveland Women’s Cross Country team will be competing again on Saturday, September 26th at the Saturday Night Lights Meet at Centerville High School.

    MEN’S GOLF

    The Loveland Men’s Golf team has been having a great season as they are sitting at the top of the ECC with a 7-0 record overall (6-0 in the ECC)! On Tuesday, September 8th the Tigers beat Anderson 159-160 at Legendary Golf Course. Over the weekend Loveland competed twice, traveling to Heatherwoode Golf Course on Saturday, September 12th, and to Glenview Golf Course for the Hadley Invitational on Sunday, September 13th. The results for both competitions have yet to be posted on the ECC website.

    Several Tigers are in the top 10 in the ECC for their golf performances! Tyler Vallee is in 2nd place with a 38.36 average, Anthony Moran is in 4th place with a 38.63 average, Joe Jankowski is in 5th place with a 39.09 average, and Matthew Geist is in 9th place with a 40 average.

    The Men’s Golf team will be competing again on Monday, September 14th at Miami Valley Golf Course for the Alter Invitational and on Tuesday, September 15th at Shaker Run Golf Course against Lebanon at 3:30 p.m.

    WOMEN’S GOLF

    The Women’s Golf team, currently 1-4 in the ECC, competed at Harmon Golf Course against Lebanon on Wednesday, September 9th. The Tigers lost 212 to 191. 

    This week the Loveland Women’s Golf team will be traveling to Eagles Nest Golf Course to face Little Miami at 3:24 p.m and then will be heading to Walden Ponds for the ECC Tournament on Thursday, September 17th at 8 a.m.

    WOMEN’S TENNIS

    The Women’s Tennis Team is in 4th place in the ECC with a 10-2 overall record (3-2 in the ECC)! Loveland took on the Mason B Team on Wednesday, September 9th gaining another win, 4-1. Since collecting the Mason win, the Lady Tigers are ranked at the top of the ECC in Singles and Doubles. Maira Hodar is in 4th place in First Singles with a 6-6 overall record (2-3 in the ECC), while Grace Haught is in 6th place in Second Singles with a 9-3 overall record (3-2 in the ECC). Tess Broermann and Hanna Wenger are in 1st place in the ECC in First Doubles with an 11-0 overall record (5-0 in the ECC), while Jenna Batsch and Babs Dwyer are in 1st place in the ECC for Second Doubles with an 11-0 overall record (4-0 in the ECC).

    The Loveland Women’s Tennis Team will be playing 3 times this week! On Monday, September 14th Loveland will be competing against Indian Hill at 4 p.m, then on Tuesday, September 15th at Lebanon at 4 p.m, and on Wednesday, September 16th against St.Ursula at 4 p.m.

    One Tiger Makes it to State, Another Tiger Team Heads to Nationals!

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Athletics has yet again seen several Tiger teams reach their peak as the Winter Sports season comes to an end! Loveland’s Athletic Director, Brian Conaster, made the announcement Monday that Liam Hamill will be competing in the State Championship for Wrestling and the Women’s Indoor Track Team will be competing in the National Championship.

    Senior Liam Hamill wrestled his heart out on Saturday lending him the opportunity to advance to the State Championship Tournament which will take place in Columbus on Friday, March 13th through Sunday, March 15th. Liam finished at the top of the 170 weight class in the ECC with 34 wins, 9 losses, and 23 pins. Check out these photos from over the weekend of Hamill pre and post-victory!

    Loveland’s Women’s Indoor Track Team also made some noise this weekend at the State Tournament placing 13th as a team! Several Lady Tigers competed at the chance to make it to the National Tournament, which will be held in Harlem, New York beginning on Friday, March 13th. Individually Kaitlyn Andrews competed in the 60m dash and the 200m dash, Miya Brines competed in the 60m hurdles and the long jump, Sarah Hallock competed in the 400m dash, Emmy Sager competed in the 3200m run, Megan Korniak competed in the high jump, and Sophia Horrigan competed in the pole vault. The Tigers also competed in the 4x200m relay, which included Miya Brines, Kaitlyn Andrews, Reagan Brunett, and Sarah Hallock, the 4x400m relay, which consisted of Ellie Carr, Ava Westfall, Chloe Smeller, and Sarah Hallock, and the 4x800m relay, which included Ellie Carr, Jessie Gibbins, Sarah Madix, and Ansley Richards.
    After competing like Tigers over the weekend Miya Brines advanced to Nationals in the 60m hurdles and the 4x800m relay team advanced as well! Brines will be racing on Saturday, March 14th while the 4x800m relay squad will compete on Friday, March 13th. Check out the podium shot that was captured of our Lady Tigers on Sunday!
    Conaster was so proud of the Tigers that advanced to the State and National Tournaments that he decided to host a send-off parade at LHS on Wednesday, March 11th, at 2 pm. Conaster reminded teachers to, “Please have your class step into the hallway, outside of your classroom, for the send-off parade. Our student-athletes, their coaches and the drumline will come to every floor starting at 2:00 pm. Please have your class, out in the hallway, to cheer them on! We appreciate your support for these athletes!”

    Loveland, Ohio – It was a packed gym Saturday afternoon at Princeton High School filled with many spirited fans rooting on Loveland’s Women’s Basketball Team as they pushed to win their first District Championship. Although the Lady Tigers didn’t pull off the win, the game itself was still both competitive and exciting!

    The Lady Tigers took on Mount Notre Dame, who were not only ranked number 1 in Ohio’s Division 1 High School Women’s basketball poll they were also ranked #3 in the nation by MaxPreps, as well as being both undefeated and the reigning Ohio Champs!

    Loveland began the 1st quarter focused on shutting down MND’s top scorers and creating opportunities for Jillian Hayes inside the paint. The Tigers managed to achieve their first-quarter goals ending the quarter with a 19-17 lead, a field goal percentage of 40 percent, and they kept MND’s top scorers to single digits. 

    In the 2nd quarter, the Tigers kicked up their defense allowing MND to score only 7 points. Although MND beat Loveland 7-6 in the 2nd quarter, the Lady Tigers capitalized on their free throws, going 6 for 6. Senior Jillian Hayes led the Tigers at the half in points with 8 followed by Freshman Josie Early who tallied up 6 points. Junior Tess Broermann contributed heavily adding on 4 points, 4 assists, and 1 steal. Senior Kate Garry was the top rebounder at the half with 3 and collected 2 assists. 

    After the half, both Loveland and MND turned up the heat! The 3rd quarter seemed to be all about the fast break as most of Loveland’s baskets were either scored on a fast break or a v-cut pass to the basket. With 5:33 left on the clock in the 3rd quarter, the Lady Tigers led by 7 points. MND mirrored Loveland’s effort going 42 percent from the 3 point line and 82 percent from the free-throw line. MND outscored Loveland in the 3rd quarter 18-13, but the score did not reflect Loveland’s tenacity as they not only hustled for every loose ball they also capitalized on the defensive end.

    Going into the 4th quarter the Loveland Tigers had everything to gain and nothing to lose. Loveland pushed until the very last second of the game but unfortunately did not collect the District title. MND outscored the Tigers 19-10 in the 4th quarter making the final score of the game 61-48.

    Loveland fans at the game and at home all agreed that although the Tigers did not win it was still an exciting game and such an honor to see such a great group of women compete. The top performer for Loveland was Jillian Hayes who put up 20 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Following close behind Hayes was Josie Early who collected 11 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and 1 block. The ECC champs ended their season with an impressive 22-4 record.

    Emotions ran high as Loveland lined up to receive their District runner-up medals after the game ended. ECC Coach of the Year Coach Darnell Parker and Loveland’s Athletic Director Brian Conaster handed out the school history-changing medals with a smile and a huge hug to each Lady Tiger. After medals were handed out many of the Lady Tigers ran up to their friends and families to express to them how much they appreciated their support throughout the season. It’s safe to say that the season this particular Loveland High School Women’s Basketball Team had will go down as the best season ever in LHS Women’s Basketball history. 

    Loveland Magazine would like to congratulate the LHS Women’s Basketball Team and the LHS Athletic Department for having such an incredible year! We could not be more proud of everything everyone on the team and staff accomplished. We are truly touched to have had the opportunity to cover such a great basketball program! We wish the women moving on to the play at the college level the best of luck and of course those that still have a couple more years to play for Coach Parker we can’t wait to see what next year brings.     [Video/Photos] Tiger basketball star Jillian Hayes reaches 1,000 points

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Winter sports have kicked their seasons off with a bang! One Tiger team has really made a mark for themselves in the ECC, improving their record to 7-1 with a 7 game winning streak! The Women’s Loveland High school Basketball team is currently at the top of the ECC with several individual Tigers at the top of the conference for their own personal stats, one Tiger, in particular, being senior Jillian Hayes.

    Jillian Hayes and her family on the night she accepted her commemorative 1,000th point ball. The ball was presented on Friday, December 20 during the Men’s basketball against Milford.

    Hayes, a 6’2 forward, reached her 1,000 point milestone at home against Walnut Hills on Saturday, December 7, 2019. Prior to the big game, Hayes needed 27 points to reach her 1,000 points and impressively enough Hayes had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Loveland ended up grabbing the win 78-67! This was the Tigers’ first win over former ECC champs Walnut Hills since the start of the 2016 basketball season. Currently, Hayes is in 4th place in the ECC for points averaging 16.4 per game, 2nd in defensive rebounds averaging 9.1 per game, 2nd in blocks averaging 2.0 per game, and 5th in steals averaging 2.8 per game.

    Since Hayes’ big 1,000 point moment she has had some other very high scoring games. She scored 17 points at Turpin, 23 points at Milford, 15 points at home against Withrow, and 13 points at West Clermont giving her a total now of 1,068 points. Earlier this year Hayes committed to Coach Heard and the Cincinnati Bearcats to continue her already stellar basketball career.

    Jilian Partin was the last Tiger to reach the coveted 1,000 points on December 2, 2004. Partin played for the Loveland Tigers from 2001-2005 under Head Coach Wray Jean Conner. Partin totaled 1,356 points for her beyond impressive high school career. At the time Assistant Varsity Coach, Ken Tracey decided to do some research into the world of the “1,000 point club” and said that fewer than one percent of Ohio high school basketball players, either men or women ever reach 1,000 points in their career!

    Currently, Partin is at the top of the board as the All-Time Leading Scorer in Loveland Women’s Basketball history with 1,356 points. Partin also holds the Loveland Highschool Women’s Basketball record for Most Free Throws made with 329.

    Jillian Hayes is officially 288 points from the All-Time Leading Scorer record! Hayes will get the opportunity to get closer to this memorable accolade on Monday, December 30th at 7:30 PM at St. Ursula.

    Loveland, Ohio – Following quite a successful Fall sports season, Loveland High School Athletics has officially started their Winter sports season and the victories are already rolling in! At the conclusion of the Fall sports season, Loveland High School Athletics still held the top spot for the ECC All-Sports Trophy with a total of 62 points. With all of LHS’s Fall sports successes, it’s safe to say the entire Loveland sports community is more than excited to watch the Winter sports teams grab some wins! Loveland Magazine readers gather around for Part 1 of this week’s Loveland Sports 411 with Cassie Mattia!

    Men’s Basketball

    This week the Men’s Basketball team kicked off their season at Aiken on Tuesday. Although the Tigers lost 58 to 53, they battled for the win until the very end! Ian Cox played quite the game racking up 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Many Tigers contributed to the season opener such as Alec Soth, who added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, Brenton Foust, who scored 9 points and grabbed 3 rebounds, and Aaron Krabacher, who had 9 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.

    The Men’s Basketball Team collected a big win against Anderson at home on Friday! The entire Tiger team fought hard for their first ECC win, with a score of 46 to 34. Loveland’s Collin Hedgepeth had 11 points and 3 rebounds, Brenton Foust collected 16 points and 3 assists, and Aaron Krabacher added 8 points to the final score.

    Loveland Men’s Basketball Team will be back in action on Tuesday at 7:30 PM at Kings and then again on Friday at Walnut Hills at 7:30 PM.

    Women’s Basketball

    The Loveland Tiger’s Women’s Basketball Team had quite a successful week grabbing 2 big ECC wins! On Wednesday the Tiger’s took on Kings at home winning 57 to 22, and on Saturday gained another win at home against Walnut Hills, 78 to 67. With the Tigers, two ECC wins this week that puts them at 3-0 in the ECC and 3-1 overall making the Tigers 2nd in the ECC. Several of the Tigers were recognized for their accomplishments this week! Below are some of the accolades the Women’s Team collected!

    The Women’s Basketball Team put up some impressive stats at both the Kings and Walnut Hills games! Jenna Batsch had 16 points and 8 steals against Kings while Jillian Hayes added 13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals and Tess Broermann had 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 steals. The Tiger’s didn’t stop their impressive stats there, they also put up some great numbers against Walnut Hills including Jillian Hayes putting up her 1,000th point! Hayes put up 27 points and 10 rebounds while her teammate Kate Garry put up 21 points, 5 of those baskets coming from the 3 point line, and her other teammate Tess Broermann put up 12 points and 5 steals.     The Loveland Women’s Basketball Team will play again on Wednesday at Turpin at 7:30 PM and then again at Milford Saturday at 2 PM.

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Fall sports have been running away with ECC titles left and right, but one team in particular actually did “run away” with the ECC title! The Loveland High school Women’s Cross Country is marking one of their best seasons in history not only winning the 2019 ECC title but also continuing well into the post-season where the Lady Tigers will compete for a bid to the State Tournament on Saturday at Troy High School.

    2019 Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Steve Nester has also managed to lead the Men’s Cross Country Team to regionals on Saturday. With all of the great athletes running around the halls of Loveland High School Loveland Magazine had to, of course, take another trip out to the land of the Tigers to chase down and chat with the Women’s Cross Country Team about their season of personal bests!     Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Tiger athletes continue to represent Loveland High School with flying colors earning yet again another 2019 ECC title – this time the Boys Soccer Team! Coach Mike Dunlap and his team of dedicated soccer players went undefeated in the ECC with a 7-0 record, competed in the sectional finals and grabbed some top coach, team, and individual ECC accolades.

    Loveland, Ohio – It’s no secret that Loveland High school is succeeding in athletics as 5 Fall sports teams have now grabbed an ECC title this year. The Loveland High school Girls Tennis Team, whose last ECC title came in 2012, was 1 of the 5 teams to earn a 2019 ECC title and the lady tigers along with Coach Dara Hudson couldn’t be more proud of their successful season!

With a 15-2 record overall and a 6-1 record in the ECC Coach Hudson couldn’t stress enough why it couldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication put in by each and every one of the girls!     Loveland celebrated Tigers State Champion Soccer Team with ring ceremony

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School (LHS) and the Loveland Athletic Boosters joined Tiger Nation in celebrating the success of the Tigers State Champion Soccer Team with a State Championship Ring Ceremony Friday, May 4, in the LHS Gym. The Loveland Athletic Boosters purchased the championship rings for the entire team and coaches.

    “We are proud to celebrate our 2017 Lady Tigers State Champion Soccer Team and their historic accomplishments,” said Athletic Director Brian Conatser. “This season is a product of competing with excellence every day, overcoming adversity and countless hours of hard work. The Loveland community is remarkably proud of the way these student-athletes represent themselves with Respect, Responsibility, Integrity and Pride. It was an honor and privilege to recognize these student-athletes and their achievements! Go Tigers!”

    A Tiger Resolution for the New Year

    The BIG headline for the district in November was the incredible success of our State Champion Lady Tigers Soccer Team – WOW!

    To be a part of our Tiger Family during this outstanding accomplishment by our amazing student-athletes has been an absolute highlight of my time here in Loveland! While we all know how the final game turned out – I wonder how many of you have heard the story behind the making of that winning headline? It’s a story about goals that were set… by the Lady Tigers… while at Camp Kern… BEFORE the season began.

    I’m sure that you can guess their top goal was to win that state title that has eluded them the two previous seasons. That is not the part that has me eager to sit down with the champions and Coach Kelly and learn more.

    As a team, the athletes identified what their individual game stats would need to be if they were going to win.

    What really caught my attention were the eight goals the team set to achieve leading up to the state victory finale. Eight goals that strategically led to the state title win. As a team, the athletes identified what their individual game stats would need to be if they were going to win. Each team member understood what they needed to do for the team to maintain the consistency of elite performance that would advance the mission of the team.  

    And they did it.

    In a big, awesome, Tiger kinda way.

    In fact – those student-athletes achieved EVERY goal they set for the season.

    I call that amazing… and, an inspiration – I hope to us all.

    As we collectively close the book on the year 2017, many of us will look to the New Year with new goals in mind.

    As the educational leader of this district – I can assure you that our Tiger Family is keeping our eyes on the target for our own story of success. We are staying focused on the “big three” goals we set for this 2017-18 academic year: Growth, Innovation, and Care.

    Just like our State Champion student-athletes – from our building secretaries, to our teachers, from our bus drivers, to our food service professionals, from our administrators to our custodial staff, and with our Board of Education leading the way – we are all focused on the success of the students who we are privileged to serve.

    Students who have learned what it takes to be the best of the best.

    Please join our Board of Education in recognizing the outstanding achievement of our Lady Tigers 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Board of Education Business Meeting (Loveland Intermediate School Media Center). The Loveland Athletic Department will induct the entire 2017 Lady Tigers Soccer Team into our Loveland High School Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of our Tiger basketball games vs. Kings Friday, Dec. 15. And, our Loveland Athletic Boosters are generously going to purchase State Championship rings for our student-athletes and coaches. When the rings come in, we will organize a public ring ceremony event, where all are welcome.
