    Loveland High School Students receive many regional scholastic art awards

    Loveland, Ohio – Congratulations to the following LHS Art Students for their record amount of awards in the 2025 Scholastic Art Awards. All Gold Key Awarded artwork will now be judged at the National level.

    Receiving Gold Key Awards: Piper Schaeffer (Portfolio), Ronan Wolfer, David Lorek, Bella Rogers, Jackson Manly, and Andrew Sichak.

    Receiving Silver Key Awards: Andrew Sichak (Portfolio), David Lorek, Harrison Hentz, Sohani Gauniyal, Madeline Spencer, Jackson Manly, Logan Shiverski, and Ronan Wolfer.

    Receiving Honorable Mention: Cameran Cook, Chase Dahlke, Brooke Freytag, Harrison Hentz, Luke Jacobs, David Lorek, Jackson Manly, Cass McKnight, Brooke Morris, Bella Rogers, Norah Schmidt, Logan Shiverski, Andrew Sichak, Madeline Spencer, and Ronan Wolfer.

    The annual Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running recognition initiative for creative students (grades 7-12) and the largest source of scholarships for young artists and writers. The Art Academy of Cincinnati (AAC) is producing the Regional Scholastic Art and Writing Awards of Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana on their urban campus in historic Over-the-Rhine.

    The Exhibition Opening is Friday, February 7th from 5PM until – 8PM. The Exhibit is open to the public and continues thru February 16th, 9AM until 9PM at the Art Academy of Cincinnati, 1212 Jackson Street in  Cincinnati.

    Jamie Brown and MacKenzie Liu named Semifinalists in National Merit Scholarship Program

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Seniors Jamie Brown and MacKenzie Liu have been named Semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. According to a statement issued by the District, the students, “…earned this honor for their high academic achievement and exemplary scores on their pre-SAT tests.” About 16,000 students nationwide are recognized as National Merit Semifinalists, representing less than 1% of high school seniors.

    “Congratulations to Jamie, MacKenzie, and their families for this amazing accomplishment. Loveland High School is proud to shine a light on their amazing work, and we can’t wait to see what awesome things they accomplish in the future,” LHS Principal Dave Spencer said.

    Press Release continued by saying, “The National Merit Scholarship Program honors academically talented US high school students and stimulates support for their education. National Merit Semifinalists can advance in competition to become National Merit Finalists and qualify for National Merit Scholarships, corporate-sponsored scholarships, and college-sponsored scholarships.”

    “Jamie and MacKenzie have accomplished something that will help set them on a fantastic path for the future. Student success is the number one goal of our #beLOVEland Strategic Vision, and our Loveland Tiger students couldn’t be successful without amazing support from their families, our staff, and our community,” Superintendent Mike Broadwater said.

    Cruse will become Tight Ends Coach for the Miami RedHawks

    Loveland, Ohio – This past Wednesday, Loveland leaned the bittersweet news that head football coach Andy Cruse would be departing to assume the role of tight ends coach for the Miami RedHawks in Oxford, Ohio. Cruse had been the head coach of the Tigers for five years after stints at Moeller and Turpin, which was his alma mater.

    2023 was Loveland’s best year under Cruse. They finished 5-6 and there was a lot of hope that perhaps the team could improve on that going into 2024. It was their best record since going 6-4 in 2015. Overall, Cruse was 12-37 at the helm of the Tigers’ program, which ran from 2019-2024. After quite a few struggles following winning the state title in 2013, he lead the team to two straight postseason births.

    Cruse will be returning to his former college team. He was a wide receiver for the RedHawks and a co-captain in his senior year. Coach Cruse also had a good amount of NFL experience, playing for the Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings.

    All of Loveland wishes Coach Cruse the best and that he has success at Miami. But for now it is an exciting time for Loveland football as it searches for its next head coach. At the moment, defensive coordinator AJ Williams and special teams coordinator Brian Damewood are the interim co-coaches. This writer was honored enough to play for Coach Damewood during his brief but happy career with the Tigers from 1999-2003 and so the program is in the best of hands moving forward.

    While coaching searches are never easy, the opportunity to take the reins at a solid program like Loveland will no doubt attract very qualified candidates. Loveland athletic director Jayson Bruce has a great opportunity for to secure the future of this program by making a great hire, and this city looks forward to a new chapter in Loveland football history.

    Loveland High School cheerleaders do well at National High School Cheerleading Championship

    Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland High School Game Day Competition team competed at the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) National High School Cheerleading Championship in Florida.

    “Not only did they get the fantastic experience of competing against the best cheerleading teams in the country, they represented Loveland in an amazing way.”

    The LHS Game Day Competition Team finished second in the nation in the Varsity DII-Non-Building-Game Day Division. This is the first time in school history that our cheerleaders made the finals, and it marks the highest point total and highest finish in LHS history.

    Cheerleaders competing were: Maddie Brankamp, Emma Breese, Peyton Bryant, Averi Case, Cameran Cook, Maddie Crawford, Kayla Docherty, Dani Hildebrand, Crystal Garcia, Lily Gruffydd, Ava Higley, Emma Loggins, Molly Moore, Brooke Morris, Janson Nichols, Katie Oaks, Auri Ray, Reagan Shadron, Celia Sovik, Peyton Sprankles, and Payton Weikert.

    Their coaches are Catie Smeyne and Emily Master.

    Loveland High School Named to “Best Schools” List by US News and World Report

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School has been named to the “Best Schools” list by US News and World Report. Loveland High School (LHS) is ranked #35 among Ohio High Schools and #11 within the Cincinnati Metro Area.

    “Congratulations to our students and their families – because every accolade for our district starts with hard work and dedication at home. Thank you to our fantastic staff, who do their best every day to help students succeed,” Superintendent Mike Broadwater said.

    “We worked with our community to establish our #beLOVEland Strategic Vision, and Student Success is the #1 goal. The support of our community makes Loveland a special place, and recognition like this is only possible because of that continuing support,” Broadwater said.

    Loveland High School moved up from last year when US News and World Report ranked LHS #45 in Ohio and #12 in the Cincinnati Metro Area.

    Loveland, Ohio – On July 14, 2023 as the sun was about to set a mom and dad taxi stand, a granite, laser-engraved bench was dedicated at the lower entrance to the Loveland High School outdoor athletic complex. The family of Josh Carrington wanted to honor his all-too-brief life and thank the School District for the myriad ways he was nurtured while he attended Loveland High School.

    Family brainstorming led to the vision of a commemorative bench that would give athletes a place to sit in the shade while waiting for a ride home after practice or competition.

    In this LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video, you can watch the dedication ceremony and listen to fond memories of Josh from family members. A former Tiger classmate, a teammate of Josh is interviewed. Amy Van Strien, a former District psychologist talked about how involved Josh was in helping her with her programming. There was rock painting, the release of paper balloons, and many hugs.

    The painted rocks will be placed beneath the tree next to the Angles by the Trail mural in downtown Loveland.

    Josh graduated from Loveland High School with the class of 2010. Over those four years, Josh participated in football, track (pole vaulting), and wrestling. He was nicknamed “Josh the Spladle” for his wrestling moves.

    Josh was also on the Homecoming Court his Senior Year. Josh passed in 2015.

    Prom season is here and many of us are busy helping prepare the Juniors and Seniors for what will be a memorable event. Loveland High School’s Prom is this Saturday, May 13th.

    Pinning the corsages and boutonnieres, smiling for photos taken by misty-eyed parents – we all remember these traditions.

    What may be a new tradition for some families is After Prom.

    What exactly is After Prom? As it says in the name, it is an event following Prom, where the kids can continue their celebration in a fun, safe way without alcohol and drugs.

    This year’s After Prom is scheduled for this Saturday from 11:30 PM until 2:30 AM am at Loveland High School.

    All Loveland Junior and Senior attendees, and the dates of those who attend Prom, will win a door prize when they arrive at After Prom. The school will be transformed into a luau, complete with an inflatable surfboard, henna tattoo artist, and a balloon artist! Everything is included in the ticket price of $20.

    A variety of teenager-approved food will be provided due to the generous donations of LaRosa’s, Skip’s Bagels, Dunkin, The Works, Subway, Gigi’s Cupcakes, Sweet Bliss Treats, and Cinemark popcorn.

    Many local businesses have donated amazing prizes such as Perfect North, The Cincinnati Reds, Loveland Canoe and Kayak, Paxon’s, King’s Island, Dewey’s Pizza, LHS Athletics, Graeter’s, FC Cincinnati, Eastgate Lanes, The Cincinnati Zoo, The Fowling Warehouse, Altitude Trampoline Park, Dunkin, Whipty Do, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Candado Tacos, Le Peep, McAlister’s, Rusty Bucket, Joella’s Hot Chicken, deSha’s, Qdoba, Bibibop, Frutta Bowls, Blaze Pizza, Tano, Taziki’s, Wynn Nail Spa, El Picante, Rodi, LaRosa’s, Tahona, Ramsey’s, and Bishop’s Quarter.

    Oh, and you can’t forget the petting zoo. Yes, there will be animals roaming the halls of Loveland High School, and we’re not talking about the teenagers!

    Town Hall called to discuss 4.9 mill Loveland operating levy

    Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland City School District will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, April 25, at 6 PM in the Media Center at Loveland Intermediate School. In his April 19 “Schools Update” Superintendent Mike Broadwater said, “The purpose of this Town Hall is to provide a forum for our Loveland City Schools community to ask questions about the upcoming 4.9 mill operating levy on the ballot on May 2.”

    The Town Hall will include the Superintendent, Treasurer Rob Giuffre’ and two members of the Board of Education. It will not be an official meeting of the Board. The Superintendent’s newsletter did not specify which board members will participate in the discussions.

    Only in-person attendees can participate with questions or comments. After the meeting, the live stream recording will be available on the Board of Education YouTube channel.

    During the Town Hall, Broadwater said, “We will work to take questions or comments from as many participants as possible to foster conversation around these important issues.”

    Drew Plitt has been with the Arlington Renegades since day one, but his past success is what has brought him here to the XFL as one of the few rookie quarterbacks.

    Plitt went to high school in Loveland, Ohio where he played quarterback for the Tigers. His biggest achievement at Loveland was leading the school to the 2013 Division II state title which was the school’s first state championship ever. In 2015, he threw for over 1,400 yards with 15 passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in ten games. He was the team captain and was honorable mention all-district as a senior.

    While deciding which college to go to, Plitt had offers from Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, and Lafayette. In the end, he decided to pick Ball State as the college of his choice. His former high school head coach Fred Cranford told Cincinnati.com what kind of quarterback the school was going to get.

    “Drew’s quarterback style and talent will allow him to be crazy successful there. Ball State is getting a championship, high character quarterback. Ball State loves his talent and style, his leadership and quarterback intangibles.”

    In his first year in college back in 2016, Plitt was redshirted for the season as a freshman. The next year in 2017, he started the season as the fourth quarterback on the depth chart. Due to injuries to the quarterback position, Plitt was forced into action and played in the last five games of the season starting three of them. He finished his first season with 430 passing yards and three touchdowns along with three interceptions. Plitt also ran for 29 yards and one touchdown in the season.
