It has been one month since I communicated with you in a formal way about Tiger Safety; at that time I was reacting as interim superintendent to the sadness we all felt in Tiger Nation to the news of the February 14 fatal school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Since that event, I have heard from many of you with questions about safety. As such, I wanted to bring you up-to-speed on the work we have been involved in.

Immediately following the February 14 event, after our buildings had a chance to review safety procedures, the district sent a comprehensive safety survey to our Tiger Staff. This survey created an opportunity for every employee – secretaries, teachers, administrators, food service professionals, transportation, custodial professionals and paraprofessionals – to tell senior leaders very directly what opportunities we, as a district, had to enhance the safety of our campus.
Monday, March 12, safety experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Greater Cincinnati Fusion Center, and Loveland Police Chief Sean Rahe conducted a safety assessment of our buildings.

Additionally, we have collected the comments we have received from parents – from social media posts to emails to Board meetings – and all of those concerns were categorized and presented to a special meeting of our District Safety Committee Thursday, March 15. This was the opportunity for our core team to talk through the suggestions with our community’s professional emergency responders to begin to develop a plan of action with clear priorities.
As the superintendent of the Loveland City School District, what I want you to know is this: We aren’t just listening – we are taking action. The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for our Board of Education. It is a top priority for me as your educational leader.

Board of Education makes official decision at March 15 Special Meeting
Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland City School District has announced the search for the permanent superintendent of Loveland School District is complete; in a unanimous vote the Loveland Board of Education made official their selection of Dr. Amy Crouse as the new educational leader at the March 15 Special Meeting.
“The Board of Education, working with the Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA), found the best of the best candidates to interview, and sought feedback from the administrative team, the Tiger staff and the Loveland community before making this decision; we feel confident in our choice to name Dr. Amy Crouse as our new superintendent,” said Loveland Board of Education President Art Jarvis in a statement issued to the press. “During her tenure as interim superintendent, Dr. Crouse has worked tirelessly to ensure the district continued to focus efforts on enhancing the experience for our students. We know she is the perfect leader to push forward our key initiatives of Tiger academic growth, Tiger innovation and Tiger care.”
Crouse joined the Loveland administration as the assistant superintendent of teaching and learning in August of 2014; she came to the district with 21 years of education experience on her resume. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in elementary education in 1990, her master’s in education administration from the University of Cincinnati (UC) in 1997, and her doctorate of education from UC in 2012, where she served as an adjunct professor in educational leadership in 1998, 2000, and 2010-2014. She began serving students as a teacher in 1993 at schools in Illinois, then North Carolina, before taking an administrative role as an assistant principal for West Clermont Local Schools in Cincinnati (1997) and then principal for that same district (1999). She moved to the Princeton City School District to serve as curriculum coordinator (2004), director of curriculum and instruction (2008) and served that district as associate superintendent (2012-2014).
In addition, Dr. Crouse has been a featured conference presenter and contributing author to multiple publications, according to the press release issued by the District.
“It is humbling to have the privilege to serve my Tiger Family in this role,” said Crouse in the statement. “With the full support of the Board of Education, we are laying the ground work right now for advancements in the student experience that will game-change the way this district does business, and I couldn’t be more excited to continue to collaborate with our Tiger staff and our Loveland community to make it happen. It is an exciting time to be a Tiger!”
“Dr. Crouse is a proven educational leader,” added Jarvis. “Her accomplishments within our district are already outstanding – from developing a strategic plan to include our classroom educational leaders in researching and investing in the best teaching tools for our students, to bringing innovative learning to our classrooms, to growing our academic programs with a partnership with the University of Cincinnati just this year – she has already enhanced our student experience. The Board of Education is excited to support her leadership in accomplishing our vision.”

If only educating our young people were as simple as plugging in coordinates on a GPS, then every graduate would know exactly what he/she wants to do after high school and have a defined plan detailing how to get there.
Well, Tiger Family… meet your new GPS: Academic Pathways.
Think of Academic Pathways as guiding maps for our students as they explore personal career interests and make connections to their course sequencing beginning in middle school. The district has clearly defined Academic Pathways for careers in: Arts, Audio/Video Technology and Communication; Business Management and Administration; Health Science; Information Technology (in partnership with University of Cincinnati); and Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics – with the phase-in of additional pathways in the 2018-2019 school year.
The Academic Pathways contain information about which courses are available at the middle school and high school that, in addition to meeting the core requirements, will be helpful in pursuing the chosen pathway. They also provide suggestions about opportunities for extended learning, such as job shadowing/mentoring and internship placements, as well as links to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ updated information about the various professions within the Academic Pathway. For instance, the Academic Pathway for business will tell you what courses you could take in middle school through graduation, and then define the career with sample job choices complete with expected pay.
So, how do Tigers access this rich data?
With the expansion of Naviance, a college/career readiness tool, into grades six-eight, students will begin their college/career planning. This spring, sixth-grade students will explore various careers in the system and begin to create goals for themselves that will be refined throughout their educational experience in grades seven-12, as students will be revisiting their electronic portfolio in Naviance every year. By beginning Naviance work at the middle school, our students will have a greater opportunity in high school for more in-depth explorations and planning as they continue to make more detailed post-secondary plans.
Our buildings will equip parents with information to set up a special parent account in Naviance to share in this cutting-edge student journey.
Educating our Tigers is not as simple as plugging in set coordinates to find their set direction – we know this, but with parents and the school working together through assisting our students in making the connection between their academics and their passions, we can better support their post-secondary planning, and grow college and career-ready Tigers.

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Board of Education plans to hold a special meeting at 6 PM Thursday, March 15, at the Loveland Intermediate School Media Center for the purpose of nominating and selecting the new superintendent of the Loveland City School District. In February, the Board announced three finalists for the position who each met with the administrative team, staff, and with the Loveland community.
The new superintendent’s official duties will begin August 1. The vacancy is the result of the resignation of Chad Hilliker that was effective on July 31, 2017. At that time, Dr. Amy Crouse took over as interim superintendent for the district, and she continues to lead in that capacity.

There is nothing quite like at the end of a long day coming home to hug my three kiddos. Following the horrific unfolding of the February 14 fatal high school shooting in Florida – those hugs were a bit tighter at my house, as I’m sure they were in yours. We love our children – all of them, and we want nothing but the best for them, and at the Loveland City School District – that starts with safety.
Today, all of our buildings reviewed safety procedures.
Today, all of our buildings emailed parents to let them know who to call with questions.
Today, the Loveland Police Department provided increased presence at our buildings.
“But, I’m sure in your mind you ask: What about tomorrow? And, the day after that… and the day after that.”

What I will tell you is that Tiger Safety is always on our minds as administrators, teachers, staff – and with the full support of our Loveland Board of Education. It is always evolving, always improving, and often reviewed by our District Safety Committee. We have pulled together a comprehensive resource for our Tiger families to dive a little deeper into how we are trained and the resources we have to keep our district safe.

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School (LHS) has announced that District Director of Student Athletics Julie Renner has accepted a position with FinalForms, a national athletic management solution company, and her final day will be March 2.
“I would not be telling the truth if I said this was an easy decision; the last four and a half years I have spent at Loveland have been a blessing,” said Renner. “My husband took a new position at Marshall University this past summer, moving our family home to West Virginia. Therefore, I have accepted this new position so we can live together as a family.
“Loveland High School is a wonderful school, in an outstanding district and community. I cannot say enough about the caring school staff and coaching staff that I have been privileged to work with over these past four years. Moreover, the parents, adults and Booster organizations who work so hard to support this school to make it the best place for not just a few kids but for all students. I will miss the students so much. They hold a special place in my heart and many memories which will be forever stamped in my mind.”
“We often say, ‘Once a Tiger, always a Tiger’ and this is certainly true of our feelings for Mrs. Renner,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “We – the administration, the staff and the students – will certainly miss the spirit she has brought to this role, but we are also so excited for this unique professional opportunity for her.”
Renner has served the district in the position of director of student athletics since 2013, and has helped manage a state champion football team, a state champion wrestler, and a state champion womens soccer team during her tenure.
“I would like to extend my gratitude to the Board of Education, the Loveland Athletic Boosters, the Athletic Department and the entire administrative team,” said Renner. “I would like to thank everyone for making my work environment enjoyable and giving me the opportunity to work with students every day. I greatly appreciate all of your support and guidance over the tenure of my employment.”

Hello Tiger Family!
My name is Johnnie Kanoza, and I am the new Loveland City School District program coordinator for Loveland Educating Against Alcohol & Drugs, or – as we like to call it – LEAAD. This group, formally known as the Loveland Drug Task Force is in a transitional pilot year, but with the same commitment to stand – school and community – united as one to bring positive impact to our students.

I have a true passion for health and wellness, with more than 10 years of professional experience in personal training and health coaching; in addition to my exciting new role with LEAAD, I am also the owner of Empowher Fitness Studio, focusing on women’s health.
From youth obesity to eating disorders, from alcohol consumption to drug use – addiction can present itself in many ways. As parents, we also have seen how social media has influenced behaviors and perceptions – one being a strong desire for instant gratification.
In Loveland, with LEAAD – we are looking for opportunities to educate both parents and students to inspire the desire for true change.

If we can start this process when the need arises it can change the life direction for our students in a positive way. The key is to create habits today that will set a solid foundation and build confidence in better decision making.
I am a wife and a stepmom to three beautiful adult children. I have experienced first-hand the concerns of many unknowns that come with raising great adults. Through this and our personal journey together I developed a desire to help impact more young adult lives.
This opportunity gives me the ability to do just that.

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland City School District convened for their annual Organizational Meeting Thursday, Jan. 11, to elect new officers and establish the 2018 meeting calendar. Prior to voting, newly elected Board Members Ned Portune and Eileen Washburn were officially sworn in, along with re-elected Board Member Michele Pettit.
The Board established 2018 leadership, electing Art Jarvis as president, and Dr. Kathryn Lorenz as vice president. In addition, the Board of Education appointed the following Board of Education members as
committee representatives for the 2018 calendar year:
The Board also voted to conduct regular monthly business meetings for Calendar Year 2018 on the third Tuesday of each month unless otherwise noted* at 6 PM in the Media Center of the Loveland Intermediate School. Additional meetings during the month can be designated by the Board of Education at a time and place properly announced.
* No regular meetings are scheduled for July or December.
