Loveland, Ohio – Last week during Women’s and Men’s basketball games students, staff, families, and community groups brought awareness to mental health issues. The theme was “Teal Out”. My Fave Five, The Ben Morrison Fund, and Loveland High School’s Hope Squad brought resources and awareness to their mental health initiatives.

The Ben Morrision Fund proudly says, “We are dedicated to erasing the stigma of mental health struggles, opening conversations, and offering lifelines to help save lives of young people in crisis.”

MY FAVE FIVE is a mental wellness tool, in the form of a mobile app, which helps individuals identify, connect and build relationships with trusted people in their life. It was created by Loveland mom Gina Marek.

Loveland’s Hope Squad uses faculty advisors and trusted peers to identify students at risk for suicidal ideation and behavior, and ultimately, to save lives. The groups also brought attention to the new 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

The mental health initiative carried over when the Men’s team played at Lebanon High School on Friday evening.

Loveland, Ohio – Eight games into the season the Tiger Men (2-3, 5-3) stand in 5th place in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC). Leading the Tigers in scoring is 11th grader Brayden Frietch averaging 11.5 points per game. Close behind is 11th grader Jack Sauer averaging 11.4. Both Frietch and Sauer have scored 12 three-pointers.

The Women are 3-3, 5-3, and Leading the Women are Senior forward Olivia Raby averaging 10.6, and Senior guard Josie Early averaging 10. The Women are in 7th place in the ECC.

[VIDEO] A national ritual: 5 LHS Student-Athletes on “National Signing Day”

Loveland, Ohio – On November 9th the weather outside was more Summeresque than almost winter. Inside the Chuck Schmidt Auditorium at Loveland High School, the reception for student-athletes was even warmer as proud parents, school staff, coaches, and fellow athletes gathered to witness the signing of letters of intent to further academic and athletic careers at institutions of higher learning.

Coats for Kids: Warm winter gear for children in Loveland

Loveland, Ohio – Allison Spitzley, a junior at Loveland High School, is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award project, which is creating the annual program, Coats for Kids. The goal of this program, which is through the LIFE Food Pantry, is to provide children of LIFE clients with warm winter gear.

They are collecting donations of new or gently used coats, hats, mittens/gloves, scarves, socks, and winter boots for all ages (infant – adult).

Today, approximately 10.5% of Loveland’s population is under the poverty line. Studies show nearly 60% of Americans will directly experience poverty at some point during their adulthood. That means that these families are having to make tough choices on which necessities are needed the most – rent, utilities, food, clothing. All kids should have a carefree childhood and not have to worry about how to stay warm during the winter. Giving a child a brand new winter gear instills confidence and improves their overall wellness to help them thrive and achieve their goals.

We’re having a birthday party for Coach Parker

Birthday Basketball for Darnell

The birthday of Darnell Parker, the beloved Loveland High School woman’s head basketball coach is coming up in November, and his friend and team photographer Gayle Rothmeeler wanted to do something special for him. Coach Parker died after a long struggle with cancer this past July.

This is the plan…

In honor of Darnell’s Birthday, she would like us to collectively play basketball for the 24 hours of his birthday. It will be broken down into 1-hour segments so that throughout the entire day of his birthday there is someone playing basketball to remember him. This will all take place on November 26.

1. BASKETBALL– for the 24 hours of his birthday on November 26, have people sign up for 1-hour increments to play basketball in his honor. You can shoot hoops in your backyard etc. This can be done on an individual basis, so his family and friends all over can participate. I set up a sign up genius for those that are willing to take an hour. During “your hour” I hope that you can take a picture and tag him on social media so we can all see everyone celebrating and playing basketball for him. 2. Tee Shirts– I created a shirt with his favorite slogan “our way”. They are being sold for $10, with $5 being donated to the scholarship fund that Alexis and Madison, his daughters created. 3. DONATIONS– There is an additional option on the t-shirt link to donate to his scholarship fund. Again, $5 from each shirt will go there, but if you would like to donate additional money, that is an easy way to do so. The scholarship will support a Loveland High School student-athlete pursuing a college education who values giving back to their community and has a personal story with cancer.

Only one thing stopped six-for-six Bengal rookie Drew Plitt Friday…

Cincinnati, Ohio – The only thing that stopped six-for-six Bengal rookie Drew Plitt Friday night at the 2022 pre-season opener in the newly renamed Paycor Stadium was when he found the endzone via a 25 yd. floater to wide-receiver Kendric Pryor. Plitt threw for 77 yds with a perfect rating of 158.33. Plitt completed the Bengals’ first touchdown in Paycor Stadium history.

The Arizona Cardinals defeated Cicinnati 36-20.

Speaking about Joe Burrows and which backup quarterback will get another chance, Geoff Hobson said on Bengals.com, “If it is, Plitt, the suburban Cincinnati product from Loveland, went storybook. He threw the Bengals’ first touchdown in Paycor Stadium history. He hit all six passes as a Bengal for a perfect 158.3 passer rating. He threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Kendric Pryor, his first in the NFL, too.” Hobson also said, “it seems inevitable Plitt may have played his last game for his hometown team.”

“Just excitement. Thrill. For me, it’s a dream come true,” Plitt said on bengals.com. “I know it’s a cliché, but I’m going to say it all the time. Growing up in this city and being able to come to work every day, and it’s really not a job if you look at it the way I am. It’s awesome.”

In his post-game press conference Head Coach, Zac Taylor said it was as big a crowd as he’s ever seen for a pre-season home opener. “Probably the best I’ve ever been around. It’s awesome. It really is. You could feel the energy and excitement.”

Plitt (6-2, 206), a rookie out of Ball State University, played in 46 career games for the Cardinals with 36 starts and completed 777 of 1246 passes (62.4 percent) for 9062 yards and 68 TDs. He also rushed for 423 yards and 14 TDs.

Plitt, who participated at the Bengals’ rookie minicamp in May as a tryout player, is from Loveland, Ohio, and played at Loveland High School, where he set a school record for career TD passes (42) and in 2013 led the team to a 14-0 record and the Ohio Division II state championship.
