    Police Officer Angela Smallwood to serve as SRO at Loveland City Schools

    Loveland, Ohio – Police Officer Angela Smallwood has been assigned the official role of School Resource Officer (SRO) at the Loveland City School District. Smallwood, who remains an employee of the Loveland Police Department, will serve full-time as SRO on the Loveland Middle School/Intermediate School campus.

    “We are very excited to have Officer Smallwood join us, and it adds yet another level of protection in our overall district safety plan,” said District Superintendent Dr. Amy Crouse. “We are grateful for the ongoing and deepening relationship with the police department, which not only allowed us to add Officer Smallwood this year, but also SRO Jesse Moore to Loveland High School last year. This is a big win for all students and staff at the Loveland City School District.”

    Officer Smallwood came to Loveland in 2006 and is certified in bike patrol and as a field training officer.

    Xavier Cintas Center- Cincinnati, OH- Sunday, May 26th: a day students and parents alike anticipated for thirteen years. 12:30pm: a canopy of 365 black caps and orange tassels filed into rows along the floor of the Xavier University Cintas Center. As the Loveland class of 2019 slipped into their alphabetical-order seats, students shared glances of equal glee and nervous anticipation.

    Students and parents were greeted by a full string/brass orchestra of Loveland non-seniors, a multi-class performance unusual in years past. Band teacher Geoff Miller conducted a many-minute rendition of Pomp and Circumstance.

    Soon after the Loveland class of 2019 was seated, class representative Jordan Morrison offered a welcome. Class representative Meghan Lolli introduced guests and lead The National Anthem, followed by class president Jackson Tyler Popp’s presidential address.

    Between speeches, Loveland’s 2019 choral Senior Ensemble sang Irish Blessing, a long-running tradition. Hannah Ackley followed the performance with her salutatory address.

    Tiger Safety Update from the Superintendent

    It has been one month since I communicated with you in a formal way about Tiger Safety; at that time I was reacting as interim superintendent to the sadness we all felt in Tiger Nation to the news of the February 14 fatal school shooting in Parkland, Fla. Since that event, I have heard from many of you with questions about safety. As such, I wanted to bring you up-to-speed on the work we have been involved in.

    Immediately following the February 14 event, after our buildings had a chance to review safety procedures, the district sent a comprehensive safety survey to our Tiger Staff. This survey created an opportunity for every employee – secretaries, teachers, administrators, food service professionals, transportation, custodial professionals and paraprofessionals – to tell senior leaders very directly what opportunities we, as a district, had to enhance the safety of our campus.

    Monday, March 12, safety experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Greater Cincinnati Fusion Center, and Loveland Police Chief Sean Rahe conducted a safety assessment of our buildings.

    Monday, March 12, safety experts from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the Greater Cincinnati Fusion Center, and Loveland Police Chief Sean Rahe conducted a safety assessment of our buildings, so they could also make recommendations on how we could improve security.

    Additionally, we have collected the comments we have received from parents – from social media posts to emails to Board meetings – and all of those concerns were categorized and presented to a special meeting of our District Safety Committee Thursday, March 15. This was the opportunity for our core team to talk through the suggestions with our community’s professional emergency responders to begin to develop a plan of action with clear priorities.

    As the superintendent of the Loveland City School District, what I want you to know is this: We aren’t just listening – we are taking action. The safety and security of our students and staff is a top priority for our Board of Education. It is a top priority for me as your educational leader.

    Loveland Homecoming Parade is next Thursday

    Loveland School Resource Officer Fred Barnes named Grand Marshall of Homecoming Parade

    Barnes was the first school resource officer to serve in the Loveland Schools

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland Police and School Resource Officer, Fred Barns will be the Grand Marshall of the Loveland Boosters’ 2017 Homecoming Parade.

    The parade will be Thursday, Oct 5 at 6:30 PM. The Homecoming Game is Friday, Oct 6 at 7 PM vs Walnut Hills Eagles

    Barns announced his retirement from the Loveland Police Department at the May 9 City Council meeting. He began his law enforcement career with the Village of Seven Mile in 1986, and came to Loveland as a part-time officer in 1990. He became a full-time officer in 1992.

    In 1998, Barnes received the Medal of Valor for confronting a violent subject with a knife who took a woman and baby hostage, negotiating everyone’s safe release. In 2002, Barnes became the first school resource officer for the City of Loveland, and in 2015, became the 14th officer in Ohio to be recognized as a Master School Resource Officer by the Ohio School Resource Officers Association.

    Barns was one of the first Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate (A.L.I.C.E.) instructors and sparked innovations in safety around the Loveland district.

    The Parade starts at the Moose Lodge Hall on E. Loveland Ave. and proceeds to W. Loveland Ave., to Rich Road, and ends at Loveland High School. The annual Powder Puff football game will be held at the stadium immediately following the parade.
