Michael J. Gabrielson being promoted to Kettering Department Captian on November 20, 2019
Loveland, Ohio – Michael J. Gabrielson, current Assistant Chief of Police with the Kettering Police Department, has been chosen as the Loveland Police Department’s new Chief of Police.
Gabrielson will begin his employment with the city on August 1.
Sue Madsen, who has served as the city’s Safety Director since April when former Chief Sean Rahe retired, will assist with Gabrielson’s onboarding according to a release by the City.
“My family and I have been blessed throughout my law enforcement career and we absolutely see Loveland in that same light. It is an honor to be selected as chief and become part of an exceptional and successful agency. I am eager to join a flourishing community with outstanding schools, beautiful parks, and a thriving business district — all serviced by an incredible city with hardworking and dedicated employees,” said Gabrielson in the City press release.
“Gabrielson brings more than 28 years of experience as a certified peace officer in the State of Ohio and more than 20 years as a law enforcement instructor to his new role. He has served the citizens of Kettering since 1993, where he began as a patrolman. His responsibilities as the Assistant Chief at Kettering included leading one of two major divisions of the department with special focus on patrol operations, administrative support, community relations, and criminal investigations.”
Gabrielson holds a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Tiffin University and has pursued ongoing education through the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety.
“We are very excited to have Mr. Gabrielson join the Loveland Police Department,” said Loveland City Manager David Kennedy. “After an extensive interview process, he is the right candidate to lead the department. He has a robust background in building internal and external relationships, and I believe he will be a strong asset to the Loveland community and to our police officers’ development. Thank you to all who assisted in the candidate interview process.”

The involved law enforcement agencies worked long hours in challenging weather conditions to bring Alicia home.”
A “Critical Missing Person” alert was issued by the department on June 13 concerning Kenny.

Asbury began his career in 2012 at the Adams County Sherriff’s Office as a dispatcher and corrections officer. He graduated from the police academy in 2013 and was promoted to the road patrol division. He then became involved in criminal patrol interdiction, the narcotics unit, and field training. Asbury also managed a traffic safety grant through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office.
In June 2018, Asbury moved to the Brown County Sherriff’s Office, where he was promoted to the Brown County Drug and Major Crimes Task Force as an undercover agent. During his time with the Task Force, he worked mid-to high-level drug trafficking operations on the state and federal level and investigated overdose deaths.
Loveland, Ohio – There is no better time than now to give back to your local community and that’s just what the Loveland Police Department and the Loveland Citizens Police Academy Alumni invite you to do this Saturday!
On Saturday, July 17th at the Loveland Madeira Kroger the two local organizations invite all area residents to their 9thannual Annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Food Drive, in order to benefit Loveland’s LIFE Food Pantry.
The event will be held from 9 AM until to 1 PM at the Loveland Kroger, 800 Loveland-Madeira Road.
You can clean out your own pantry and drop off non-perishable food donations or while in the store, purchase some extra items to put in the cruiser on your way home – to literally stuff a police cruiser full! Actually as you go in, ask what items they would like you to shop for and buy a whole bunch!
During the Summer months, the LIFE Food Pantry tends to get very low on food supplies because there are so many families that are at home (school is out which means no school lunch programs to fall back on) and in need of nutrition. This is why both the LPD and Loveland Citizens Police Academy sponsor the Annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” specifically in the Summer.
Last year Peggy Goodwin, a member of the Loveland Citizens Police Academy, spent most of her day at the Food Drive event helping organize donations and couldn’t express enough how kind the community of Loveland is for the number of donations brought in!
Please enjoy the video interview below with Peggy Goodwin and Lt. Amy Campbell as well as the photo album from the Food Drive as I and Cassie Mattia did a little “stuffing” last Summer!
Keep in mind that the Pantry is now in their new location next to the Loveland Library, not in their previous location that Goodwin describes in this video. (541 Loveland-Madeira Road, Loveland, Ohio 45140 (513) 583-8222)
If you would like to donate food items or learn how you can get access to food benefits for you and your family go to http://www.lifefoodpantry.org/. Thank you once again Loveland for being a community filled with LOVE!
