    Loveland, Ohio – Students across Ohio have felt and continue to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the remainder of the school year canceled as well as graduation and all the fun events that go along with it, many students did not get the opportunity to be a part of their Annual Senior Night missing out on receiving Senior Awards and Scholarships.

    Steve and Connie Mitchell could not bear the thought of not giving out the annual 2020 Seth Mitchell Scholarships to the LHS Senior applicants so they decided to give the scholarships away virtually! The Mitchells usually make an annual visit into town to personally hand out the scholarships on the Senior Award Night.

    Connie and Steve’s, son and decorated war hero, LHS graduate, Captain Seth Mitchell was killed on October 26th, 2009 at age 30 when two helicopters collided while he was supporting combat operations in Afghanistan’s Helmand province. At the time of tragedy, Captain Mitchell was stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA, and was part of the Marine Corp HMLA 367 Scarface unit. Captain Mitchell piloted an AH-1 Super Cobra helicopter.

    Seth volunteered for the fatal mission.

    Why there is a Captain Seth Mitchell HERO 5K

    In memory of Captain Mitchell both, his family and friends not only hold “The Seth Mitchell Hero 5k” in Downtown Historic Loveland every year, but they also give away “Seth Mitchell” scholarships to two well accomplished LHS Seniors. Below is Steve and Connie Mitchell’s explanation of how the scholarship recipients were selected this year.

    “As you probably guessed we were unable to do personal on-site interviews with our 2020 Seth Mitchell scholarship applicants. However, we summoned help from some younger folks and proceeded with the interviews through Google Hangout,” the Mitchell’s explained,  “Yep, Steve and Connie on Google Hangout. Who’d of thought that? Loveland High School also did not have their annual Senior Night on May 13, so the scholarships were awarded virtually. We had 18 applicants this year and personally interviewed six before awarding two scholarships. Your scholarship committee consisting of Greg Carpinello, Damien Cook, Mollie Schrichten, Marisa Sobb, (all friends of Seth and ’97 LHS graduates) Connie and I, take seriously the process to recruit, interview and select candidates. All the kids were deserving and we are especially proud of the recipients.”

    The $3,500 Let Us Never Forget Seth Mitchell Scholarship was founded by the Mitchell Family and the “Let Us Never Forget Scholarship Foundation.”
    The scholarships are funded by the Seth Mitchell Hero 5K, in which both Seth’s friends and family run, in memory of Seth every year.
    This year the 2020 “virtual” Let Us Never Forget Seth Mitchell Scholarships went to Jordan Collins and Caroline Ginder! Below are the biographies for both scholarship winners provided by the Mitchell’s.

    Jordan Collins is the 2020 scholarship recipient and she has a spirit similar to Seth.
    She was and still is involved in many theatrical and musical productions. She is a National Honor Society member, volunteers through Mom’s Hope, and works part-time.
    Jordan will be paying a large part of her college costs.
    She has a “do something” attitude, a strong work ethic, and knows no stranger, being kind to all. She is not afraid to fail in the pursuit of her dreams and is strong in the face of adversity.
    She hopes to pursue her theatrical dreams at Syracuse University.

    Caroline Ginder is also a 2020 recipient of the Memorial Scholarship. Caroline was described by one of her references as “being self-motivated, goal-oriented, and a fine example of caring more about her teammates rather than herself.”
    She participated in many school events such as Tiger’s Inc., LHS Women’s Soccer, NEST, and National Honor Society.
    Caroline will be attending Ohio State University where she will pursue medicine. She hopes to someday be a part of Doctors Without Borders.
    Like Jordan, Caroline is paying a share of her college costs as well.

    Loveland Legacy Foundation Honors the Work of Loveland Educating Against Alcohol and Drugs with Grant Award

    Loveland Legacy Foundation Executive Committee Member CeeCee Collins presented a check of $1,000 to Loveland Educating Against Alcohol and Drugs (LEAAD) Program Coordinator Katie Sedziol for LEAAD’s important contributions to the betterment of our community.

    Loveland, Ohio – Katie Sedziol, program coordinator for Loveland Educating Against Alcohol and Drugs (LEAAD), accepted an award and donation from Loveland Legacy Foundation on Monday, December 9. With a mission of supporting a wide variety of ideas, interests, initiatives, and needs benefitting the betterment of Loveland, the Foundation presented a check of $1,000 for LEAAD to continue the important work providing students with direction, education, and awareness of healthy life choices and supporting families in prevention and intervention strategies through community and school-based activities.

    “As an example, the LEAAD youth ambassador program has taken prevention initiatives to the next level by engaging students in meaningful discussions, activities, and experiences to create positive change in our community.”

    “LEAAD has a tremendous impact through its work for students and families in Loveland,” said CeeCee Collins, member of the Loveland Legacy Foundation executive committee. “As an example, the LEAAD youth ambassador program has taken prevention initiatives to the next level by engaging students in meaningful discussions, activities, and experiences to create positive change in our community.”

    Youth ambassadors make up the student sector of the LEAAD coalition, which is a partnership of numerous community-based organizations, including Hope Restored Counseling, the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance, the Loveland Police Department and the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department, local faith-based organizations, NEST, and many others.     The Loveland Legacy Foundation was initially created in response to the devastating 2017 fire in downtown Loveland. Businesses and residents affected by the fire received financial support through the generosity of members of the Loveland community and in turn, created the foundation as a way to pay it forward.

    Loveland High School’s senior class spends a day serving local nonprofits

    This group of Loveland High School seniors spent Senior Service Day at Valley View, a nonprofit organization in Milford with a mission of conserving land, preserving history and sharing it with the community.

    Loveland, Ohio – The entire senior class at Loveland High School (LHS) spent Wednesday, October 16 volunteering at nonprofits throughout the area. Beginning the day assembled at New Hope Baptist Church, the students learned from presenters about the value and impact of community service and then spent the afternoon assisting at a range of

    local organizations and agencies, including: Bethany House, Cincinnati Parks, Freestore Foodbank, Grailville, Granny’s Garden, Greenacres, Hands Against Hunger, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Nest, New Life Furniture, Play Library, Stepping Stones, St. Francis Seraph School, St. Vincent De Paul, and Valley View. The students also assisted in various projects at school campuses across the district.

    Throughout the day, students shared their efforts and experiences on social media, using the Twitter hashtag #makeyourmark.

    “Our eighth annual Senior Service Day was a great success,” said LHS Principal Peggy Johnson. “I appreciate all the hard work that went into the planning and organization of the event, which involved nearly 400 students, educators and additional volunteers.”

    • Visit these Loveland Businesses on July 4 for more live music. Rooster Ridge will be playing at Cappy’s Wine and Spirits from 7:30 to 10:00 p.m.; Lyle’s Bikes, Brews & BBQ has booked Jason Ritchie from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and Frank Grasso from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., DJ MoCool will be at Bishop’s Quarter from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

    • Don’t miss Inquire Without playing at the clock from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. and The Whammies will take the stage in Nisbet Park at 8 p.m. on July 4!

    • Ladies and gentlemen, step right up to Cincinnati Circus’ Stunt Show on July 4 at the central green. Shows are at 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 8:30 and 9:30 p.m.

    • Bring the kiddos to Loveland’s July 4 Kid Zone in Nisbet Park from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. All activities are FREE and will feature the Cool Critter’s Outreach, Heavenward Farms Pony Rides, Foam Dance Party, Disney Characters, Bounce House, Inflatable Games, Face Painting, Balloon Artists, and Branches Church Photo Booth.

    • Shuttles will be available on July 4! Park at Loveland High School or St. Columban Parish to catch a bus to downtown Loveland. Shuttles will run from 3:30 p.m. to 11:15 p.m.

    • NEST will host an old-fashioned family fun area on the lawn in front of City Hall on July 4 from 4 p.m. – 9 p.m. Activities will include sack races, water balloon toss, hula hoop contest, three-legged race, patriotic craft, watermelon seed spitting contest, and an apple pie baking contest. Please have pies at the judging area by 4:30 p.m.

    SPARKS IN THE PARK!

    July 3rd from 6 to 10 PM at Riverside Ball Park, Victor Stier Drive

    A few important reminders for Sparks in the Park….once again this year, no coolers will be allowed on the festival grounds. The @milfordcommunityfiredepartment will be selling water, pop and Gatorade, American Legion Victor Stier Post 450 will be selling beer and the Kona Ice Truck will be there with shaved ice!

    None of the vendors are set up to take credit/debit cards, it will be cash only and there will be an ATM available onsite. Food options available are Padrino Italian, Harvest Market Smoker, EZ BBQ, Texas Roadhouse, Milford Angilo’s Pizza, and Tickled Sweet.

    Bring chairs and/or blankets!

    Ronnie Vaughn Music will be kicking things off at 6 PM with lots of familiar favorites and some originals!

    Limited handicap parking is available at the festival grounds, look for the signs. Other parking options include Parking Options: City lot on Main Street, left-hand side of American Legion, The former Milford Main lot, the City Administrative Building and street parking. You can access the park from the uptown parking areas down Lila Avenue to High Street.

    The parade steps off at noon on Thursday, July 4th. The parade starts at the northern boundary of Northside at Hamilton Avenue and Ashtree Drive and travels south on Hamilton Avenue to Hoffner Park. Roads will close approximately 10 minutes before the parade start.

    Loveland Middle School and the LMS Student Council is starting a month long fundraiser to support NEST Community Learning Center and the Lighthouse Youth Services. As part of their fundraising activities they are having a fundraiser at the Loveland Chipotle for NEST on Tuesday, Dec 19th from 4 to 8 PM. Chipotle will be donating 50% of the evenings sales to NEST.
