    New York, N.Y. – A talented LHS graduate joined the ranks of 8 semi-finalists for the 2019 John Mackey Award. The candidates are as follows: Harrison Bryant (SR, Florida Atlantic), Hunter Bryant (JR, Washington), Brycen Hopkins (SR, Purdue), Brevin Jordan (SO, Miami), Charlie Kolar (SO, Iowa St), Albert Okwuegbunam (JR, Missouri), Colby Parkinson (JR, Stanford) and Giovanni Ricci (SR, Western Michigan and Loveland High School). The 8 semi-finalists were selected by the John Mackey Award Selection Committee through confidential balloting. The recipient will be announced on December 11th and presented live December 12th at The Home Depot Red Carpet Show at 6 PM ET on ESPNU.

    The Western Michigan Football program recently spoke about Ricci’s impressive sports resume.

    Among tight ends nationally, Ricci enters this week tied for the lead in receiving touchdowns with eight, tied for third in receptions with 45 and third in receiving yards with 611.
     
    A native of Loveland, Ohio, Ricci ranks third within the Mid-American Conference in third-down receptions (15) and third in catches resulting in a first down (29). Ricci’s team-high 611 receiving yards are the third most in the MAC.
     
    In 43 career games as a Bronco, Ricci has totaled 92 receptions for 1,083 yards and 11 touchdowns.  His 2019 season has been highlighted by a career-high 105 receiving yards on eight catches at Syracuse and two-touchdown performances against Monmouth in the season opener and at Ohio last week. Ricci has topped the 50-yard receiving plateau six times in 11 games this fall.

    About the John Mackey Award

    NFL Hall of Fame member John Mackey is considered to be one of the best that has ever played the tight end position. A tight end by whom all others are measured, Mackey was a role model on and off the field as demonstrated by his Super Bowl Championship, his commitment to the community and his place in history as the first President of the NFLPA.

    The John Mackey Award was first presented in 2000 and since has recognized seventeen NFL alumni. Some of the previous recipients include two-time Super Bowl Champion Daniel Graham (‘01), 2006 Super Bowl Champion Dallas Clark (‘02), Kellen Winslow II (‘03), two-time Super Bowl Champion Heath Miller (‘04), Marcedes Lewis (‘05) of the Green Bay Packers, 2008 Super Bowl Champion Matt Spaeth (‘06), Fred Davis (‘07), Chase Coffman (‘08), D.J. Williams (‘10), Dwayne Allen (’11), Tyler Eifert (’12) of the Cincinnati Bengals, Austin Seferian-Jenkins (’13), Nick O’Leary (’14), Hunter Henry (’15) of the Los Angeles Chargers, Jake Butt (‘16) of the Denver Broncos, Mark Andrews (’17) of the Baltimore Ravens and 2018 John Mackey Award recipient T.J. Hockenson of the Detroit Lions.

    The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football.     Loveland, Ohio – These are the remarks St. Columban student, Paul Laufersweiler delivered as the keynote address at the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial on Memorial Day on November 11.

    Veteran’s Day this year was another one for the books as fully uniformed St. Columban students marched down Oakland Road to the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial, located at the corner of Riverside and West Loveland. In honor of St. Columban’s Annual Walk for Local Veterans dozens of 7th and 8th-grade students from St. Columban School gathered around the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial with local veterans as a service was conducted in their honor.

    We take time this morning to remember all of those who have served the United States of America, especially those from the Loveland community, to whom this memorial is dedicated.

    Today there is, and perhaps there will always be, conflict in the world. But the United States, fortunately, enjoys peace and freedom.

    Like other things of great value, this security did not come cheaply. Americans, who answered the call to military duty when their country needed them, have already paid part of the cost.

    But another part of freedom’s cost must continue to be paid long after the weapons have been silenced. This debt is owed to our American veterans.

    Some need their country’s help, even as their country once needed theirs. Often they need to readjust, to recover from wounds or to overcome hardships of age and infirmity. Most need and ask nothing in repayment for their sacrifices.

    Let us continue to help those veterans in need with the greatest possible compassion, concern, and care. To these, since they ask no special thanks, we can best pay tribute this day by recognizing what they have achieved and joining them in their resolve to keep America strong and free.

    Veterans Day Program this Monday in Loveland

    Loveland, Ohio – Veterans can go to the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial at the corner of Riverside and West Loveland on Monday, November 11, at 11 AM on Veterans Day and be honored by 7th and 8th-grade students from St. Columban School. The students annually walk from their school on Oakland Road to conduct a service to honor local vets.

    Loveland Board of Education adds several meetings to schedule

    Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Board of Education met on Thursday, November 7, for a regularly scheduled work session and added three additional meetings for the remainder of the year to discuss how to move

    forward after the failed levy vote on November 5. The board also decided to add a public input session to its next business meeting on November 19. The full meeting schedule through the end of the year is listed below. All meetings start at 6 PM and will be held in the LMS/LIS Media Center on 757 South Lebanon Road.

    The combined operating and bond levy on last Tuesday’s ballot was turned back by a 78-22 percent margin.

    On election night the Board issued a press release conceding defeat and Board President Art Jarvis said, “No one wins when our schools lose, and with the levy setback, the needs remain. As for immediate next steps, we will reflect on the vote and the needs in the district and ascertain what the community will support going forward. We have urgent facility and operating issues, but this was not the plan the voters wanted.”

    If the Board decides to place a new operating or bond issue on the March 17, 2020, primary election ballot, it must be certified to, or filed with boards of elections by 4 PM on December 18.

  • Cedar Drive road closure

    Cedar Drive road closure

    Loveland, Ohio – Beginning Wednesday, November 6, Cedar Drive from Oak Street to Tall Timbers Drive will be closed for a water main installation. The roadway will be re-opened each evening and on weekends. Construction is anticipated to last three weeks, weather dependent.

    Access to properties within project limited will be maintained, although no through traffic will be permitted.

    Loveland Women’s Soccer wins Regional Semi

    Maria Bashardoust helps defeat Beavercreek in Regional Semi-Final

    Monroe, Ohio – To get to the Regional Finals the Loveland Women’s Soccer Team had to beat the #2 team in the nation and a team that until Tuesday evening held the longest winning streak in Ohio history of 43 straight games. The Tigers won over Beavercreek, 3-2 in a game played at Monroe High School. Beavercreek, the reigning Ohio Div. I Champions had not lost a match since they lost in the post-season in 2017.

    Caroline Florea, Claire Massey, and Lauren Donavon scored for the Tigers.

    The Tigers play 19-0-2 Lakota West on Saturday at Princeton High School at 7 PM for the Regional Title. Loveland traveled to Lakota West on August 20 to open their season and lost 1-2.

    In 2017, Loveland High School soccer competed for the Division I state title at the Columbus MAPFRE stadium and beat Perrysburg High School 1-0, earning Loveland the OHSAA state championship. Loveland competed in the state championship in 2015 and fell to Walsh Jesuit. They are currently on a 12-game winning streak and have a 16-3-0 record.

    LHS Women XC Team is headed to STATE

    Loveland, Ohio – “Congratulations to our girls cross country team on their fantastic season,” said Brian Conaster the Loveland High School Athletic Director.

    The Loveland High School Women’s cross country team qualified to compete for the Division I State Championship which will take place on Saturday, at the National Trail Raceway, in Hebron. The Women’s Division I race is at 12:30 PM.

    The Tigers placed 3rd in the Regional tournament this past Saturday at Troy High School. The 2019 state-bound Tigers team will consist of Emmy Sager, Jessie Gibbins, Sarah Madix, Ellie Carr, Audrey O’Keefe, Allyson Colegate, and Ansley Richards. Alternate Runners if needed will be, Maaike Snider, Ellie Zicka, Bella Dillhoff, and Skyler Daumeyer. Leading the Tigers to state will be head coach Steve Nester.

    “Our girls dedicated themselves to run against some of the toughest competition, not only in the state of Ohio but other top programs of other states too. They understand what it takes to be the best and are committed to getting there. They worked hard to be better than last year and have now set the new Tiger standard of excellence. Best of luck at State” added Conaster.

    The last time Loveland runners qualified as a team was in 2007 so this year will definitely be making Tiger school history!

    School transportation and spectators should enter Gate A off State Route 40 and follow parking coordinator directions to designated parking.

    School spirit signs are permitted to be placed on facility fencing. Recommendation is for zip tied material. Taping of signs is not recommended.

    Spectator vehicles traveling from the east should exit I-70 at Exit 126 Rt. 37N entering the Campground Gate or Gate A on Route 40. When traveling from the west spectators must exit I-70 at Exit 122 Rt. 158N. Turn right onto Route 40. Enter Gate D. After parking for free, admission into the facility is $10.00 for all school age and older. Handicapped registered vehicles will enter Gate D from State Route 40. Recreational Vehicles wishing to set up tailgating inside the competition grounds should use exit 126 from I-70 and proceed to Gate A on Route 40. A $25.00 parking fee will be taken at Gate A. Spectator admission ($10.00) will also be taken at the gate. Vehicles will park inside the meet facility with tailgating space available for each RV unit. Recreation Vehicles may park in the Campground lot outside the competition area without paying the parking fee, but due to limited parking spaces, RV tailgating is not permitted in the main parking lots.

    Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Fall sports have been running away with ECC titles left and right, but one team in particular actually did “run away” with the ECC title! The Loveland High school Women’s Cross Country is marking one of their best seasons in history not only winning the 2019 ECC title but also continuing well into the post-season where the Lady Tigers will compete for a bid to the State Tournament on Saturday at Troy High School.

    2019 Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year Steve Nester has also managed to lead the Men’s Cross Country Team to regionals on Saturday. With all of the great athletes running around the halls of Loveland High School Loveland Magazine had to, of course, take another trip out to the land of the Tigers to chase down and chat with the Women’s Cross Country Team about their season of personal bests!     Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Tiger athletes continue to represent Loveland High School with flying colors earning yet again another 2019 ECC title – this time the Boys Soccer Team! Coach Mike Dunlap and his team of dedicated soccer players went undefeated in the ECC with a 7-0 record, competed in the sectional finals and grabbed some top coach, team, and individual ECC accolades.

    Loveland, Ohio – It’s no secret that Loveland High school is succeeding in athletics as 5 Fall sports teams have now grabbed an ECC title this year. The Loveland High school Girls Tennis Team, whose last ECC title came in 2012, was 1 of the 5 teams to earn a 2019 ECC title and the lady tigers along with Coach Dara Hudson couldn’t be more proud of their successful season!

    Loveland Magazine TV decided to pay a visit to Loveland High school to see just what the 411 was on the Loveland High School Girls Tennis Team. With a 15-2 record overall and a 6-1 record in the ECC Coach Hudson couldn’t stress enough why it couldn’t have been possible without the hard work and dedication put in by each and every one of the girls!
