Loveland, Ohio – There is no better time than now to give back to your local community and that’s just what the Loveland Police Department and the Loveland Citizens Police Academy Alumni invite you to do this Saturday!
On Saturday, July 17th at the Loveland Madeira Kroger the two local organizations invite all area residents to their 9thannual Annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Food Drive, in order to benefit Loveland’s LIFE Food Pantry.
The event will be held from 9 AM until to 1 PM at the Loveland Kroger, 800 Loveland-Madeira Road.
You can clean out your own pantry and drop off non-perishable food donations or while in the store, purchase some extra items to put in the cruiser on your way home – to literally stuff a police cruiser full! Actually as you go in, ask what items they would like you to shop for and buy a whole bunch!
During the Summer months, the LIFE Food Pantry tends to get very low on food supplies because there are so many families that are at home (school is out which means no school lunch programs to fall back on) and in need of nutrition. This is why both the LPD and Loveland Citizens Police Academy sponsor the Annual “Stuff-a-Cruiser” specifically in the Summer.
Last year Peggy Goodwin, a member of the Loveland Citizens Police Academy, spent most of her day at the Food Drive event helping organize donations and couldn’t express enough how kind the community of Loveland is for the number of donations brought in!

LIFE or Loveland Interfaith Effort is a faith and community-supported organization that provides food, financial assistance, and programs to those experiencing hardship in the greater Loveland area. LIFE is located at 101 S Lebanon Road and is open for donations Thursdays from 3 PM-6:30 PM and Saturdays from 9 AM-12:30 PM. LIFE also supplies Holiday Baskets during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah, and runs both a Giving Shop, which provides eligible families the chance to shop for new gifts for their families and a Student LIFE Shop, that provides much-needed items to students in the Loveland School District. LIFE also has a food pantry called Tiger Pantry, which provides Loveland students in need with necessary food items.

This year volunteers held the “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Food Drive beginning at 9 AM on July 18th at the Loveland Kroger and collected food items and cash donations the majority of the day! Those within the Loveland community and those just casually grocery shopping were able to bring food items from their home to “stuff the cruiser” or could simply use Kroger’s “Click List” and select specific items to go towards “LIFE Food Pantry Stuff-a-Cruiser.” Shoppers were also able to leave a cash donation in LIFE’s designated donation jar located on their Food Drive display!

“Inside the gym at Prince of Peace – as soon as a cart came through the door, volunteers immediately started sorting the grocery items onto tables by commodity. The Pantry estimates the value of the groceries, gift cards, and monetary donations at $4,000,” Goodwin said, “This provided a much-needed boost to help fill their ‘cupboard.’ This event speaks volumes to the kindness and generosity of the Loveland community – whenever there is a need, you can count on our residents to step up and do what they can to take care of their neighbors. What a great place to call home! And thank you, Cassie and Dave, for giving up your Saturday morning to come out to talk with us, see what was going on, and now spreading the word about some of the great things Lovelanders do to help each other,” Goodwin added.
Loveland Magazine Editor, David Miller, and I wanted to show our support for such a fantastic event so we spent time with Goodwin, LT. Amy Campbell, and many other volunteers at the “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Food Drive while taking in all the acts of kindness the Loveland community put forth through both food and cash donations. Both Miller and I brought over food donations ourselves as we encouraged those walking in and out of Kroger to do the same. Miller expressed that this particular Food Drive is one of the most important events held in Loveland every summer.
“This time of year is so vastly different from the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday season when thinking about others comes so easy. Each penny families and seniors don’t have to spend on food can go instead to paying bills like rent and utilities,” Miller said, “These needs are something the greater community can help with and they really came through as usual with this reminder from the folks that worked so hard to pull it off.”
Being in the presence of such generosity at the “Stuff-a-Cruiser” Food Drive made me feel as though I was helping so many families in need and I encourage those within the Loveland community to always make time to give back. Loveland, Ohio – With the end of January quickly approaching Loveland is preparing for one of the city’s most celebrated holidays, Valentine’s Day! For those who haven’t experienced the magic of Valentine’s Day in Loveland, you may be wondering why it is one of the most celebrated holidays. Well, other than the city itself being called “Love-land” it is also referenced to as the “Sweetheart of Ohio,” and for a VERY good reason! This year two very special “Sweethearts,” Debbie Murray and Lilly Hummer, were selected to join the historic Loveland Valentine’s Program. Of course, Loveland Magazine wanted to pay tribute by providing our readers with some Loveland Valentine history and an exclusive on-camera interview with Debbie and Lilly!
This year two very special “Sweethearts,” Debbie Murray and Lilly Hummer, were selected to join the historic Loveland Valentine’s Program.
The Loveland Valentine’s Program began in 1972 and quickly became a nationally-known cachet stamping and postmark program. Once the program was up and running the community of Loveland decided to broaden the program’s horizons adding more fun and exciting ways to spread love throughout the city. This included the addition of two very prestigious competitions, the selection of Loveland’s annual Valentine Lady and Loveland’s Valentine Card Design Contest.
So what is a Valentine Lady? A Loveland Valentine Lady can be defined as “a woman who has distinguished themselves in the community, at local schools, and/or with family endeavors.” This lovely lady once selected is the ambassador for the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance’s Valentine program meaning she will spread both love and generosity by visiting area businesses, nursing homes, and schools. The Valentine Lady is chosen by the Loveland community and then picked by the LMR Chamber committee. In 1982 Loveland’s first Valentine Lady, Doris Pfiester was selected. Debbie Murray was announced on December 12th at Loveland’s legendary spot, The Works, as the 34th Valentine Lady! Murray has resided in Loveland since 1985 and is a highly decorated woman in all that she does for the community. Loveland’s 2018 Valentine Lady, Kay Bolin, when asked about Debbie Murray being selected as the 2020 Valentine Lady, had nothing but kind words to say about Murray!
Debbie is indeed one of the nicest, most down to earth individuals you could ever meet.
“I met Debbie Murray in 2018 when I was at that year’s, Loveland Valentine Lady celebration. As we all know, part of the Valentine Lady’s responsibility is to go around to the local schools, which is when I met Debbie as she was a teacher at Tender Years,” Bolin explained, “I have been fortunate to spend more time with Debbie since she has been selected. CeeCee Collins asked me to read one of the many nomination letters that the chamber received nominating Debbie for the 2020 Valentine Lady at the recent Valentine Lady kickoff event. I was honored and felt so fortunate to share this nomination letter to the community. Debbie is indeed one of the nicest, most down to earth individuals you could ever meet and what she has contributed to the Loveland community is wonderful. Deb is the definition of love and kindness! I am looking forward to personally getting to know Debbie better as well as seeing her continued contribution to our community. Debbie, we welcome you to our Valentine Lady Sisterhood!,” Bolin said.

I’m sure everyone can agree that Valentine’s Day wouldn’t be what it is without a great Valentine’s Day card! The LMR Chamber realized this during the early stages of the Valentine’s Day Program so they decided to incorporate a Valentine’s Day Card Design Contest! The design contest is open to anyone in the Loveland community and the only stipulations are that the artwork must reflect or incorporate the theme: “Love is…..” and must also include (or provide space for) the phrase, “There is nothing in this world so sweet as love.” Allowing anyone in the Loveland community to participate in the design contest makes the contest itself both creative and diverse! There have been many great design winner’s in the past, one of them being Loveland Magazine’s very own David Miller.
2020 marks one of the most creatively diverse card designs to date. Lilly Hummer, a freshman Lacrosse player from Loveland High School, was recognized as Loveland’s Valentine’s Day card design winner, on January 11th at the Valentine Kick-off at the Loveland Kroger’s.

Hummer will receive design credit on the back of the 2020 Valentine’s Day cards, local recognition, media recognition and two complimentary invitations to the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance Annual Valentine Breakfast on February 14, 2020. Loveland, Ohio – The 2017 Little Miami River Chamber Alliance Annual Awards Dinner was held on Thursday, November 16, 2017 with a crowd of 220 guests at Receptions Conference Center.
The Awards Dinner consisted of a cocktail reception, silent auction, networking, dinner and the 2017 award nominees and winners being announced by Channel 9’s John Popovich. The silent auction benefitted local non-profit efforts: Pink Ribbon Girls and the Chamber of Commerce’s Scholarship Fund. The silent auction raised over $2,000 and each of the organizations will receive $1,000.

On Tuesday, each of us has important decisions to make. Of major significance is who will guide the business of our city for the next 4 years. Eight candidates are seeking the 4 open seats at the Council table – how do we decide who should fill these roles?
We look to our city to provide the basic services we depend on — the things that are at the core of our daily lives. Are the roadways running through and leading into our neighborhoods smooth, free of potholes and ruts? Are our safety services (police and fire protection) keeping pace with the growth of our community? Is our utility infrastructure (water, sewer, storm water) performing reliably? Are our public buildings and outdoor spaces being properly managed and maintained? Is our city projecting an atmosphere of warmth, friendliness, and cooperation to attract families and businesses to this place we call home? Who will keep these priorities in the forefront of their discussions and decision-making at the Council table?
On November 7th, I’m casting my vote for Tim Butler, Neal Oury, Ted Phelps, and Rob Weisgerber. Why these choices? In their individual campaigns, each has expressed their concerns over the current shortcomings in the delivery of these core services, and each has expressed potential solutions to these issues. Each has pledged to serve our community in a manner that is open, honest, and most importantly, welcoming of input from both you and me. In fact, they have individually pledged to actively engage with the community to seek that input, not merely sit on the sidelines and assume they know what concerns residents may have.
Peggy Goodwin is a former member of city council, former chair of the Planning and Zoning Commission, and volunteer with the Loveland Farmer’s Market.
I trust these 4 candidates to deliver on their commitments; and just as importantly, I trust them to make logical, well-reasoned, financially sound decisions that are in the best interests for all of Loveland. Let’s restore stability, respect, transparency, and a cooperative spirit to Council chambers by electing Tim Butler, Neal Oury, Ted Phelps, and Rob Weisgerber to the Loveland City Council.
