Loveland, Ohio – In their home opener on Monday, December 5 before the Women’s Varsity game began, former Head Coach Darnell Parker was recognized for the impact his life made on the Loveland and regional athletic community.
The evening was also a fundraiser for the Foundation set up by his daughters, Alexis and Madison Parker to raise scholarship dollars for deserving graduates.
Jessica Early (alumni parent) spearheaded the tribute night, along with help of Athletic Director Rich Bryant, Assistant Athletic Director Shayne Lyons, (alumni parent), and with the help of all the current Loveland basketball parents, coaches, and players.
Early said afterward, “We wanted to make sure that Coach Parker’s family felt our love. We wanted the girls to have the opportunity to publicly dedicate the season to Coach Parker. Our Loveland community and basketball program were so greatly impacted and inspired by Darnell.”

Coach Parker told Cassie Mattia in January 2022, “This community needs a win, and I have to deliver it to them.” He said it with his legendary smile when Mattia interviewed him for a “What’s In Loveland’s DNA” interview.
Mattia said at the time, “Coach Parker has certainly become a big part of the Loveland community spreading positivity among his student-athletes and the cancer community. There’s no question that Coach Parker is a part of ‘What’s in Loveland’s DNA!”
Loveland, Ohio – On Monday, December 5 you can join our Tiger Nation in celebrating the life and legacy of Women’s Basketball Head Coach Darnell Parker. His daughters have established a scholarship in their father’s name to award to a deserving Loveland High School athlete.
The Varsity Game is at 7:30 PM and the JV game is at 6 PM. Sometime around 7, between the JV and Varsity games is when Darnell’s family will be called down to mid-court.
Will you wear orange and black spirit wear? Will you wear your Coach Parker tee? Will you come and compete in the half-court throwdown? Will you buy enough split-the-pot tickets to win the split?
The split-the-pot raffle, the half-court shot tickets, and cookies will be sold throughout the JV and Varsity games. The half court competition and split the pot winner will be announced at half-time of the Varsity game.
Darnell had more fun than anyone could imagine playing collegiate basketball and earning his bachelor’s degree.
A student earning this scholarship will be continually inspired by Coach Darnell Parker to push through adversity to accomplish their dreams.

The birthday of Darnell Parker, the beloved Loveland High School woman’s head basketball coach is coming up in November, and his friend and team photographer Gayle Rothmeeler wanted to do something special for him. Coach Parker died after a long struggle with cancer this past July.
This is the plan…
In honor of Darnell’s Birthday, she would like us to collectively play basketball for the 24 hours of his birthday. It will be broken down into 1-hour segments so that throughout the entire day of his birthday there is someone playing basketball to remember him. This will all take place on November 26.
1. BASKETBALL– for the 24 hours of his birthday on November 26, have people sign up for 1-hour increments to play basketball in his honor. You can shoot hoops in your backyard etc. This can be done on an individual basis, so his family and friends all over can participate. I set up a sign up genius for those that are willing to take an hour. During “your hour” I hope that you can take a picture and tag him on social media so we can all see everyone celebrating and playing basketball for him. 2. Tee Shirts– I created a shirt with his favorite slogan “our way”. They are being sold for $10, with $5 being donated to the scholarship fund that Alexis and Madison, his daughters created. The deadline to order is November 1 so that they can be printed, shipped, and delivered in time to wear on his birthday. 3. DONATIONS– There is an additional option on the t-shirt link to donate to his scholarship fund. Again, $5 from each shirt will go there, but if you would like to donate additional money, that is an easy way to do so. The scholarship will support a Loveland High School student-athlete pursuing a college education who values giving back to their community and has a personal story with cancer.
Loveland, Ohio – Coach Mike Cotsonas from Loveland Boys Youth Lacrosse wants to remind the community about the Annual Loveland High School Men’s Lax Alumni Game.
It will take place on November 26 (always day after Thanksgiving) at Tiger Stadium and is sponsored by the youth Lax program.
Mike says it is, “Just a great way to get our boys lax alumni, friends, and family together to celebrate the history, tradition, and success of the program.” He adds, ” The last four years the Loveland alumni game has become the most successful in the area, and we want to keep that tradition alive.”
The event has been renamed the Ben Morrison ‘20 Memorial Classic, and all proceeds go to support the scholarship in his name. No registration or fee is required. Mike said, “Just come on out”.
The organizers will “pass the helmet” and all donations go to support the Ben Morrison Scholarship. “It’s a great cause, and the youth program and the Loveland HS Lacrosse Alumni Association are excited to support this effort to remember one of our own, ” said Cotsonas. “Hope to see you the day after Thanksgiving at Tiger Stadium at Noon.”
Loveland, Ohio – Each year the Loveland Stage Company recognizes a graduating high school student with its Creative Arts Scholarship.
The Loveland Stage Company is offering a scholarship again this year in the amount of $1000. In order to qualify for the scholarship, the graduating student must reside in the Loveland City School District, attend Loveland High School, or be an offspring of a Loveland Stage Company member. This scholarship is intended to be used toward college or university tuition, room and board, or books.
The Loveland Stage Company wishes to encourage and support young local talent. Therefore, prospective applicants must be planning to further their education in the Creative Arts. Qualifying areas of study include, but are not limited to: art, music, theater, photography, film, dance, and majors that support these studies. Students are asked to submit examples of their talent in their chosen field and a high school transcript demonstrating the ability to succeed academically as part of the application process.
Applications are available on the Loveland Stage Company website and are due no later than Sunday March 14.
After Kyle Beasley’s grandfather, David M. Mabee (In Photo above), died in July of 2017 of multiple myeloma, he knew that the Student of the Year campaign was something that he wanted to support in memory of his grandfather.
Loveland, Ohio– The people of Loveland have always been known for being advocates for a great cause. Whether it’s helping a new local business succeed or supporting a local non-profit, the “Sweetheart of Ohio,” ALWAYS lives up to its reputation.
Two seniors out of Loveland High School, Kyle Beasley and Frannie Cornett have made it their mission this year to fight for the greater good through a campaign called “Student of the Year,” sponsored by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).
“The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society typically nominates a student each year that is adequately able to involve their peers, community, and family in a campaign that builds them as human beings and supports an organization that is putting forth their efforts into a fantastic cause,” Beasley explained, “The Student of the year receives a $2,500 scholarship that, if running alone, is taken in full. Or, in my case, is split in two with their partner(s).”

“My grandfather was a person who always brightened a room with his smile. His charisma was unparalleled and he always enjoyed meeting new people and being with my sister and me,” Beasley said, “Whether it was on stage directing shows, attending church, or celebrating holidays with my family, David Mabee made every single day better for every person he was around.”
Beasley and his partner, Frannie Cornett, will tag team a 7-week fundraiser in which they will solicit sponsorships, receive donations and sell ads that will be a part of their grand finale program.
“Our plan is to reach out to local businesses and community members for donations to LLS,” Beasley explained, “We are also doing our best to set up corporate meetings in which we present our cause and try to lock down corporate partnerships with LLS for our Grand Finale Gala on March 2nd.”
Beasley and Cornett’s goal is to raise $50,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an added bonus being that Beasley would also be awarded the privilege of naming a research grant in his grandfather’s name.
The Leukemia and Lymphoma society is an integral part of blood cancer research and without it, my grandfather wouldn’t have had the life he did the five years following diagnosis.
“The Leukemia and Lymphoma society is an integral part of blood cancer research and without it, my grandfather wouldn’t have had the life he did the five years following diagnosis,” Beasley said,“Out of the 25 FDA approved treatments in 2018, 20 of them were backed by LLS’s efforts. Saying that, it should go without saying that LLS is making a difference across the nation and revolutionizing how we approach blood cancers.”
Although Beasley admits Cornett and himself are little far off their goal of 50,000 dollars, they are not giving up as they have a plethora of fun and exciting fundraisers coming up.
“We are holding a spirit night at Chik-fil-A at Deerfield Crossing in Mason from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on January 29th and we are also holding a ‘Minute to Win it” fundraiser at the Loveland boys varsity basketball game against Milford on February 7th,” Beasley said, Minute to Win it is a minute long event held at halftime of a sporting event in which they run the stairs of the stands and attempt to collect as much money as they can.
Beasley, of course, wants to remind those interested in donating that if he and his fundraising team don’t have the chance to get to you during the Minute to Win it challenge they will have a table set up outside of the gym to collect donations.

Loveland, Ohio – On Saturday, September 23 The Captain Seth Mitchell HERO 5K was run from Nisbet Park in Historic Downtown Loveland for the eighth straight year. The race is organized each year by Mitchell’s former classmates who miss their friend and want to keep his memory alive. They represent the many people who Seth made an impression on with his sense of humor, kind heart, and loyal friendship. The race raises scholarship money for graduating seniors at Loveland High School.

Mitchell was class president his senior year at Loveland High School in 1997. He died in 2009 in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on a mission he volunteered for.
In the first LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video, you will see clips from the event and listen to Marisa Sobb read a letter from lasts year’s scholarship winner, 2017 Loveland High School graduate, Katie McElveen. In the letter, McElveen talks about the inspiration Seth Mitchell was for her as she strived to live her life with the ideals that Mitchell embodied.
In the second video, Seth’s father Steven Mitchell thanked the participants, sponsors, and the organizing committee and announced that this year was a record for the amount of money raised at the race, more than $10,000. Mitchell told the young people in the crowd to learn about and remember the life his son led, “You will make a difference in somebody’s life someday.”
