Pizza, Beer, and History…The Works Pizza has it all!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – Downtown Historic Loveland is becoming quite the popular foodie destination as new restaurants are popping up left and right! Not all the phenomenal food culture is necessarily at the new Loveland restaurants, in fact, one restaurant, in particular, has been around since 2002 and has been serving up deliciously unique combinations ever since.

The Works Pizza, located in the heart of Downtown Loveland at 20 Grear Millitzer Place, has been pairing up Pizza and Beer for over 20 years to families within the community and beyond with just a few missions in mind; serving One-of-a-kind-food at a One-of-a-kind-location creating a One-of-a-kind-experience!

Owners of The Works Pizza, Scott and Jamie Gordon, both grew up in Loveland and of course, always held Loveland close to their hearts as they both attended school in Loveland as well. The Gordon’s first came across The Works Pizza building in high school while working on building their “Class Float,” but never imagined that they would eventually be opening a very successful restaurant within the same building!

What is now The Works Pizza was built in 1905 and was used as a water filling station for steam locomotives. Years later the building was home to both the Fire Station and Public Works. Although there have been some renovations to The Works the building, it still holds quite a bit of history. The Works Pizza is home to the Chime Bells that you can hear ring beautifully throughout Loveland, and “The Crusader,” a 1921 Pullman Passenger Train Car that Scott Gordon managed to find in Gettysburg, PA. The Crusader has since been remodeled so that it could seat up to 36 people, as the car can be rented out for events and parties. Oh and each vintage piece of art on the wall of The Works has history and meaning behind it too, but of course you will have to let Scott give you the history lesson on each piece!

The Works Pizza is not only historically appealing; the food is out of this world. From their unbelievable Cauliflower Crust to the Deep Fried Green Beans to the infamous Breakfast Pizza, you can’t go wrong selecting just about anything on The Works Pizza menu! What goes better with Pizza than Beer? The Works Pizza has a huge selection of beers on tap and from the bottle, most of the beers being from local suppliers.

Hungry yet? LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV and me, Cassie the Food Guru, have got you covered as we had the opportunity to stop in The Works Pizza and chat with owner Scott Gordon about his journey and why The Works has guests coming back time and time again!

Without further ado, we bring to you, our loyal Loveland Magazine readers, a one-on-one on-camera interview with Scott Gordon! Click below to view the interview now!

Loveland, Ohio – Downtown Loveland celebrated those heroes who lost their lives during the 9/11 tragedy gathered around the Chief Candace M. Cook Firefighters Memorial, located on Harrison Avenue right along the Loveland/Little Miami Bike Trail just two Fridays ago.

Both the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department and the Loveland Police Department attended the beautiful ceremony as well as several dedicated community leaders.

Luckily, Loveland Magazine was there to capture the breath-taking ceremony that included, a speech by retired Cincinnati Police Lieutenant and Republican candidate for Hamilton County Sheriff ,Bruce Hoffbauer, the playing of bagpipes as the firefighter memorial flag was lowered to half-mast, search lights resembling the Twin Towers set off into the sky, and a patriotic display of fireworks as songs honoring the fallen heroes rang throughout the night. Pastor Bill Hounshell led the gathering in prayer.

We understand that many may have missed Loveland’s 9/11 ceremony so here at Loveland Magazine we wanted to make sure our readers could virtually enjoy the experience through our “9/11 Photo Essay.” Click below to view the compilation of photos taken by Editor-In-Chief David Miller honoring the 9/11 heroes, local first responders, and attendees.

Loveland Educating Against Alcohol and Drugs Youth Ambassadors Join the We Are The Majority Rally

21 LEAAD Youth Ambassadors from Loveland, led by program coordinator Katie Sedziol (on the left), attended the 2019 We Are The Majority Rally in Columbus on April 30.

Thousands of teens from across the state come together to celebrate their drug-free lifestyle

Columbus, Ohio – On Tuesday, April 30, 21 LEAAD (Loveland Educating Against Alcohol and Drugs) youth ambassadors from Loveland City Schools embarked on their first trip to the “We Are The Majority Rally” in Columbus, Ohio. There they met more than 2,000 other teens from across Ohio to celebrate that the majority of youth in the state are choosing to stay drug and alcohol free. The day was full of events to shine a light on the fact that youth in Ohio are promoting mental health wellness and leading the way in alcohol and drug prevention efforts. The event, organized by the nonprofit “Prevention Action Alliance,” included a performance and testimony from the local Columbus band Pray for Sleep. In addition, Governor Mike DeWine spoke to the youth about the importance of the hard work within the prevention realm they are facilitating in their communities.

The vision of LEAAD, a  coalition with members that include Loveland City Schools, the NEST Community Learning Center, Hope Restored, Little Miami River Chamber Alliance, the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department and many more, is to provide students with direction, education and awareness of healthy life choices in a positive environment, and support children and families in prevention and intervention strategies through community and school activities based on best practices research, data and policy.

“They’re making our community a better place to live”

“The coalition is beyond thankful to the youth ambassadors for leading the charge on prevention efforts in the community of Loveland,” said Katie Sedziol, LEAAD program coordinator. “They’re making our community a better place to live, grow and learn. We hope that this rally marks the first of many future trips to Columbus in the years to come to celebrate that youth are an integral piece of the drug prevention efforts in Loveland.”

For more information about LEAAD and how to join the coalition, please contact Katie Sedziol at sedzioka@lovelandschools.org. All adults and youth are welcome.
