    Loveland, Ohio – Although an exact date has not been announced, the City received notification last week that Riverside Drive will be closed for one week so the water main can be tapped in preparation for the Main Street and Chestnut Street water main and road repair project.

    This work will require Riverside Drive to be closed to through traffic for one week.

    The Main and Chestnut Water Main and Road Repair project will begin on Monday, October 11.

    The first step in this project is tapping into the water main located on Riverside Drive.

    Loveland Homerama site moves forward

    Loveland, Ohio – On Tuesday, December 15, City Council held a public hearing on the proposed Homerama site for the corner of Butterworth Road and St. Rt. 48 in Warren County. The developer is requesting a change in Loveland’s Zoning Map to a “Special Planning District” (SPD) to accommodate building single-family homes for the 2022 Homerama.

    The concept plan has now made it through the first three sessions of government scrutiny and again goes back to City Council.

    The latest approval was when the Planning and Zoning Commission received the plan again and met on January 5. They voted to recommend to City Council that the zoning map amendment should be made, and that City Council should set a public hearing on the proposal. They followed the recommendation of City Staff that the Council should conduct a first reading of the ordinance on February 9 and schedule a public hearing and conduct a second reading of the ordinance on February 23

    The subdivision will be named Chimney Ridge and will be a Home Builders Association of Greater Cincinnati 2022 Homerama site. The developer is CB Butterworth, LLC 3333 Madison Pk Suite C Ft. Wright, KY. The homes would sell for $600,000 to 1,300,000.

    The proposed development includes 30 single-family dwelling units with a maximum density that shall not exceed 1.15 units per acre and a minimum lot size of 16,000 square feet.

    Jack Baldwin who lives on County Down Lane in the next-door subdivision of Brandywine told City Council on December 15 that he has talked with about a third of the homeowners in his subdivision and received no objections to the layout of the proposal, except concerns about traffic leaving the subdivision at the intersection of Butterworth Road and Brandywine Lane. Baldwin said he was representing the subdivisions of Brandywine and Butterworth Glen. He also said that residents had concerns about the traffic impact to the intersection of Butterworth Road and St. Rt. 48.

    Representing the developer, Greg Berling, noted that he completed a traffic study for Chimney Ridge, Brandywine, and Butterworth Glen to get a comparison. He said that Brandywine and Butterworth Glen have around 553 daily trips and Chimney Ridge is estimated to have 71 daily trips.

    Overnight closures planned for S.R. 28 Bypass

    Miami Township, Ohio – Overnight closures will be effect later this month on the State Route 28 bypass in Milford as part of a bridge deck replacement project on Happy Hollow Road over the bypass.

    On Monday, Sept. 14, Bypass S.R. 28 will be closed in the eastbound direction during the overnight hours, and on Tuesday, Sept. 15, the bypass will be closed in the westbound direction while crews install beams on the Happy Hollow bridge.

    The closures will be in effect from 10 PM each night to 5 AM the following day.

    During periods of closure, traffic will be detoured by way of Business S.R. 28.

    In addition, Happy Hollow Road will be subject to intermittent periods of short-term, 15-minute closure during both nights. At all other times, traffic will be maintained in one lane at the overpass bridge with temporary signals.

    A contract was awarded to Sunesis Construction Company for approximately $1.9 million to rehab the bridge, and completion is scheduled for late spring of 2021.

    Nightly alternating lane closures on Mason-Montgomery Road begins Sunday, Sept. 23

    Deerfield Township, Ohio – Alternating Lane Closures on Mason-Montgomery Road are scheduled to begin 7 PM – 6 AM, Sunday, September 23, for paving work between Merten Drive and Socialville-Fosters Road. The lane closures will last for two (2) weeks, weather permitting, and may include work on the weekends as well as weekdays. Expect delays.

    While traffic will be maintained through the project area, motorists are encouraged to consider alternate routes parallel to Mason-Montgomery Road such as Wilkens Boulevard and Duke Boulevard whenever possible.

    Detours will be put into place for through traffic

    Batavia, Ohio – The Clermont County Engineer’s Office today announced “safety and access improvements” that will take place along Branch Hill-Guinea Pike from Bridle Path Lane to Jer-Les Drive, as well as the related traffic impacts during the course of the project.

    The Branch Hill-Guinea Pike widening project will add a center turn lane and paved shoulders on Branch Hill-Guinea Pike, as well as a sidewalk along the east side of the road from Bridle Path Lane to Jer-Les Drive. Drainage improvements also will be made. In addition to the roadway work, improvements will be made at the intersection of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike and Cook Road/Weber Road, including upgraded traffic signals and designated turn lanes.

    The project will be completed in three phases:

    • Phase 1 is expected to last approximately five weeks, from June 4 through July 9. During Phase 1, work will take place on the northern end of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike and Cook Road.
    • Phase 2 is expected to last approximately five weeks, from July 9 through Aug. 15. During Phase 2, work will take place on the southern end of Branch Hill-Guinea Pike and Weber Road.

    During both phases, a detour will be put into place for through traffic. Access within the project area will be maintained for local property owners only.

    • Phase 3 of work will take place from Aug. 15 through the fall but will not result in full-time road closures. All roads will be reopened to through traffic with only minor temporary closures taking place as crews complete the final pieces of the project.

    Clermont County Engineer Pat Manger said that the work on Branch Hill-Guinea Pike has multiple components that will improve safety and travel in the area. “A new center turn lane will support smoother travel and help to reduce potential accidents by separating turning traffic from through traffic,” said Manger. “The addition of a new sidewalk will provide safer pedestrian access in the area, and drainage improvements will enhance stormwater management along the road and in the surrounding subdivisions.”

    Miami Township Administrator Jeff Wright highlighted the project team that is working together to support the improvements saying, “The Branch Hill-Guinea Pike widening project is being completed in partnership with Miami Township, Milford Schools and the Clermont County Transportation Improvement District to improve access to Boyd E. Smith Elementary School and support safer travel along Branch Hill-Guinea Pike. The safety of our local students and their families is one of our highest priorities, and the township is pleased to work with the school district and the county to ensure we continue to provide better connections and service to our residents.”

    Share your thoughts about potential US 22 corridor improvements

    Deerfied Township, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Transportation will host an open house on Tuesday, May 15, to seek input about several roadway enhancements being considered to improve traffic and safety at the intersection of US 22 and Creek Woods Place/Old 3C Highway. The alternatives under review include constructing a single lane roundabout, restricting the use of left turns during peak hours and adding a traffic signal.
     
    The open house will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at Deerfield Township Fire Station 57. Project representatives will be available for the entire two-hour time period to explain alternatives, hear comments and answer questions. Parking is available in the lot adjacent to the building. Those who cannot attend may also email comments to Keith Smith, environmental project manager, at keith.smith@dot.ohio.govby June 1.

    Loveland Madeira Road to close Monday at 8 AM

    Loveland, Ohio – Construction has begun on the Loveland Madeira Road Storm Drainage project. The project includes a five day road closure of Loveland Madeira Road, scheduled to begin at 8 AM on Monday, October 9.

    The closure will be in the 1400 block of Loveland Madeira Road. A detour plan has been established, routing traffic along West Loveland Avenue and South Lebanon Road to avoid the closure.

    Access will be maintained from West Loveland Avenue to all businesses on Loveland Madeira Road up to and including Kroger, New Hope Baptist Church, and Highridge Drive.

    Access will be maintained from I-275 to all businesses up to Johnny’s Car Wash on Loveland Madeira Road. Access will be maintained to Pet Nation Lodge and ABRA Auto Body, although the approach direction available will vary during the closure.

    EDITOR’S NOTE: Please excuse the quality of our recent video work from the Loveland City Hall council chamber. After the City recently hired a Public Information Officer (PIO), LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV, USA-Today videographers, and Cincinnati Area TV stations have been put into a small corral to one side of the room, and the podium was placed so that when the public rises to speak, they have their backs toward the audience and our camera. We have talked to the PIO, City Manager and the Clerk of Council about how this arrangement significantly degrades our video, “The old set-up allowed a video camera to swing back and forth between those at the podium and the council table. That arrangement had been used for decades.”

    Our plea has fallen on deaf ears. The PIO, however, did respond saying, “Unfortunately, the arrangement of the media area will not be moved to accommodate better angles at this time.”

    So, for the time being, LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV is forced to show butts instead of faces, except when Councilwoman Pam Gross uses the podium. (See this recent video)

    Loveland, Ohio – Resident Tom Morris spoke at the June 13 Council meeting expressed concerns about the development of 50 or more condos on Butterworth Road which would add to traffic congestion on State Route 48 and West Loveland Avenue, and the need to improve the City’s infrastructure.

    “We don’t have the roads for these kinds of projects. We don’t have the structure to get through the City. We need to be having more discussion before we go gung-ho with more condos, more properties, more apartments, more shopping places,” Morris said.

    Morris asked if City Hall was sacrificing Loveland’s quality of life for people who may only live here three months to a year in an apartment at the expense of people who have lived here for sixty years in a home.

    Morris said, “It’s terrible to see Historic Loveland falling apart literally and figuratively more each day.” He asked Council to involve the community in decisions affecting the future of Loveland.
