Loveland, resident Tom Schickel is one of eight finalists in the “high school graduates and older” and two finalists in the “high school seniors and younger” divisions that will vie for a chance to open the sixth annual Ferdinand Folk Festival’s Main Stage in southwestern Indiana, later this year. The singer-songwriter contest will culminate in an evening of juried performances by the finalists on Saturday, August 8, in Ferdinand’s American Legion.
More than 50 songs were entered in the contest from more than 25 artists from nine states—from California to New York.
In total, there will be three awards given at the end of the night—one for each division’s winner, and one for an overall winner. The competition’s overall winner will be awarded the Main Stage slot at the sixth annual Ferdinand Folk Festival on Saturday, September 19, 2015, and the runner-up for the evening will be offered a slot on the Market Stage.
“We are excited about the diverse, grassroots participation for this first year,” said committee co-chair Rock Emmert. “We encourage year-round creation of original music and hope this friendly competition becomes an annual part of the festival.”
