What it is and why it is happening at Loveland Middle School
Loveland, Ohio – What does it mean to be Loveland Middle School (LMS) TIGERS? The answer can be found each month when LMS Principal Chris Burke and Assistant Principal Jayson Bruce share the stage of the LMS Auditorium with teams of teachers to offer lessons in Teamwork, Integrity, Generosity, Excellence, Respect, and Success (TIGERS). The year-long campaign is called #TigerUp and the goal is to get students thinking and talking about what it means to be outstanding both inside and outside of the classroom.
“We want to expose students to the character traits that make amazing individuals and communities,” said Burke. “By hearing and seeing how these traits work in the world and with some of the adults in their life we know it will begin to have impact on the kids.”
Burke uses both video and formal presentation to deliver the message, and each month he asks the students to STEP UP (Tiger Up) to a challenge from the theme. The school even equipped students with #TigerUp shirts to build extra momentum for the campaign.
“My goal is to have students grow as young men and women holistically, not just academically,” said Burke. “Social and emotional growth is as important as any math concept they will learn. Exposure to this information and discussion could have a great ripple effect on their lives.”
