The first meeting of the GMAHS Collectors Club will be held on March 23 and will feature Ohioā€™s Wright Brothers by Dr. Ren Egbert. ā€œI am very pleased to speak at the GMAHS Collectors Club with topics that are dear to my heart ā€“ photography, the Wright brothers, and William P. Mayfield,ā€ commented Dr. Egbert. Mr. Mayfield, a Dayton photojournalist, was befriended by the Wright brothers and documented much of their aviation career.

Dr. Egbertā€™s journey started in 1968 with his first art history class at the University of Iowa and his first collection of intaglio prints (etchings). From 1978 through 1983 he was in the Masterā€™s program for Art History at the University of Cincinnati when his degree was interrupted by the expansion of his dental practice. Dr. Egbert has been a practicing dentist in the Milford area since 1976. In 2003, he exhibited a collection of Wright brothersā€™ photographs at the Dayton Art Institute during the centennial celebration of the first flight.

ā€œMy discussion and photographs,ā€ continued Dr. Egbert, ā€œwill center on images actually taken by the Wright brothers as well as many photographs by Mayfield.ā€

ā€œThe GMAHS Collectors Club is a wonderful way for our community history fans to get together on a variety of interesting topics,ā€ said Donna Amann, administrator, GMAHS. ā€œWe are excited to host Dr. Egbert at our inaugural event and pleased to help showcase such a wonderful exhibit of Wright brothersā€™ images and information.ā€
