The “Mariah Carey movie” filmed in Wyoming will be previewed on the Hallmark Channel on Saturday, December 19 at 8:00 PM.  The movie was filmed on Wyoming Avenue, Village Green, Wyoming Pastry Shop, Wyoming Middle School, and other areas up and down Wyoming Avenue.*

Here is a description of the movie from the Hallmark Channel’s website:

“A Christmas Melody” revolves around Kristin (Lacey Chabert), a beautiful, stylish divorcee who is a talented clothing designer and her young daughter. Kristin has just had to close her small Manhattan boutique to return to her Ohio home town and live in her parents’ former home. It’s an adjustment for Kristin and Emily – especially when she runs into her former high school rival Melissa (Mariah Carey). Melissa is president of the PTA and tries to make Kristen feel as unwelcome as possible. Kristen and Emily struggle to find their new normal with the help of the music teacher Danny (Brennan Elliott) and Kristin’s Aunt Sarah (Kathy Najimy), the local coffee shop owner. With a little holiday magic and music, Kristin and Emily find that home is where the heart is.

Attorney General DeWine announces RadioShack gift-card holders may be eligible for refunds

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine today announced that consumers who have unused gift cards from the former RadioShack, can file claims to seek refunds for remaining card balances.

acct-plus-sidebar“Consumers who have unused RadioShack gift cards may be able to get their money back,” Attorney General DeWine said. “We’re encouraging eligible Ohioans to take advantage of this opportunity.”

Consumers can file claims at www.oldradioshackgiftcards.com from now until Dec. 2, 2016, to seek a refund.

The claims process was established under a settlement led by Texas and supported by Ohio, 22 other states, and the District of Columbia to protect consumers after RadioShack filed for bankruptcy earlier in 2015.

Under a court order approving the settlement, gift cards purchased from a RadioShack retail store, from RadioShack’s website, or from RadioShack authorized sellers (Safeway, Incomm, or PointMobl) generally will be treated as priority claims in the bankruptcy court and paid in full.

Cards that do not qualify as “priority,” such as those acquired through merchandise returns or promotions, will be paid as general unsecured claims and may not receive any payment.

Supporting Texas in the settlement agreement were: Ohio, Arizona, Arkansas, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nevada, New Hampshire, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia.

More information about the claims process is available at www.oldradioshackgiftcards.com.

Did you know you can put hold on cable, phone, and internet services while out of town?

Are you headed to visit loved ones for the holiday season or spending the winter months where it’s warm? If so,  you may be eligible for a seasonal hold on your cable, internet and phone services.

tano-adThis hold will drop your bill to just a small monthly fee and will save you the hassle of disconnecting and reconnecting your services.  Depending on your cable provider, the hold could be put in place for as little as one month to a maximum of nine months.

“Ohioans may not know about this program when they’re leaving town for an extended period,” Commerce Director Jacqueline T. Williams said. “We want to simplify the transition from Ohio to their second home and back.”

Cable providers have their own requirements for program eligibility, but generally all require that a customer is in good standing with the company and has no outstanding charges on their account.

You should contact your cable provider to find out more about their rates and requirements.

Ohioans who have questions or concerns regarding their cable service or need assistance resolving an issue are asked to please contact Commerce’s Cable TV Consumer Hotline at 1-800-686-7826.

  • Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board offers mini-grants

Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board offers mini-grants

BATAVIA, Ohio – The Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board (MHRB) will again offer “mini-grants” in 2016 to fund activities that promote positive mental health and prevent substance abuse.

The board is looking for innovative projects that will positively affect mental health and/or prevent substance abuse for any age group. A total up to $60,000, from the board’s levy funds, is available for programs serving Clermont County residents.  The maximum funding per project is $5,000. The grant period is Jan. 1, 2016, through June 30, 2017. Any organized group in Clermont County – with the exception of the contract agencies of the Mental Health and Recovery Board – can apply for funding.

Previously funded applicants are eligible to apply. Applicants must have a financial structure in place to account for the awarded funds. Funds may not be used to cover ongoing operating expenses.

To apply for a mini-grant, please submit a brief proposal that includes the name, address, email address and phone number of the contact person, a description of the activity/purpose for which the grant will be used, an explanation of how the activity will promote positive mental health and/or prevent substance abuse, a description of what part of the activity the grant will fund if used with other monies, the date(s) of activity, and the amount of the funding request.

Mini-grant funds cannot be used to purchase equipment such as iPads, iPods, tablets or other electronic items.  The funds can be used for materials, supplies, and/or food for activities planned.

Proposals must be submitted no later than Monday, Dec. 21, 2015, to: Mini-Grant Project, c/o Melissa Burke, Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board, 2337 Clermont Center Drive, Batavia, OH 45103.

Last year, the MHRB funded a total of 13 mini-grants to 18 separate organizations. Seven schools in Clermont County received grants that assisted in activities to help children stay drug-free and establish mentoring programs. In addition, grants were awarded to other agencies providing services directed to community members, such as the Coalition for a Drug-Free Clermont County and SOLACE Clermont.

Any group receiving funding is required to submit a report to the Mental Health and Recovery Board on its efforts and resulting outcomes following completion of the activity. A final accounting of funds must be submitted within 60 days of the end of the activity. All unused funds must be returned to the MHRB.

It is possible that mini-grants may not be available in the future or that a project funded once may not receive funds a second time, so mini-grants should be viewed as one-time only funds.

If you have any questions about applying for these grants, call the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board at 513-732-5400.

Third grade students travel back in time at Governor Bebb Nature Preserve

    LESGovernorBebb
LES students learned to make candles as part of the hands-on learning experience at Governor Bebb Nature Preserve.

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland Elementary School (LES) third-grade students went back to the 1800’s to learn Thursday, Oct. 29, when the class traveled to Okeana to visit the Governor Bebb Nature Preserve. Students toured a small village and were able to see how characteristics of the past have helped to shape communities today. They also saw how communities have changed from the past to the present day.

“The students were thrilled to be able to tour the village and experience what it was like to live in the 1800’s,” said LES Teacher Summer Mangano. “Making candles was one of the many activities that the students got to enjoy. This is another great field trip for our third grade students that we hope to continue each year!”

“We are so fortunate to have a supportive PTA, and that group funded this learning experience,” said LES Principal Jennifer Forren. “This is a perfect real-world educational complement to the history lessons our students study in the classroom, and we sincerely thank the LEPTA for making field trips like this possible for our students.”
