Centerville, OH- On Tuesday, November 7th, Loveland High School Varsity women’s soccer took on Olentangy Liberty at the Centerville Alumni stadium to compete in the Division I Final-4. Loveland’s Colleen “Jelly” Swift scored the winning goal with only 1:17 left in overtime.

The Olentangy Liberty Patriots held a one-point lead through most of the second half until, with less that 10 minutes remaining, Senior Brice Grieshop scored. The teams battled it out for the last several minutes as rowdy crowds shouted from both sides. Loveland held more black-and-orange clad spectators with signs and face paint than seats on their side of the stadium, spilling out along the fence. The game ended in a tie to be decided by overtime.

As with their previous game, Loveland held their own in overtime until just over a minute remained. Senior Sarah Harter assisted Colleen “Jelly” Swift for the winning goal to end a tense semifinal game.

“The whole team worked so hard all game. We got down a goal, and we fought right back. I’m so glad I was able to do my part by putting it in the back of the net. It could’ve been any one of us,” senior Colleen Swift told Loveland Magazine.

Loveland will take on Perrysburg at the MAPFRE stadium in Columbus for the state title on Friday, 11/10 at 7 PM. Perrysburg has a comparatively lower record (17-2-3 win-loss-tie to Lovelands 21-1-0), but the team is from a different region with varying levels of overall talent. Loveland is seeded #2 whereas Perrysburg holds #7 in the OHSAA bracket. If the past two games have been any indication of the future, it will likely be an exciting game.

Loveland has followed through with “The Mission” (as players and students have been calling their postseason competition) and will compete at MAPFRE stadium in Columbus– the player’s goal from day one. MAPFRE stadium is home to the Columbus Crew and will host Loveland again after their previous loss to Walsh Jesuit in 2015.

“The ultimate goal for our season is to finish what we started 2 years ago, which would be going to state and winning,” Goalie and senior, Lauren Parker told Loveland Magazine after the team’s first conference game. Since that game, Loveland women’s soccer has only lost once (out of conference).

“There isn’t a school in the state of Ohio that has a true following like this. These kids deserve it, but they’re very appreciative at the same time. The crowd we heard tonight was humbling to me– I am truly humbled by the reaching out and the support we’ve received, and we’re going to ask that they come out and support us one more time on Friday,” head coach Todd Kelly told Loveland Magazine.

Loveland Robotics competes against rival schools

With the new game comes new robots, new parts and equipment, and new expenses. The Loveland Robotics teams are hosting their annual fundraising dinner on Friday, November 10 from 6:00-8:30pm. This year’s dinner will feature spaghetti with choice of meat (meatballs, chicken, or sausage), sauce (marinara and alfredo), and vegetables (broccoli or peppers and onions) along with salad, bread, and dessert. The dinner will be held at American Legion Post 256, 897 Oakland Rd, Loveland, OH 45140. An $8.00 donation is encouraged. Proceeds help the teams register for competition, buy parts, and attend workshops.

High School Robotics teams are back at work after the summer off season. Both 12 student teams have begun building, programming, and designing after the release of the new game, Relic Recovery. Last year, the teams found success– Team 10464 competed in the State Tournament for the second straight year, and Team 5040 traveling to the World Championship marking the first time in Loveland history a team has competed on the world level. With the new season quickly approaching, both teams are hard at work hoping to achieve the same and higher levels of success.

    The Loveland Robotics Team

This year’s game, Relic Recovery, features 6x6x6 inch cubes called glyphs which teams will need to place in a designated area called the cryptobox. Points will be earned not only for placing individual glyphs, but also for making rows, columns, and special pictures. In the last thirty seconds, the teams are able to extend over the wall to place a plastic yellow man, known as the relic, in a special scoring zone earning more points the further out you can go. This game features some elements never before seen in competition.

Loveland Robotics hopes that you join them for the first public reveal of their competition robots along with a good meal and a good time.

Loveland women’s soccer defeat Springboro; advances to final 4 tomorrow, Tuesday 11/7 [with video]

On Saturday, October 28th, Loveland Varsity Women’s soccer defeated Springboro in what was essentially a rematch of their fall from victory last year. In overtime with 1:19 remaining, senior Sarah Harter scored the only goal of the game, earning Loveland the regional title. Tomorrow, Tuesday 11/7, the team will take on Powell Olentangy Liberty at Centerville Alumni Stadium at 7PM. Loveland’s Division I team will compete with the hopes of advancing to state finals at the MAPFRE Stadium in Columbus.

Girls Soccer State Final Four game information

“The minutes leading up to the goal were a complete grind-out by the team. It was a well fought game by both teams, and it came down to who wanted it more and who was going to dig deeper to put one in the back of the net. I am so proud to be a part of this team. We are truly a family and I think that each one of us sold out for each other and that’s what won the game,” senior and player, Sarah Harter, told Loveland Magazine.

Watch Coach Todd Kelly speak after Loveland claimed the regional title:

“This team has been working hard since the beginning of June and we have invested so much into season, it’s impossible not to sell out for each other. I absolutely love this team and when I had the opportunity to step on that field during over time, I knew I had to make the moments matters (as my dad always tells me to do). There are people who played all 94 minutes of that game who made that moment possible for us and for me who really deserve the credit for the goal and ultimately the game,” Harter told Loveland, reflecting on her winning goal.

Video by Loveland Senior, Sam Russo:

While the team has seen success, the game against Olentangy Liberty will no doubt be a challenge. Olentangy Liberty holds a comparatively lower record (13-5-3 win-loss-tie to Loveland’s 20-1-0), but the teams are from different regions with contrasting overall levels of skill.

“I’m anticipating winning the game and heading back to MAPFRE stadium to finish what we started two years ago,” Senior and goalie, Lauren Parker told Loveland Magazine.

If the team wins, they will compete at MAPFRE Stadium (where professional soccer team Columbus Crew plays) this Friday, 11/10.

Loveland, OH– On Tuesday October 31st, Loveland High School Varsity women’s soccer defeated Fairfield 2-1, advancing the team in the division 1 Ohio tournament. The team will face Springboro high school– the same team Loveland fell to last year at the same point in the season. Loveland will take on Springboro at Lebanon Junior High on Saturday, 11/4 at 7PM for regional finals.

By the end of halftime at the Halloween game against Fairfield, the score sat deadlocked at 0-0. Early into the second half, Senior Brice Grieshop scored the first goal of the game. Alyson Yeager scored the second goal against fairfield, ending the game 2-1. Loveland will advance into the final 8 in the OHSAA women’s soccer bracket.

“I think we have the same amount of confidence we always have. We know that If we do what we do best we have a great opportunity of winning the game. It’s going to be hard game but we are super excited,” Goalie, Lauren Parker told Loveland Magazine. Parker holds the school record for consecutive shutouts.

Springboro holds a record of 16-1-2 win-loss-tie– only slightly below Loveland’s 17-1-0 record. Last year, Springboro overcame a 2-0 deficit in order to beat Loveland 3-2, ending Loveland’s season. Saturday’s game will, in essence, be a rematch of the 2016 regional final.

“Last year was a sad game but this year I think our edge is that we have a work ethic that is unmeasurable. No matter what, everyone is working for each other,” Parker finished.

Loveland, Ohio – Loveland High School Varsity women’s soccer sits undefeated in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference (ECC), and will continue to, as the team is calling it, “start the mission” as they begin the tournament season. Currently, the team is 7-0-0 win-loss-tie in conference and 15-1-0 overall. In 2015, Loveland advanced all the way to the state championship, where they fell to Walsh Jesuit. This year, they aim to return.

The team has defeated all conference challengers– many by an objectively wide margin. The team currently holds a better conference record than they did in the 2015 season when they traveled to Columbus. Loveland women’s Varsity soccer is near the top of the state and nation polls. The team set a school record for the least goals given up in a regular season, having only lost three goals. Goalie and senior Lauren Parker claimed the third place all time state record for OHSAA shutouts, performing 45 career shutouts.

Last year, the team ended the conference season 6-0-0 and 19-1-1 overall. The team’s postseason competition ended after falling to Springboro 3-2. However, players claim that this year’s team holds different strengths than past years.

“For me, this season is very different from last year. Last year everyone was really experienced and had played with each other for a while. This year our team relies a lot on hard work and is essentially a new team, so we have had to adjust to playing together. It has taken a lot of hard work and communication but it has made all of us closer and we have to work for each other on and off the field. It has made me appreciate my coaches and my teammates even more than I did last season,” senior Riley Massey explained.

Record holding goalie Lauren Parker corroborated the claim that the team has shown exceptional effort this season.

“The work ethic of the team is incredible. Everyone works like there is no tomorrow, and I believe that’s our strongest weapon by far. Everyone works hard no matter what,” Parker told Loveland Magazine.

Elise Reynolds’ throw-in while being watched by coach Ted Kelly.

As the team advances into the tournament, they aim to go back to  the state tournament. Players hope they can shine above the competition.

“I think we will stand out from other teams in the tournament because we have grit. Giving up isn’t an option because we play for each other and we play hard from the time the game starts to the time that the game ends. The polls and the rankings are an honor but at the end of the day, they don’t really matter to us. All that matters is that every player left it all on the field and played as hard as they could to the best of their ability,” Massey concluded.
