Numerous sources: Loveland’s Drew Plitt headed to Bengal training camp

Loveland, Ohio – Geoff Hobson the Senior Writer for Bengals.com reported yesterday, “Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said after Friday’s practice that they’ll be without quarterback Joe Burrow for several weeks and wouldn’t say what that means for the Sept. 10 opener in Cleveland.”

Chris Roling in the Bengals Wire wrote yesterday, “In the wake of the injury to quarterback Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals head coach  Zac Taylor had confirmed the team will add another quarterback to take training camp and preseason reps with Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning.

“Not too long after that revelation, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that the Bengals hosted quarterbacks Reid Sinnett and Drew Plitt on workouts.

“Plitt is the name Bengals fans will recognize. A Loveland High School product, Plitt was with the team last summer before going on to find success in the XFL.”

Ian Rapoport the “National Insider for NFL Network and NFL.com.” has reported, “With #Bengals QB Joe Burrow sidelined for several weeks with a calf strain, Cincy is working out two former XFL QBs — Reid Sinnett and Drew Plitt (who was with the #Bengals in camp last year).
There has been no official statement about Pitt from the Bengals.
Plitt has been with the Arlington Renegades of the the XFL.

Plitt has previous experience playing in the pre-season opener for the Bengals. Loveland Magazine reported in August, 2022, “The only thing that stopped six-for-six Bengal rookie Drew Plitt Friday night at the 2022 pre-season opener in the newly renamed Paycor Stadium was when he found the endzone via a 25 yd. floater to wide-receiver Kendric Pryor. Plitt threw for 77 yds with a perfect rating of 158.33. Plitt completed the Bengals’ first touchdown in Paycor Stadium history.” (Only one thing stopped six-for-six Bengal rookie Drew Plitt Friday…)

Plitt went to high school in Loveland, Ohio where he played quarterback for the Tigers. His biggest achievement at Loveland was leading the school to the 2013 Division II state title which was the school’s first state championship ever. In 2015, he threw for over 1,400 yards with 15 passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in ten games. He was the team captain and was honorable mention all-district as a senior.

  • Improvement and upgrades scheduled for Miami Township pickleball courts

Improvement and upgrades scheduled for Miami Township pickleball courts

Miami Township, Ohio – The Township has made this announcement about improvements and upgrades to Miami Township’s pickleball courts.

    ________________________

Regarding the new courts at Miami Meadows, to lessen the angle of the slope from the center of the court to the baselines, and to have a more consistent second surface underneath the paint to remove the low points that collect rain water, contractor JK Meurer will come in August and add a new layer of asphalt that will be feathered from the center of the courts and have a deeper layer of the asphalt added to the ends of the courts. A 30-day curing will then need to occur. Then the subcontractor Schubert Tennis, who has worked on many pickleball courts, will come after that, and add a finish course, repaint, and restripe the whole area. It makes sense to do this in August when the heat is most extreme, meaning the amount of playing time decreases, but can still have the multiple steps completed before cold weather begins in the fall. Asphalt and paint work are not as effective in cold weather. So, this will be large scale work that will make for longer lasting improvements but will unfortunately mean that we will need to completely close the courts in the August/September timeframe.

We also have been seeking quotes from contractors to fill in the cracks in the pickleball and tennis courts at Community Park and repaint and reline them after that. The court specialty companies are backed up with work right now in so many private projects, pickleball and tennis clubs and other communities, so we cannot get a date, yet, on when one could perform the work, but we continue to push to get a reputable contractor to want to perform the work at Community Park.

Regarding Miami Riverview Park, we hope to be able to add pickleball courts on the existing tennis court there. That work had to be delayed because the courts have shifted, and it is a much larger scope of work as we need to have a geotechnical engineer review the soil conditions under the courts that have shifted and caused very severe issues. We even had to have a drilling rig come on those courts to get core samples of the soil and rock underneath. After we have the appropriate solution for the correct permanent, we will have a construction company perform the necessary work to stabilize the ground under the courts. After the large fix and repaving and coating of the playing surfaces are done, we believe the court can be restriped to have a dual purpose for pickleball in addition to the existing tennis court, and possibly, basketball.

[Video] Mom and dad taxi stand dedicated at LHS to honor Josh Carrington

Loveland, Ohio – On July 14, 2023 as the sun was about to set a mom and dad taxi stand, a granite, laser-engraved bench was dedicated at the lower entrance to the Loveland High School outdoor athletic complex. The family of Josh Carrington wanted to honor his all-too-brief life and thank the School District for the myriad ways he was nurtured while he attended Loveland High School.

Family brainstorming led to the vision of a commemorative bench that would give athletes a place to sit in the shade while waiting for a ride home after practice or competition.

In this LOVELAND MAGAZINE TV video, you can watch the dedication ceremony and listen to fond memories of Josh from family members. A former Tiger classmate, a teammate of Josh is interviewed. Amy Van Strien, a former District psychologist talked about how involved Josh was in helping her with her programming. There was rock painting, the release of paper balloons, and many hugs.

The painted rocks will be placed beneath the tree next to the Angles by the Trail mural in downtown Loveland.

Josh graduated from Loveland High School with the class of 2010. Over those four years, Josh participated in football, track (pole vaulting), and wrestling. He was nicknamed “Josh the Spladle” for his wrestling moves.

Josh was also on the Homecoming Court his Senior Year. Josh passed in 2015.
