Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland City School District’s educational leader and the Loveland Police Department’s chief will team up to challenge each other at the upcoming Seth Mitchell HERO 5K Saturday, Oct. 1. ballet-tech-adSuperintendent Chad Hilliker and Chief Sean Rahe will compete to see which leader can boast the best time, while delivering a special message about Tiger Pride in the spirit of the 1997 Loveland High School graduate the 5K honors, Captain Seth Mitchell, who was killed in action in Afghanistan.

“Captain Mitchell embodied what Tiger Pride is all about – care, respect and responsibility – and it is my privilege to be part of this memorial race to honor the life he lived,” said Hilliker. “I have such respect for the Loveland Police Department, and sincerely appreciate the close relationship we enjoy. Chief Rahe and his team cannot be beat – with the exception, of course, of the HERO 5K. I do intend to bring in the best time between the two of us.”

“Seth Mitchell bravely answered Loveland’s call to service,” said Rahe. “I am proud to honor Seth’s legacy of leadership and service, and the Loveland Police Department, in the Seth Mitchell HERO Run. I am also proud to be joining Chad Hilliker on the run. Our agencies work very closely on a variety of community projects, and that is thanks to Chad’s leadership. Chad is a great competitor. I’m certainly the underdog in the race. But everyone likes an underdog. Let’s see what happens.”

    sam-smith-headshot-web-bby Sam Smith

Loveland, Ohio – On the clear afternoon of Wednesday, September the 21st, Womens Varsity Tennis took on Milford at the new Loveland courts.  “We’ve had a great winning season,” coach Dara Hudson said. “We are currently 13 and 3, and this is the best since I’ve been coaching that we’ve done, and so we’re excited.” continued the Loveland french teacher and varsity tennis coach. Loveland also honored senior athletes before the match.

Before matches began and between matches, the connection the team felt was obvious. Inside jokes, encouragement and the genuine camaraderie was without question.

Loveland High School recently constructed new tennis courts. Before, courts belonged to the city, rather than the school. The new courts are in much better shape, but most importantly, they have provided a new home for Loveland Tennis. The team claimed that the new courts have been a unifying factor.

“It is a family. That’s a good way to describe it. The unity is amazing, they’ve had lots of bonding things. One of the things we did this year was go to Ronald McDonald House and serve one night,” explained coach Hudson.

Captain and leader of Loveland Womens varsity tennis is Senior, Payton Geers. Despite being faced with some of the very best players in Ohio, Geers has a record of 10-5. “She has lead by example. She has gotten compliments from coaches all over about her court etiquette and everything she does right. She is just a great, great tennis player and kid.” said coach Hudson. Payton Geers’ sportsmanship was outstanding, never getting frustrated and being friendly to her opponent even when matches were close. Geers was voted Womens Tennis Athlete of the week by MaxPreps/JJHuddle Ohio for the week of the September 20.

“She has lead by example. She has gotten compliments from coaches all over about her court etiquette and everything she does right. She is just a great, great tennis player and kid.”

Girls varsity tennis took time to honor the seniors on the team. For senior day, each player was given a handmade poster from their peers. Athletic director Julie Renner gave praise to senior players, accompanied by family– both by blood and by team unity.

Loveland is now 14-5, 5-1. Trailing Turpin (6-0, 10-5) in the ECC and began competing in the Coaches Classic over the weekend.

The 2016 Loveland homecoming game began with an overcast community tailgate and cookout.  As pre-game festivities began to wrap up, the football game against Withrow was postponed and the field evacuated due to lightning. However, it would take more than that to dampen the enthusiasm the two schools brought.

Tied after 3 but Oak Hills rolls over Tigers in 4th

    ryan-bagnoli-1

Ryan Bagnoli scored one touchdown and ran for 27 total yards

Loveland, Ohio – Smooth as silk, Tiger senior Luke Waddell returned the opening kickoff for a 95-yard touchdown on the season home-opener. Rough as a cobb, Tigers defending the passing accuracy of Oak Hills’ Jacob Woycke’s 22/32, 327 night.

Waddell added 85 more rushing yards before leaving the game late in the second quarter to sit out the remainder; being cautious to mend from a hard hit.

Oak Hills put together 28 first downs vs. Loveland’s 15. The Tigers were only successful on 1 of 9 third downs and turned the ball over 4 times.

The game was tied at 21 going into the locker room, tied again at 28 at 4:14 in the 3rd, but an all Highlander 4th, scoring 3 more TD’s.

    Highlanders 45. Tigers 28.

Loveland (0-3) hosts Withrow (1-2) this Friday at 7 PM for their Homecoming and first ECC game. Withrow has lost to Dunbar 36-30, Mason 48-6, and beat Aiken last week 42-36.
