Friday, March 13 COVID-19 Update

Warrior Families,

By order of Governor Mike Dewine, we will take the necessary step of closing school effective Monday, March 16 – Friday, April 3, 2020.  This includes the Goshen Learning Academy. We have a plan in place that will continue the educational process. Building principals and teachers will disseminate remote learning sessions via email and paper letters which will come home with students on Friday, March 13.

We will begin the remote learning sessions upon our return from Spring Break on Monday, March 23, 2020.

Marr/Cook and Spaulding

All K-5 teachers will send home the first two weeks of lessons prior to spring break to be completed March 23-April 3.

Teachers will be available 9:00-3:00 Monday-Friday to provide support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers via email if your student needs help.

Be on the lookout for building level communications and check our COVID-19 website for more details.

Goshen Middle & Goshen High School

For GMS and GHS students, we will utilize online learning opportunities.  Teachers have communicated with students the online opportunities that will be available. The approach is similar to the classwork and homework process they use every day.

If your child does not have access to the internet, paper copies will be made available at the school.

Teachers will be available from 9:00-3:00, Monday-Friday to provide support. Please do not hesitate to reach out to teachers via email if your student needs help.

Food Service/Breakfast/Lunch Opportunities

Currently, we are attempting to coordinate an opportunity to provide mobile breakfast and lunch deliveries to our students during the remote learning days, starting on March 23.  The tentative plan is to meet at designated stops throughout the district and deliver bagged meals to anyone 18 and under. More information, including pickup/delivery locations, will be available soon.

Athletics/Extra-Curricular Activities

All school-sponsored teams and clubs will follow the cancellation order, this includes all athletic and academic teams and clubs.  Our buildings will also be closed to any community-based teams or organizations.

Our desired outcome is that students continue to have access to relevant, meaningful learning opportunities using our existing systems.  Given the circumstances, we feel this is the best way to deliver instruction to 3,000 students while keeping them safe from the spread of the virus.  Thank you for your support and understanding.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s principal/teacher or visit our COVID-19 webpage for more information.  We will be in touch with more information about the length of the closure, food service opportunities, and remote learning instructions as we get closer to the end of Spring Break.

Sincerely,

Darrell EdwardsSuperintendent Goshen Local Schools
