The seventh Annual Golden Lion Awards Film Festival was held on Saturday, April 9, in Ursuline Academy’s Besl Theatre. The event is co-sponsored by Ursuline Academy and Watkins College of Design, Art, & Film.
Loveland High School student and Loveland Magazine video producer and editor Dean Parker, won 1st place in the Short Film category and Best of Show for his recently released film, Regret.
Throughout the last nine years, students from across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana have submitted films that range from comedies and documentaries to news stories and music videos.
Prior to the film festival, films are evaluated by a judging panel. The night of the event, award winning films in each category are shown to the entire audience. Throughout the film festival, all entries are available for viewing on laptops. Winners in each film category receive either a Golden Lion, White Lion, or Mountain Lion award. Before the conclusion of the festival, judges vote on the Special Recognition Awards, including Best Cinematography, Best Original Screenplay, Most Inspirational, and Critic’s Choice: Best of Show. Winners of all Special Recognition awards receive scholarships to Watkins College of Art, Design, and Film, the event’s main sponsor.
Parker posted the announcement on Facebook saying, “I share this with my awesome cast and crew, without them this wouldn’t have been possible. Thank you guys for all your hard work, this is incredible.”
Regret is about a teenage boy who helps the girl of his dreams pack before she moves away. As he struggles to find the words to confess his love, he pictures what life would be like if he had her.
