Dear Officers and Friends,

I am deeply, deeply, sorry for your loss.

The murder and assassination of members of your family last night in Dallas cuts to my heart. Yet still, I can only conceive the loss you are feeling today and know it would be of a magnitude unimaginable.

Quoting and paraphrasing from the poem by W. H. Auden:

 

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,

Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,

Silence the pianos and with muffled drum

Bring out the coffins, let the mourners come. 

Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,

Let the police officers wear black cotton gloves. 

I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;

Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;

Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.

For nothing now can ever come to any good.

 

Amid my grief and horror ––my thoughts, prayer, and gratitude are with you today as you go about your work in our community.

  2. I want to publicly thank the Loveland Magazine for its continuing support of the Loveland Police Department. We must find a way to heal the division in this country before more lives are lost.

  3. Editor’s Response: Loveland Magazine does not endorse signing this petition and believes that Black Lives Matter is in no way responsible for the killing of the police officers in Dallas.

    • Ha ha ha. Come on, stop with the party lock step. Don’t be a water carrier. Look for for the truth.
