by Terri Carter,
The Holiday Spirit was in the air on November 18th as 250 pantry families received their holiday baskets provided by L.I.F.E. Food Pantry. Each family was given a box filled to bursting with everything they would need for both their Thanksgiving and their Christmas/Hanukkah meals. Families also received a generous gift card from Ron’s Meat Market. In addition to the holiday food staples there was a tasting table for new recipe ideas with ingredient bags available for clients choosing to be a bit more adventurous with their holiday menu.
A BIG “Thank You!” to Tony’s Restaurant for the potatoes and delicious pies, Loveland School’s Pass It On Program, Loveland School volunteers (students, teachers and parents), the Loveland community at large for their support, CHCA (Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) for basket donations, Prince Of Peace Youth Group and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church for the use of their facilities. Without your amazing support days like this would be impossible.
The L.I.F.E. Pantry, 101 S. Lebanon Rd (located in the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, at the corner of Lebanon Rd and W Loveland Ave), offers services to residents within the Loveland City School District or members of our supporting churches.
We have a tremendous group of volunteers and are always looking for new members of the L.I.F.E. volunteer team. Would you like to get involved or know more about our many programs? If so please contact us by phone: 513-583-8222, by email: [email protected], or visit our website: http://www.lovelandlifefoodpantry.org/ or Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/Loveland-Interfaith-Effort-LIFE-134030660008967/
Were there no food items provided for those who celebrate Kwanzaa?
I prefer to say “Holy Day” in place of holiday.
After all, Holy Days is what they were before being manipulated by date and description.
You know,Christmas and Easter.
I’m just saying because I think accuracy and truth matter.
Christmas was a Pagan holiday before it was a “Holy Day”. Unlike the timing of Easter, it is not meant to be accurate with his actual birth. Be careful making statements like accuracy & truth matter, because a lot of times you can be wrong & not know it. I’m a Christian so don’t take this as an attack. My comment is to say “Merry Christmas” anyway despite the trend of Happy Holidays to not offend people. If that is your belief, then you should say it. Just accept people saying “Happy _____” for whatever their belief is. That is what I do.
Quick Wikipedia search – Many popular customs associated with Christmas developed independently of the commemoration of Jesus’ birth, with certain elements having origins in pre-Christian festivals that were celebrated around the winter solstice by pagan populations who were later converted to Christianity.
