Loveland, Ohio Memorial Day Service

LOVELAND, OHIO – The 2004 Memorial Day address was given by Loveland, Ohio Police Chief, Col. Dennis Rees.

Colonel Rees is a thirty-two year veteran of Law enforcement. He served with the Cincinnati Police Division, retiring as a Captain in 1995. Chief Rees served for twenty years on the SWAT Team, and served as Cincinnati’s chief hostage negotiator.

He previously served in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain. He was assigned as an Infantry platoon leader in Vietnam where he was awarded numerous medals including the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with the Silver Star, two Bronze Stars for valor, and the Purple Heart.

Colonel Rees is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati, Magna Cum Laude, and was named Dean’s Scholar at the University of Louisville School of Justice Administration.

Colonel Rees is now in his ninth year as Loveland Police Chief. He spoke about the debt he owes to the men he served with in Vietnam.

Council member Rob Weisgerber read a proclamation previously signed by Mayor Brad Greenberg supporting the newly dedicated World War II memorial in Washington D. C. Both Weisgerber and Greenberg recently fought a losing battle for nearly two years trying to prevent Loveland citizens from voting on a zoning referendum.

George Anderson, a World War II Vet attended the service. Mr. Anderson organized the Memorial Day service for decades. This year he simply paid his respects as did the approximately 220 other people at the Veteran’s Memorial on West Loveland Avenue.
