ā€œWe have some soul-searching to do. This is not new. Itā€™s been going on for decades.ā€Ā

ā€“ President Obama

President Obama on Freddie Grayā€™s Death: “This is Not New, and We Shouldnā€™t Pretend that Itā€™s New.”

Every American has role to play in tackling this longstanding challenge. We don’t just pay attention to these communities when a CVS burns, and we donā€™t just pay attention when a young man gets shot or has his spine snapped,” the President said. We should be ā€œpaying attention all the time because we consider those kids our kids, and we think theyā€™re important and that they shouldnā€™t be living in poverty and violence.ā€

  1. What does President Obama mean when he calls these violent rioters “our kids?” If my kids behaved like wild animals, I would ensure they were corrected and seeking or engaging in productive activities. Unfortunately, 50 years of handouts and billions of taxpayer-funded experiments have been unsuccessful in either correcting or teaching the meaning of a productive lifestyle to those he refers to as “our kids.”
