Teenage Hadebe earned his first assist for the Orange and Blue in the process in his first home start.

Loveland Art Festival draws 4,000 visitors

Loveland, Ohio – The Loveland Art Festival was held on Saturday, September 7 at Whistle Stop Clay Works in Loveland, Ohio. The show drew an estimated 4,000 people and highlighted local artists from a wide variety of genres, including pottery, fiber art, photographs, jewelry, paintings, wood working, charcoal drawing, water colors, and mixed media.

The show featured two non-profits: Angels by the Trail and the Loveland Legacy Foundation, that had educational material to educate show goers about their organizations’ missions. In addition, the show had eleven high school art students who displayed, talked about and sold their work.

“The Loveland Art Festival has partnered with Loveland High School for five years and is pleased to facilitate this real world experience for art students looking to sell their work,” said Festival organizer, Bonnie McNett the owner of Whistle Stop Clay Works.

“It was an amazing show. The weather was nearly perfect and we had a record number of people attend the art show. Shoppers browsed over seventy artists, listened to live music and got a bite to eat from the El Vaquero food truck,” commented Patricia Franklin, one of the show organizers. “We were truly humbled by the community’s support of the artists, high school students and the two non-profits,” she added.

The Loveland Art Festival awarded $1,000 in prize money for the winning artists. Amy Noffsinger won first place ($500), Kate Albert took second place ($250), Clinton Wood III was awarded third place ($100) and Kate Irwin-Rutter was awarded honorable mention.

The People’s Choice winners, who were voted on by the public, were Helen Atkins and Jennifer Kaplan, each receiving $75.

Photo Slideshow by Andrew Sichak: FC Cincinnati Wins 4-3 over the Philadelphia Union

    by Chris Ball

Loveland, OhioLoveland Magazine photographer Andrew Sichak was on the sideline for FC Cincinnati’s thrilling 4-3 win over the Philadelphia Union last Wednesday. He snapped some amazing photos of the squad as they improved to 12-3-3 (39 points) on the season after the win.

The game itself was one of the best of the year for FCC as it was a back and forth tilt with some amazing goals on both sides. For FCC Luca Orellano launched a 60-yard beauty that beat the Union keeper Oliver Semmle.

After the Union tied it up in stoppage time in the second half, Cincinnati’s Luciano Acosta came through like the all-star he is and took it upon himself to win it all for FCC.

  • Watch and Listen to Loveland’s Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade

Watch and Listen to Loveland’s Memorial Day Ceremony and Parade

by Andrew Sichak and David Miller,

Loveland, Ohio – The City of Loveland’s Memorial Day Parade and Ceremony was on Monday, May 27. The event started with a parade an ended with a ceremony at the Loveland Veterans’ Memorial in the West Loveland Historic District.

The ceremony featured a speech by Colonel J Scott Calder, a Loveland High School grad with a long career in the US Air Force Medical Services.

The things Col. Calder highlighted were:

    • Not all combat injuries are readily apparent.

    • Tales of his most rewarding military experiences.

    • During his 2009 tour his unit cared for over 300 combat casualties a month.

    • He honored the incredible strength of Gold Star and military families that have endured an unimaginable sacrifice and loss.

    • When the injured he cared for were first able to speak, the first thing they asked was not about themselves, but of their friends. “Did anyone else get hurt?” Too often, he had to be the first one to tell the wounded soldier that their friend had died.

    • Over 80% of the deaths are non-battlefield deaths.

    • How to talk with the many current and former veterans that never openly speak about the pain and struggles that haunt them. Their injuries extend far beyond the battlefield. You must do the hard thing beyond just asking, “How are you? Persist! Your efforts will not be wasted and you may send them on a path to healing.

    • We owe a special debt to the Gold Star Families. Thank the families who gave so much.
