Loveland, Ohio – We are pleased to present Loveland Magazine’s Pets of the Month for January! The community of Loveland provided us with some very festive Pet of the Month photos and we are beyond thrilled to celebrate these pets’ holiday photos with YOU the readers!

Introducing Cooper, a 13-year-old Cocker Spaniel, and Molly, a 7-year-old Lab-Mix that owner Cassie Sepello adopted from HART Cincinnati. Sepello told us that these two beautiful dogs are a huge part of her family’s lives, especially her kids!

“Cooper and Molly have grown up with our kids! They adore our kids and our kids adore them,” Sepello said, “They also love to go on walks around Loveland. Some of their favorite places include the Meade Park trail, Symmes park trails, and the bike path in Loveland, especially when they get to go behind Nisbet park and hop in the river!”

Sepello also shared that Molly is quite the athlete as she loves to go on runs around their neighborhood!

“Molly ran all my long runs with me when I was training for a half marathon. She was still wagging her tail after finishing a 12-mile training run! She’s definitely an endurance runner,” Sepello added.

  • LHS Grad Jillian Hayes and the UC Bearcat Women’s Basketball Team Claim the Kendle Cup Again!

LHS Grad Jillian Hayes and the UC Bearcat Women’s Basketball Team Claim the Kendle Cup Again!

    by Cassie Mattia

Cincinnati, Ohio – How about them Bearcats?!

The UC Women’s Basketball team grabbed a huge victory on Saturday beating the Xavier Muskateers, 82-73, in the 2021 Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout at Fifth Third Back Arena. This was the 43rd time Cincinnati and Xavier competed for the Kendle cup (the Crosstown Shootout trophy) making the Bearcats 26-17 in the rivalry series. Head Coach Michelle Clark-Heard is now 3-0 against Xavier since taking the head coach position. After the win on Saturday, UC is now 5-4 in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

Former Loveland High School (LHS) stand-out student-athlete Jillian Hayes has not only helped the Bearcats grab some big wins already this year, but is also making a name for herself in the AAC and the world of women’s college basketball! Hayes’ senior year at LHS was one for the books as she averaged 18.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 2 assists, and 3.1 steals per game. With those stats, Hayes was named the 2019-2020 Eastern Cincinnati Conference Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Year, 1st Team All-ECC, and LHS’s All-Time Leading Scorer (1,412), and Leading Rebounder (778). She also led the Loveland Tigers to back-to-back ECC Titles and an OHSAA Sectional Title in 2020.

Hayes not only succeeded on the basketball court at LHS she also achieved top honors in the classroom receiving an Academic Pin for her G.P.A, and recognition for her leadership and sportsmanship earning her The Principal’s Award-Outstanding Female and the OHSAA Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award.

Going into her Freshman season with the UC Bearcats Women’s Basketball Team, Hayes was selected as the No. 116 prospect in the 2020 class by the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report and was ranked as a 4-star recruit by Prospects Nation. Hayes definitely did not disappoint her Freshman year with the Bearcats despite the COVID-19 obstacles averaging 7.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1.1 blocks earning her a spot on the AAC All-Freshman Team. Hayes not only had 20 starts her Freshman season she also placed 1st among the AAC Freshman class in blocks (1.1), 2nd in defensive rebounds (4.4), and 3rd in minutes played (32.3) and assists (2.7). Hayes led the Bearcats team in steals (34) and ranked 3rd in points (182), rebounds (126), and blocks (26).

Since graduating from LHS, Hayes has had a couple of big goals in mind one being to make it to the NCAA Tournament. Thus far in her sophomore season as a team captain, she has made it very clear as to what her personal and team goals are as she has already put up double digits in points in 4 games this season. Check out Hayes’ top games thus far in her sophomore season!

    December 1st against Central Michigan (Win 59-54) – 23 points, 5 rebounds, 9/15 FG

November 27th against OSU (Loss 50-86) 16 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block, and 1 steal

November 16th against Ohio Win 62-73, 17 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals

    November 10th against Alabama A&M Win 73-60, 17 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals

Here at Loveland Magazine we love celebrating the successes of former LHS graduates, so we decided to take a trip down to Cincinnati to watch Hayes compete in the 2021 Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout. Wow were we impressed with Hayes’s ability to be a leader and produce stats that led the Bearcats to an 82-73 victory!

Hayes ended the game with 9 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals, and 4 assists, most of the stats coming in the final 4 minutes of the game, as she said, “I knew I had to turn it on and produce to get us a win!” At the half, Xavier was up 32-31, due mostly to the Bearcats 14 turnovers and 32.4 Field Goal percentage. Xavier also outrebounded the Bearcats 27-18.

Once the 2nd half of the Crosstown Shootout began Hayes and the Bearcats began to outperform Xavier. In the 4th quarter alone Cincinnati outscored Xavier, 32-20, and made 60% of their shots raising their total field goal percentage for the game to 42.4%! Cincinnati’s bench also stepped it up towards the end of the game accumulating 43 points compared to Xavier’s 9 points.

Securing the Kendle Cup wasn’t the only milestone for the Bearcats as they also had their highest-scoring game of the season, tied their season-best for 3-point shots made (6), and had 4 Bearcats for the 2nd time this season score in the double digits. Hayes said she hopes this momentum continues right into the NCAA tournament, which has been a goal of hers since she committed to playing basketball at Cincinnati.

After the Bearcats claimed the Kendle Cup once again, Loveland Magazine TV got the opportunity to interview Jillian Hayes post-game to talk about the victory, her role as a team captain, and what she believes UC will achieve this season! So without further ado, we bring to you several exclusive Crosstown Shootout videos and a one-on-one interview with UC Bearcat Sophomore Jillian Hayes!

Here are photos and video highlights from the Crosstown Shootout; Jillian Hayes with her young fans, and the award of the Kendle Cup shot by Adam Ploof, Cassie Mattia, and David Miller. (©2021)

  • Loveland’s Christmas Tree Lighting Kicks off the Holidays for the Community!

Loveland’s Christmas Tree Lighting Kicks off the Holidays for the Community!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree thank you for lighting up Loveland so beautifully!

The community gathered around one another on Saturday night as the City of Loveland celebrated its first Community Christmas Tree Lighting. The festive fun-filled night kicked off at 4 PM with local holiday gift vendors that sold everything from Hot Chocolate Bombs to homemade mitten ornaments from J Timmerman Pottery to jewelry made from silverware from Silverware to Wearable Art. Alley Boutique, Blume, and Haven Grey also participated in the festivities allowing the community to shop in their festively decorated stores until 7 PM.

The beautifully illuminated Browns Crossing along the Loveland Bike trail featured local food trucks Travelin Tom’s Coffee and Hot Chocolate and Smokin Inferno BBQ, as well as Christmas activities for the kids, a vintage holiday photoshoot with Old School Pix and the infamous Dancing Elves, Toys For Tots Stuff a Cruiser Toy Drive hosted by the Loveland Citizens Police Academy Alumni, and Trailside Provisions Christmas Cupcakes, Brownies, Caramel Apples, and several holiday gourmet popcorn combinations. The Loveland Girl Scouts also came out for Loveland’s special night as they entertained crowds of friends and families with Christmas carols!

As the night grew dark and the Christmas lights shined bright, at around 7 PM Mayor Kathy Bailey lit the gigantic magical Loveland Christmas Tree, and shortly after Rozzi Fireworks put on a “merry” night-ending firework show.

I decided to bring some of my family along with me to the Christmas Tree Lighting celebration, including my 2 furbabies, Dean and Nala. Wow were we impressed with how flawless the night came together for the City of Loveland and the community! The endless amount of lights, Christmas decor, holiday activities, Christmas treats, and gift ideas from some very talented local vendors made the night that much more special.

The Loveland Christmas Tree was quite the spectacle once it was completely illuminated! Throughout the night I couldn’t help but revisit the Tree over and over again. As I stared up at the lights, and glistening candy canes I realized that Loveland truly had succeeded in becoming a Christmas Winter Wonderland!

After walking through Browns Crossing bike trail light spectacle I decided to grab some homemade Christmas gifts from J Timmerman Pottery and Silverware to Wearable Art! Shortly after I of course had to visit Trailside Provisions to get my weekly popcorn fix. This time I chose a caramel popcorn drizzled in dark chocolate and I am not ashamed to say I ate the entire bag in just 2 days! Next, I decided to stop by Old School Pix’s holiday vintage photoshoot where they snapped photos of myself, Adam, and the Dancing Elves in a vintage truck all decked out in Christmas decor. After wandering around Loveland’s Winter Wonderland, the night ended perfectly with a firework show put on by Rozzi’s Fireworks!

Cassie the Food Guru Visits Dolph’s Dogs!

    by Cassie Mattia

Loveland, Ohio – What do the holidays mean to you? Being from a very Italian family, during the holidays I’m always surrounded by family, friends, and a delicious yet large amount of homemade food! This is why I thought now would be the perfect time to go on my next Food Guru excursion, only this time I decided to hit up Dolph’s Dogs, a traditional yet elevated local Hot Dog Cart.

Dolph Himmelbauer moved to Downtown Loveland 5 years ago and has become a huge part of the community that he says, “Is the best, most welcoming place he’s ever lived in.” After being in the business world for several years, Himmelbauer made the decision after the Covid-19 pandemic hit to start his own business. Although he was a little unsure at first about what business he wanted to go into he knew he wanted to do something that Loveland had a need for.

At the beginning of 2021, Dolph’s Dogs came into conception! Himmelbauer came up with the idea after hanging out in Downtown Loveland late one night and realized that there weren’t any readily available food options. Himmelbauer already had a love for hot dogs so he thought why not start a hot dog business only let’s not serve them in a restaurant, but on a mobile cart! Flash forward a few months and Himmelbauer had secured a mobile cart, a few great serving spots in the Downtown Loveland area, and an absolutely delicious product.

Now, Himmelbauer is not only consistently serving his elevated hot dogs around town and selling out most weekend nights, but he is also being booked for parties and events, one of the events being Loveland’s first-ever Oktoberfest! According to Himmelbauer all the success with Dolph’s Dogs has been an absolute whirlwind and he couldn’t be more grateful for the support from his family, friends, and the community of Loveland!

Without further ado I Cassie the Food Guru brings to you an exclusive one-on-one Loveland Magazine TV interview with Dolph Himmelbauer, owner of Dolph’s Dogs! There’s no way you won’t want one of these delicious dogs after watching this!

For more stories and interviews on Loveland’s food culture stay tuned to Cassie the Food Guru!

To enter into Loveland’s Pet of the Month contest you must email me, Cassie Mattia, at cmattia12@gmail.com 2-5 of your favorite photos of your pet along with a short bio about your pet. Share with us and the community why your pet is so special to you along with any other unique facts that set your little buddy apart from other pets! When sending in your pet photos and bios please include your pet’s name, age, and breed as well as your contact info with a short description of each photo you provide us with. If you want to share where your pet’s favorite spots are in Loveland that would be great as well! Remember we DO NOT discriminate against any pets; all pets are welcome to enter into the contest!

Join us in celebrating Buddy for the month of December!

We can’t wait to see whose pet will be featured in January!

Here at Loveland Magazine, we would like to send a personal shout-out to The Works Pizza and Nothing Bundt Cakes Mason (nearby in Deerfield Township) for providing wonderful gifts to our winners!

Cassie’s friend Jennifer D’Alberto Kavensky had pre-recorded a video introduction of her that was projected onto a big screen.

Loveland, Ohio – “Words cannot describe how unbelievable the 2021 Little Miami River Chamber Alliance Awards were on Wednesday,” said Loveland Magazine Co-Owner Cassie Mattia. “The atmosphere, the music, the people, the decor, the food, and of course the awards ceremony was the icing on the cake for one of the best years of my life.”

The occasion was the 2021 Annual Awards Dinner, a gala put on by the Little Miami River Chamber Alliance. It is an evening for area businesses to come together and celebrate their successes and community contributions. The celebration was at the Oasis Conference Center.

Cassie was selected as the 2021 Young Professional of the Year.

Proceeds from a silent auction benefited Grant Us Hope, an organization dedicated to youth suicide prevention, and a Chamber Scholarship fund. Emily Barlow with Loveland Lifestyle Magazine was the Emcee.

I could not be more proud to call Cassie my business partner. I’m so very happy that she was recognized for her achievements and as a community leader. She is the Co-owner, Associate Editor, and Director of Marketing for Loveland Magazine.

Cassie said the next day, “Thank you to all those that spent time out of their day to send in nominations and testimonials on my behalf for this award, you have no idea how much it means to me and how eternally grateful I am. I am so excited to see where this unbelievable path takes me and I promise to all those surrounding me including all of you in Loveland I will continue to make this community the absolute best place to live and visit.”

Cassie walked into my life 3-1/2 years ago by knocking on the door and announcing she wanted to write for Loveland Magazine. It was unbelievable fun Wednesday night celebrating with her.

There is more to the story. What she brought with her in that oversized purse she carries was dedication, hard work, kindness that I see every single day, and a devotion to her family and to her boyfriend Adam. She’s the big sister that everyone should have.

Cassie and her boyfriend Adam Ploof

In that bag is forgiveness, is a photographic memory, what just must be an off-the-scale high IQ, writing skills, and her journalism background with degrees she worked so hard to achieve. However, her bag is always 90% packed with positivity, sometimes to overflow.

She recently joked that I was so old that when I ran road races they were on dirt roads. Well… Cassie is so young-of-heart, that she runs each day on sunshine younger than today’s sunrise. A rare personality that anyone older than today, and most people her age, should be so lucky to have.

Thank you so much Cassie for agreeing to be a co-owner of Loveland Magazine. It was such a fun, fun night celebrating with you and Adam.

When we walked under the Oasis portico, before we went in – I pointed in both directions with a sweeping motion and joked “Look Cassie… they reserved this whole country club just for you tonight! Hmm, where’s the red carpet I ordered?”

Adam parked the car and caught up with us and, well, I just went in pretending the three of us were walking on the red carpet and I saw the evening transform into the “Gala” it was billed to be.

And, no one could’ve wiped off the grin I carried the rest of the evening being with my friend and partner, the Loveland Area’s “Young Professional of the Year”.
